Muscle memory from repetition. Etudes no 1-9 from S. Lee op. 31 and position exercises did the work, so I can now see/feel positions/notes both in my head and hand.

I admire your determination. I am 24 years old and I am trying to learn the violin on my own. Honestly, I wanted to do this kind of work that you did. If you don't mind me asking, I was wondering how long do you practice per day?

Uh, violin is quite a challenge! Very best luck and enjoyment with your journey. I usually get 2-3 hours a day (with maybe 2-3 days off a month) and a weekly lesson. Its really is a habit now.
