Work is both a gift and a duty. Today, we explore how labor can impact man’s dignity and unite us to Jesus, the carpenter. Fr. Mike emphasizes that work should not be ordered towards economic gain, but rather, it should be ordered toward man’s dignity and the human community. Today’s readings are Catechism paragraphs 2426-2436.

Greetings! CIY community!! Here are some statements worth pondering. To carry the cross in all the work you do. Work is for man and not man for work. A just wage is the legitimate fruit of work and to refuse it would be a grave injustice. Every human being's work has dignity and value. With human work a sense of accomplishment and a sense meaning comes along. Use your God given talent to contribute to the world around you. Business owners should always consider the good of the person and not to increase the profit only. Finally, will pray for our founder of the Ascension press enterprise Mr. Matt Pinto and to Fr Mike Schmitz and all of us in the CIY community.

Whenever we work, we are honoring God's gifts and talents that he has given us and also the fact that we are alive. Even if we are not working right now, we still have dignity and worth. If we have a sense of accomplishment and meaning while doing any work, although without a paycheck, we still contribute to the world around us. If we are ill and suffering in a hospital or at home, we could offer up that pain and suffering to Jesus, uniting it with his suffering on the Cross, for the sanctification of the 🌎 world.

I crossed the Tiber to join the holy, traditional practice of worshipping Our Lord, not to have to constantly worry about our Church being faithful to herself. I am beyond dismayed by the dismissal of Bishop Strictland, especially when the German Bishops have free rein to say whatever they want. Many of you may disagree with me and write scolding comments to me, and that is fine, but I need to be able to voice my distress somewhere. My heart weeps for the Church. I join in your sorrow for the state of our beloved Catholic church. It seems that the good priest are being canceled, when those that preach false doctrine are allowed to continue and even raised up on the clerical latter. I am fortunate to live in a little conservative community. We usually get the retired priest who are conservative. Our N.O. mass is reverent so far. The first sign of the preaching of false doctrine, the wrong words for the consecration etc. become apparent, I am out of there. Did you know the Northern Lights have been seen all over in places that they are never normally seen. People are wondering if this is the light in the sky before another chastisement. My son and I went to the vigil mass early and went to confession just in case. I pray & fast and await Divine Intervention. 🙏🕊

Dear one in Christ, be at peace. Do not fear or worry. The Church is guided by her Head, Christ & He will keep her pure & undefiled. Even if he were so inclined the Pope can not change the deposit of faith or the dogmatic teaching of the Church. As a fellow convert I understand your pain & confusion. Remember the promise Jesus gave to Peter & His Church. The gates of Hell will not prevail. That doesn’t mean we won’t have trouble nor does it mean that the Church won’t look shaky. Our duty is to pray. Pray for the Church, the Pope, the bishops & priests, & all the laity. We don’t know the whole story with Bp. Strickland & need to step back & not rush to any judgement. I know for a fact Bp. Strickland has said some very troubling & unCatholic things publicly. He challenged the Pope & called him a heretic with a plan to undermine the Church. This is absolutely forbidden. The only one on earth who can judge a Pope is a subsequent sitting Pope. A bishop is to be subject to the Pope, not defy him. That’s what Bp. Strickland has done several times. He’s actually brought this on himself. Do you ever listen to the channel Reason & Theology? Michael Lofton does an excellent job staying on top of what’s happening & goes to primary sources to explain. Not just explaining, but actually have the source on screen so you can read along with him. I really recommend listening to his channel to get a true look at our current situation. @@TrixRN The bible says if one is in error confront them 1. privately, 2. take three good people with you to confront, 3. take those in authority in the church(five cardinals dubia and confront the error. If that doesn't work shake the dust off your feet and flee from that corrupt person. Part of the Catholic church in Germany is already in Schism. One needs too do a lot of reading and searching. Relying on one podcast is not a good idea, just like relying on the main stream news media will not give you the true picture. In this day thorough research is necessary to obtain what is really going on in our world and in our church. Paul confronted Peter the first pope.

People who go to the TLM are confused, angry, and heartbroken that they are being denied the traditional Mass that surely causes no harm. @TrixRN It is comforting to be reminded that our Church will never fall. And I understand academically that a Bishop cannot publicly oppose a Pope. However, sometimes truth comes through rebellion by those who feel so deeply that God is leading them to speak up. I'm sure it has been sad for the Bishop to have to be a voice crying from the wilderness and not able to stop. His faith is great. I will check out Reason and Theology. Thank you

My late husband at one time was unemployed. He kept looking for work, but his age was against him. Men are also raised to be the provider for the family; their job is their identity. I began to ask people, "What's keeping you busy?" not "What do you do?". I now receive social security, and in a previous discussion in this community, I learned to be the steward of my home and the Keeper of my family history. I also pray for those who have no paycheck due to technology (AI) or disaster (fire, flood, earthquake, hurricane, tornado, etc).

My apologies Father Mike for speaking off of today’s topic but I am deeply perplexed by the comments coming from our Holy Father Pope Francis. I have attended every session of your fantastic catechism in a year podcast and have grown exponentially in my faith. That includes the recent episodes covering the 6th Commandment and it’s teachings on sexual practices espoused by the Catechism. That said, how do the sexual practices in a homosexual relationship in any way adhere to what the Catholic Catechism teaches concerning marriage and heterosexual monogamous relationships and the end result of such marriages to foster childbearing and rearing? I am struggling with Pope Francis’ recent approving nods to the homosexual community and the practices of the Catholic faith. Very troubling. Perhaps you could add some clarification on this matter. Love what your Catechism in a year has done for my faith. Though far from a saint, I am still aspiring to be a better Catholic every day. Peace and blessings all.

November 12, 2023 Please, I am looking for people to take a moment and pray with me for Souls in Purgatory. Can you help? According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory: Eternal Father, I offer You the most precious blood of thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, for those in my own home, and in my family. Amen. In her account of another vision, St. Faustina describes Purgatory as a "great crowd of suffering souls" undergoing purification. Further, she says that the souls are "praying fervently, but to no avail, for themselves; only we can come to their aid" (Diary, 20)

This section of the Catechism has been by far, for me at least, the most difficult to hear. Perhaps in an utopian world…. Where is the justice in this country? Where is social justice? Where are fair wages for families who can’t even afford a home or a loaf of bread? I stayed home for 27 years, had five beautiful children, worked hard volunteering and at home ….Now I get a slap in the face SS check every month in my “retirement”….There is no justice in this life.

The bottom line is above all else. Without profit, a business fails. I will give ya'll some help to refute that... The triple bottom line is in addition to just the bottom line (profit). It uses an ESG scorecard to measure Social, Environmental, and Economic well being. Some businesses practice that.

Father, we need guidance right now. I don’t understand why Bishop Strictland has been fired. From my perspective, he was fired for doing the job he was selected to do. What has he done wrong? What is this Pope doing to The Church? The priests and Bishops of the US cannot stand passively by and say nothing. We all must take a position on this issue. This is dividing the church. We the laity need to speak up as we cannot be canceled. I have already signed a petition that is being sent to Rome against this action, not that it will do any good. Our priest are in a dangerous position. Do they speak up and then are canceled and are not there to serve and guide the community. This Jesuit pope speaks ambiguously which spreads doubt and confusion. Some people take what the pope says one way and others take it in a totally different direction. AMBIGUOUS SPEAKING IN A LEADER IS DANGEROUS. Five holy cardinals spoke up and the pope did not even have the kindness to answer them in a straight forward manner. They were criticized and shot down. Pray, fast, and get ready for chastisement. 🙏

@tommaxwell The last thing Fr Mike should do is speak out on "this injustice." Regardless of the merits of the case, the last thing Fr Mike should do is involve himself in Church "politics." One of the reasons I come here is to get away from such. I have seen Taylor Marshal and Fr Altman go way beyond what is right and proper and indeed Catholic in their criticism of the Pope, and Bishop Strickland seems to have followed the same extremist path. A very dangerous one. They have jumped the shark, and are leading many astray.
