So this is going to sound weird, but googling Mt. Laguna, one of the predominant species of trees is the Jeffrey Pine. Smell the bark--it has a noticeable butterscotch aroma.

It’s fun to hear your contrast from what you experienced on the AT for views compared to the PCT so far. It’s night and day different! When you hit the Sierras it’s even more spectacular!! That’s so kool your getting to experience both trails!

I do a lot of hiking in the Sierra, and many times I've said thesame thing that you said in this video, "this video (or photo) doesn't do it justice." Hopefully, the Sierra won't be trying to kill you when you get there (hopefully the rivers won't be too high), so you can fully appreciate the wide open views and crystal clear water.

Fortunately for 2022 PCT Thru-hikers (but unfortunately for CA) there didn't end up being much snow this year, so high water levels may not be an issue.

Those views look absolutely beautiful and I can only imagine how much better they are in person! I wonder if you can try to redistribute the down into that baffle with so little? Maybe things got shifted around in the wash? But I can't wait to keep following your journey! Speedy recovery to get back on trail soon!

Hey Kelly! Weird situation with the sleeping bag for sure. Bad baffle maybe? Definitely an epic section of trail. Those pines are so majestic, as are those views. Could do without the high winds, but we all know Mother Nature always has to make things interesting! Good on you for trimming down already, I’m excited to see what those things are. I’m sure you have seen Dixie’s video on her new nutritional plan, I guess she likes the Wild Zora too! You will see many pine cones like that, sap and all out there. Pretty cool IMHO. Great day and great video! Well except for the lack of quacks… 🙏 Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow’s miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well. -Grateful

There's a water tower or I guess you could just call it a tank on top of Laguna. Years ago me and a buddy went on top of that tower to watch the Perseids meteor shower. The meteors were fantastic with big sparkly tails. But it was scary because there was a Santa anta wind coming across the mountain at about 60 miles an hour and we were worried about being blown off the top of that tank. That night was one adventure I will not forget.

On a clear day, you can see all the way to the Salton Sea. That's the *real* desert down there, not the chaparral habitat you're walking in now. - Dixie *just* released a video about her new backpacking diet and most of the meals were from Wild Zora.

Thanks for the great vlog. Funny I'm from the high desert of Co. I much rather have the dry heat. I've lived in about five southern states as I am right now. I will never get used to this horrible humidity I hate it. So I guess it's just what you grow up with and use to.🥰 P.s.. Is that your boyfriend or just a friend? I don't remember him being on the AT trail as part of your tramly🌞

... Good to see you're doing well .... Curious to see what you are sending back ,, don't see any luxury unneeded items listed ... .... Give EE a call on the Quilt ,maybe they will replace it ,, or at least a good swap discount ...you have lots of followers that buy by your gear list ,, it would be money in the bank for them to show quality customer service and warranty ..... ... .Have tried most of the Wild Zora products over past two years ,, it's different than most are used to but I agree a great brand to include in the trail box ,, the meat bars and soups make a nice quick meal while sitting out a storm or a needed break ,, some of the central and west coast storms can only last 30 min. or less ... ....Stay Safe and God Bless .....

People hike SOBO every year, but they can't start the trail until June or July depending on the snow level. They reach the desert some time in November, so the temperatures have cooled quite a bit by that time. A couple of guys did the first winter SOBO in 2014-2015 and lucked out with a very low snow year app along the PCT. For comparison, this year we got over 6 feet of snow in the past two weeks in the northern Oregon and Washington Cascade mountain range, with a 176-inch base at 6,000 feet elevation.

You will freak out at the beauty of the mountains all the way to Canada. Learn about snow melt/ freeze cycle. It will help you make the best decision as to what time of the day you should be travelling when in snowy areas.sinking to your hips in rotten snow is very tiring and dangerous. Same as being on an exposed traverse on very icy snow.Isothermic snow/ rotten snow is when the temperature is above freezing. The snow crystals lose their cohesiveness and is like a slurped. On any angled slope above 25 degree it can slide. Being so wet those slide are very destructive. You will see remnant of such avalanche in the Sierra. Don’t be afraid. Be smart. on a clear night the slurped snow will get hard again, making it super icy until the temperature gets above freezing. for sketchy steep exposed traverse, you want to avoid the super icy time of day. And most important, know when to stay put or even turn around, wait for the conditions to improve then move on. I spent 5 days on a glacier not moving because of rotten snow. Eventually the snow pack got safe again, and made it home safely. Have fun you two.

Hello Kelly on the at you had markers on trees to let you know the way.how do you know your way on the pct.
@memathews
@memathews 2 жыл бұрын
We place signs at most road and trail intersections and then a confirmation marker maybe another 50 get down the trail. But the PCT is a Wilderness trail for much of its length, especially outside the desert, so markers can be miles apart with no trails or roads in between.
