I've noticed that your opening theory and post game analysis are both lacking. Opening theory will help with time management too since you will be able to play moves almost automatically and end up in familiar positions where you know the middle game strategy. Your post game analysis is done too quickly and half-heartedly. You need to spend more time looking at where you went wrong (and WHY you went wrong) instead of just stating the engine moves. If I were analysing this game thoroughly I would spend at least 20-30 minutes since it was positionally and tactically rich. This isn't to say that you should neglect tactics and endgames, but I've noticed that these two areas in particular are really problematic for you.

You got to 1500 from 1200 super fast. That’s something to be proud of. I don’t think you are playing that much worse tbh, you are facing better opponents. Just keep going pat. Take one thing from each game and remember it.

Lol - so much smug advice and criticism in these comments. Let him do whatever he wants if he's enjoying it. Stop watching if you want to see someone study theory for 40 hours each week before playing. It doesn't matter, it's a silly little game.

The problem at move 6 is not "opening theory knowledge," as with white's 4th move you're outside of anything that could be called theory. The problem is you banging out moves without bothering to calculate.

I was 1500 once (2100 now), so I get what you are going through. Keep playing and you will get there one day. It will take years to go from 1500 to 2000, but if you love the game it’ll be worth it.

You can't compare the number of mistakes/blunders/inaccuracies you make between games. In this game you were disappointed by your accuracy rating. However, games that are static with many trades on average lead to higher accuracy games than games like this that have dynamic positions. Based on this, you might've played better (based on your skill level) in this game with a 63% accuracy compared to a static game where you may have scored say 80%.

Agreed. Sometimes Patrick is happy with his 80percent accuracy but is losing from move seven. It is meaningless.

Take my advice for what it's worth, since I am lower rated than you, but I think you need to change your mindset to thinking more positionally instead of tactically. You are spending a lot of time calculating things that don't come to fruition just because your opponent had another move that you didn't consider, and you end up stuck in bad positions because you're basically playing hope chess a lot of the time. In this case, the most egregious error was simply not castling during numerous opportunities to do so, which is something you are guilty of often. I recommend watching John Bartholomew's chess fundamentals and climbing the rating ladder videos. They do a good job of teaching logical, positional chess, still making use of tactics when they arise. I think it would help you out a lot to see how masters think - it's very different from how you are thinking during your games.

First of all -- I enjoy your videos and admire your composure when getting beat. I could never do that since I get really agitated aggravated insultuated when I lose in chess or pretty much anything! That said I try to avoid confrontation competition let's get it on because I'm too old to be a fool! Seriously you look borderline disinterested and just going through the motion but NOT intense and fired UP inside to crush these douches you're playing! I'm here to tell you they are inferior to you and you need to get ANGRY and play with some intimidation in your game! Forget the takes-takes-takes crap and just count attackers / defenders and kick some ass! Keep the opening simple and prepare to unleash the thugs on your side when you detect an advantage -- and that means as soon as you have a shot at the initiative -- take it and don't look back! Channel your inner PITBULL and stop playing like shit zoo whatever FeeFee etc. Go get'em!

you are trying to follow review and work out too many blunders at the end probably forgetting it all... need to pick 1 crucial mistake > and improve on that one thing. Biggest issue is you avoiding castling for like 18 moves then when Nd6 comes with a check, instead of going left to F8 square later activating the rook with h5 pawn push you are moving to the middle, d8 square... Qc7 you spent 70% of your remaining time? Anyway try to not fall behind on clock compared to opponent unless position is really complicated playing 1min vs 4.5 , went horibble for you after then. also if really wanna improve, just playing and repeating the same blunders every game won't really help gotta do some puzzels, work a bit more on openings and pace of playing don't fall behind on time, its not worth spending 5min on the BEST MOVE when you have 2-3 moves which are similar , but you are able to play them in 20 seconds. at the 1400ello, even the 10th line of the engine is enough to win and improve yet you are there, trying to figure out best line for some reason if you lack training hours, don't even spend time on analyzing the game so much maximum 2 minutes, checking 2-3 crucial points on the evaluation graph

Remember 1500 is a great rating, I can’t get past 1200 with my consistency. I watch these 1500 games and wonder what the difference even is, I dare say you feel the same looking at 1800 games wondering what it is you are doing different. I think it’s just consistent good moves which is much easier said than done

Not much difference between 1500 and 1800 imo. 1800s just make slightly less mistakes/blunders, opening and endgame knowledge is a bit better and better understanding of the ideas of positions they get into

@@abgddfdhhdsddtj nice but just because you can win against a certain Elo sometimes doesn't mean that you are at that skill level but if you actually win 70% against them then it would show in your rating. Focus more on what causes your losses and what your weaknesses are and you'll improve

I was pretty sure, that you will loose this, too much tactics with to little time. You both didnt play very well, but your opponent was a little bit better in the tactics. I am sure i saw a game of you in the past where you played the same move order with qb2 and than the blunder qb4. You are able to play on a good 1500 Level, but i cant See you reaching much more. Chess on a high Level is a very complecated game and needs much more practice than you can invest and you are not genius to do it without that. Not everybody is able to reach top play, but its ok to enjoy the game without reaching 2000 or even more. I am not saying this to criticise or frustrate you, but i watched your games from the beginning and i want to give you an Statement of a 2250 Player in this game. I was better when i was younger, i invested lot of time, but i found out for myself , thats that is my limit and thats ok. So i wish you luck, to find your limit.Ps even its not perfect, i enjoy your games.

You didn’t specifically ask for suggestions, but I'll offer mine anyway. I would urge you to take a break -- NOT from chess, but from the routine of a recorded game every day. (Yes, that would mean changing the tagline of your YT channel!) Instead, you would alternate game days with study days (perhaps focusing on opening theory, tactical pattern recognition, and/or 3-ply calculation drills), and you would record and post the study days as well. Sharing your training days would help cement what you learn, while it would allow your many ChessWithPatrick fans to learn along with you. (I expect that you would be an excellent teacher, because you're a great communicator.) I say, give it a try for a couple of weeks -- what do you have to lose?

Ah Patrick Patrick .. same errors .. so when he moves the knight to c5 you Just decide it’s attacking your white square bishop and calculate away and you don’t look at the fact it’s also attacking your b7 pawn, again look at your opponents move and see everything it does rather than the first thing pops in your head AND You get yr king stuck out of its castle .. how many times CASTLE YOUR KING AND If your under a minute you can’t spend 20 seconds on a move

The simplest advice I'd give is something I'm improving on lately with good results. Every move, what is my opponent trying to do? Assess all your pieces and see what's attacked and what's threatened. Many times the best move is the simplest one that solves your problems. Use this thought process while doing tactics puzzles and longer games. The more you flex that muscle, the more it will become automatic.

It’s gonna be hard to improve past 1500 without playing more than 1 game/day. A lot of the skill that you need to improve comes from playing more and seeing many more positions

I got to 1800 in six months frm having 0 knowledge of chess, except the basic rules like castling. Its not that hard, you dont need any theory to get those levels. Its when you reach 2000 and + that you can get annihilated by someone with superior opening knowledge
