John Barrowman is infamous for pulling his pants down at a moment's notice. He admitted in Doctor Who Magazine he had flashed all of the cast of the series 4 finale at some point, aside from Sarah Jane since he didn't feel it was right to expose himself to a childhood hero. That's what that joke in the song was about.

Aw, I'm glad you enjoyed that! And it was fun to see it and remember. Some info on it! This was, as you said, for the wrap-party, and it was never actually meant to be published online or made official - hence some of the references and inside jokes not always making sense or being a bit tongue in cheek, and maybe not appropriate for a wider audience. And yes, all three of them have had some experience with musical theatre. John Barrowman has done musicals as well as released albums, and David Tennant and Catherine Tate were the main characters in the musical version of Much Ado About Nothing, and sang a bunch in that. The way they're all three such great friends, I love that. The song itself is a parody of an older comedic song, which would be more obvious to a British audience (so not me, I found out quite recently).

@sallyatticum6 жыл бұрын
Not sure if this is the fire that they were talking about... but... I looked up the fire in Italy..It was at the Cinecitta Studios in Rome. . In his book, RTD jokes about it, wondering if Phil had dropped his cigarette when he went out for a smoke. He was hoping someone had gotten footage of the fire that they could use in the show.

@ms_scribbles6 жыл бұрын
If you ever are curious about some of the more obscure references to behind the scenes moments in this, and are in the mood for a book, I'd highly suggest you pick up "The Writer's Tale", which is a book of compiled emails back and forth between RTD and Benjamin Cook, who was a writer for Doctor Who magazine at the time. The original edition of the book only went from when Russell started writing Series 4 (about when S3 was just released) to the end of Series 4. I'd suggest getting the second edition, which goes on to encompass his writing and filming of the Specials. It's a really fascinating look into the mind of a script writer. And, it really does show how Julie was the hero of the RTD era.
@Bobzilla4566 жыл бұрын
Yes. This! It was amazing how chaotic the production was (and still must be!). And I am quite convinced that half of the production problems in the Moffat era were because nobody could adequately replace Julie Gardner. The steadiness of the RTD years was entirely down to her. I think both Russell and Moffat were quite similar in how they ran the show, both were quite late at finishing scripts, but Moffat didn't always have the right execs to be on hand to help. The production around the 50th seemed to be quite bad. The other exec producer left the series in quite a rush, (I think Moffat tried to push her into the crack in time). It did seem to steady down after that though.

@michaeldeery90146 жыл бұрын
A lot of this was based around Russell T. Davies and Benjermain Cook's book, The Writers Tale. It's a correspondence between the two during the writing of Season 4 (the paperback version includes the Specials.) It's clear from the book that RTD has a love/hate relationship with writing. He puts extreme pressure on himself and is a bag of nerves while writing. That's why he's constantly saying be ca t do it because that's how he genuinely feels when writing. The jokes about Skins and Russell Tovey also come from the book
@eirei07896 жыл бұрын
Yes! Yes! I'm so happy you saw this, and even reacted to it. You did not comment on it, but I do hope you got the gist of the song; a comedic re-enactment of the Russel T Davies and Julie Gardner era of Doctor Who, up to the end of series 4. This song and play is indeed one of the best love letters/thank you's ever made by a show's cast to their writer and producer.

A version of the late great Victoria Wood's the Ballad Barry and Freda look for it on You Tube Wood was a comedienne actress and writer who produced some of the most highly acclaimed British comedy shows ever . She used to finish her live stand up shows with this song. The original is wonderful if like all Woods stuff some of the references may not be familiar to American audiences. I don't doubt that Catherine Tate in particular would have idolised her without Wood female comic actors like Tate would have probably found it much harder to get on TV

John Barrowman is a triple threat and great entertainer! If you ever get a chance to go to a convention where he has a panel, DO NOT pass up that opportunity. He really gives fans their money's worth; so engaged and funny and full of anecdotes, sometimes cross-dressing, periodic "kilt checks" for those willing to be inspected by the scotsman. It goes into overdrive if Eve Myles (from Torchwood) is on the panel. Those two together is like an R-rated Will and Grace episode.
@DravenGal4 жыл бұрын
"He can sing!" Uhhh, yeah, LOL! John's a major stage performer (sometimes even in drag, looking better than most women!) and has his start in "Anything Goes"...I remember because my sister played the character of "Bonnie" in that musical when I was a child (and apparently I used to dance in the aisles, as I was only a toddler and amused the cast to the point where'd they'd have to stop acting from laughing so hard. Oddly, my dancing still has that effect!) Here's him singing that theme song in Torchwood! ckzbin.info/www/bejne/nV6Wi3xobZV4l6c But yeah, look him up **BARROWMAN** (shakes fist) is every inch a performer And I have a theory that he is actually Adam Lambert's father, somehow, some drunken party or something, because not only do they look alike, their personalities and flair are extremely similar too! But John has quite the biography! www.johnbarrowman.com/biography.shtml
