In one previous video, you told me that its not the job of a devops engineer to write dockerfiles but he needs to understand the syntax and the way its written. Is this the same case here as well with yaml files? Do we have to know all the binaries and be capable of writing it or just understand how its done?

No, YAML files are mostly maintained by a DevOps/Cloud engineer. You should know it end to end. And dockerfile as well, dont think it will be a developer's responsibility so just understanding is enough.

Pod is the smallest deployable unit. Your applications will always be running as a pod in the background but it will be controlled by other objects such as deployment, statefulsets, daemonset,job, replicaset and so on. You will understand this and later videos of this series
