When placing the thread on the face of the cylinder it is important to click on the upper half of the cylinder face, this ensures your offset will be at the bottom, if you click on the lower half of the cylinder your offset will appear at the top. This positioning subtly was quite confusing at first.

Man, I tried learning CAD years ago and it went waaaaay above my head. Now that I'm back in school and have access to Autodesk software for free, I've been itching to give it another go. Fusion 360 and your tutorials are just what I needed. I've been modeling things in 15 minutes that I'd have never figured out on my own, and I'm hungry to learn more. Hopefully I'll have the skills to pursue my dream of getting into combat robotics by sometime next year! Thanks a ton, man. And keep your videos coming!

I have survived to day 9. I have no modeling experience nor any education in engineering. I am a woodworker and people told me fusion 360 was a good program to learn to use. In addition to using it to plan projects, I figured I would also learn to use the software in case I ever buy a 3d printer. This course is great. After doing 8 of these lessons I am finding it easier to move around naturally and access the different features without taking ages to locate them. Thank you!! This course is worth its weight in gold.

For those having trouble snapping the sphere to the line endpoint at 2:55: 1. Double click on sketch in the timeline so that you enter sketch mode 2. WITHOUT clicking "finish sketch", in the toolbar click on "solid" and select "sphere" in the create dropdown 3. Now you're able to snap the sphere to the endpoint

It is important to know. that these threads wont work because they do not break through the chamfer. If you want to model a usable thread you need to create the chamfer first. Then you go one step back in the timeline to "hide" the chamfer. Now you create your thread and finally you let the chamfer appear again by going forward in the timeline. Now the chamfer has a "cut" from the thread. It worked with the normal ISO metric thread for me, but somehow not with every other... I hope that was helpful!

Again, here the thread is not fully formed/open because of the reduced length where only the chamfer is applied. It still looks ok 🙂 And of course this does not change how valuable your lessons are to learn Fusion360!

HI Denton. The Masterclass and some of the other courses on my site go into more depth on majority of the topics. Particularly, core concepts, etc. It's a bit more structured and ramps up slowly (but gets progressively more challenging with each additional project/chapter of the courese) - academy.productdesignonline.com/bundles/pdo-academy On KZbin I have to cut a lot of 'the fat' to appease the algorithms :)

A great way to practice that is to rebuild some 'old' files from scratch, thinking about how the order of your parametric timeline could be improved upon :)

My bottom cylinder is upside down. How can I be able to make a fillet at the thread if its upside down.

I had the same problem - it depends on where you click the cyclinder. Remove the thread - recreate but select the cylinder at the top

Hi I am at the part where I add the thread, as soon as I uncheck the "Full Length" option my thread as two up arrows, yours has two down arrows?

I just read, When placing the thread on the face of the cylinder it is important to click on the upper half of the cylinder face, this ensures your offset will be at the bottom, if you click on the lower half of the cylinder your offset will appear at the top. This positioning subtly was quite confusing at first. This was not mentioned in the video. I just tried it it works nicely.

4:55 no matter what I do I'm unable to make the cylinder for the threaded part. everything I'm doing matches the steps exactly, but the diameter is in red and I'm not able to click ok.
@ProductDesignOnline
@ProductDesignOnline 2 ай бұрын
The 'red' sounds like the Extrude command defaulted to a 'cut' operation. Double-check that the operation in the Extrude dialog is set to "New Body". Let me know if that works! :)

@cassiakuhn8740 2 ай бұрын
@@ProductDesignOnline thanks for the quick reply! I definitely confirmed that it was set to New Body. I eventually just tried sketching a circle and extruding it and that worked. The first and the final cylinder made in the video had no issues, so I'm not sure why I wasn't able to do it with the middle one! At some point I'll try again with a fresh file.
