I used a drive a JD with 21 foot header and even that if you caught the ends was easy to do lots of damage as there is so much leverage and all that horse power going forward.

Only pride and a header injured Olly, no one in the air ambulance. Stuff gets broken on farms, I once watched one of our combines reverse into a stone water tower mid-field. Crunched the whole back up to the straw walkers. Improved the John Deeres looks no end!

Thats a pain Olly, least it happened now and not mid harvest. Hope your insurance is up to date. Looks like a major job, as it needs to be perfect as the conveyor belts need to run true. Hopefully Claas can get you a header for harvest 23, or try a Macdon. One working round here on an Axial Flow does an amazing job.

Ouch ! Just a thought for next time, could you not get like a plastic corner flag pole like the ones the football clubs use, to mark the manholes. They flex over when hit so the sprayer would push them out of the way but you'd see them with the combine ?

Is possible to map obstacles like the man hole cover on GPS and have them show up on the combine/tractor map screen? Maybe with an audible alarm as you approach it?

Full credit for such a frank video. Damaging new equipment makes me sick to the stomach but as you say, its just one of the many farming risks. The main thing is no-one is injured and it will either fix or be replaced by insurance. I never scrimp on insurance for his very reason. I can genuinely feel for you.

99% Insurance write off at a guess, once had to repair a NH Header under warranty with new end panel from the production line as it'd been made wrong & as you can't purchase an end panel, It had to come off the production line. Major operation getting everything lined up as it should be. That was touch & go a write off. It doesn't have to be out much to eat belts, bearings & chains. Hopefully your dealer has a used one sat in yard for you to borrow for the summer crop you drilled.

Has it done any damage to the header carrier on the combine? This is big damage and a lot to put right. Im thinking that even repaired that it will never be quite the same again. Bad day all round !! That’s really poor luck Olly. I’d dropped a passenger off at Plymouth hospital a couple of weeks ago. Could’ve left one of two ways. Went one way, sat behind a lorry at a read light, on an incline and he rolled 4 feet back into me. Bent the front of me cab out of alignment. Keep telling myself I should’ve gone the other way but it’s done so what’s the point. Just have to fix it now. I’m sure your team will get it all straightened out

I can understand how you must feel at the moment, I’d be gutted. Accidents do happen and as they say nobody died. Maybe the insurance will write it off, as I think it will be very difficult to straighten with the metal stretched etc. and then allow the knife to operate as it should. If anyone can fix it you guys can.
