In 1966, my grandfather stood with his arms folded, watching the old black & white TV news, I dont remember who was on, and said "You tell me what happened and I`ll add the tears and laughter! " Little did I know how prophetic he was! We could use Howard K Smith today!

I appreciate his wisdom, knowledge, and humor. And his story of the love affair with his wife us priceless.

I read up on Howard's son, who was wounded in Vietnam. He saw 20 of his fellow soldiers die around him within seconds, and only escaped by pretending to be dead. They then used his body as a make-shift sandbag for their machine gun nest. It's a miracle he came out of that alive! He dearly loved his wife, and they were married over 60 years. They fell in love in Berlin....while reporting from there, just before the war. He escaped on the last train out of Berlin. What a story this man was....a true American legend! God bless him and his family!!!

Burdens are NOT shared equally. Poor Howard. He lost his way somewhere. Or is it his age?

He never did say burdens ARE being shared equally; rather they SHOULD BE.
