My parents sang this as a duet in English and French, Dad on the accordion and Mom on the guitar. Dad wrote the lyrics in French. I often think of this hymn and think of them, now departed unto the Lord. The lyrics call us to seek the Lord day by day, with each passing moment. Nothing misses His gaze or His concern. We can and ought to cast our concerns, our heart aches, our cares and our sorrows upon Him for as 1 Peter 5 says, "6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your cares on him, because he cares about you. 8 Be sober-minded, be alert. Your adversary the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour. 9 Resist him, firm in the faith, knowing that the same kind of sufferings are being experienced by your fellow believers throughout the world." Stand strong in faith, and trust in the Lord, He will carry you through.

"Day By Day" was written by Karolina (Lina) Sandell-Berg and composed by Oskar Ahnfelt in 1865. This wonderful Scandinavian hymn has blessed many thousands over the world in Sweden and in the US! I can add that Lina wrote this hymn as a result of her traumatic experience when she saw his father, the reverend, drowning when the boat they travelled with crossed the lake of Vattern, was shiprecked. Linas home can be visited today in Frodinge Smaland just south of Savsjo. Her favourite oak tree is still there, and it is said that she wrote songs sitting up in that tree.

One of my favourite hymns since 1996 when I first heard it while attending a Baptist boarding school in Cameroon. It's a timeless hymn that speaks of our dependency on the All-Sufficient nature of God. He will always tend after us and nurse us through life. Praise God! After a painfull & agonizing moments of 2 months after my wife left me due to marital reasons only God knows why it happened , my pleading to God our Father was granted. She returned to me and once again renewed our love & trust to one another few days before our 50th wedding anniversary. This is a hymn by Lina Sandell (1832-1903) written in 1865 and given a lighter text adaptation in 1872. Originally each line had one syllable less (One day, one moment after each other), but this was changed by the author herself because the text would harmonize with the melody by Oscar Ahnfelt from 1872. Originally a line of lyrics in the first verse read "He who has more than mother's heart" but after pressure from critics, the words were changed to "he who bears for me a father's heart". The hymn is one of the songs that are common at burials in Sweden. Carolina ( Lina ) Wilhelmina Sandell , married Berg , born 3 October 1832 in Fröderyd parish , Jönköping county , died 27 July 1903 in Klara parish , Stockholm city , was a Swedish poet , theologian , writer and psalmist . She is the author of some of the most famous and sung Swedish hymns, among others "Just one day" and "No one can be safer than God's little band of children". Sandell's low-church theology also came to have an influence on Swedish Christianity from the 19th century onwards. Sandell was the daughter of the provost and topographer Jonas Sandell . Lina Sandell usually signed under the signature LS and her name is given alternately with her maiden name , only her husband's surname or both of these in alternating combinations. When married, she always wrote her name as Lina Berg , a double surname she never used herself.
