We need to get authorities or somebody somewhere involved to get those horses taken away from the family. They quite literally are forcing their horses to go lame by refusing to get a new trainer and Sophie refusing to take responsibility to try and improve her equation. And once they don't want the horse anymore because they are "lame" they toss the horse away and the process starts all over again. It's neglect, it's abuse, and it's sickening. This needs to stop, now.

By law, there is nothing to be done. This isn't authority-worthy because it's sadly extremely common. Hopefully in a few decades, it won't be, but people still treat horses like machines. At least this is being discussed on a public forum.

This is why we need better Animal welfare laws. Something would be done about this neglect if the neglect in question was considered such by law. Instead, animals are still seen as property, and as long as they continue to be, they'll continue to suffer.

Why will nobody acknowledge that Sophie's size is problematic? It's so bad for the horse. There's no way she's within the size limits for these horses. It's so wrong to expect these poor animals to carry her. And before I get accused of being fat-phobic, I myself am overweight, hence why I don't ride! I'm hoping to lose weight and begin. But I would never try to put my weight on a horse. So wrong.

I agree. I gained weight after having three kids and developing a chronic illness later on in middle age. I don't ride anymore (especially competitively) and I would only ride a Clydesdale at this point. LoL I just don't think it's fair to see some tall, husky cowboy riding a normal sized mule through hilly forests. No. Get a Clydesdale. P.S. I can't afford to feed a Clydesdale so there's that but until I lose weight I will not ride.
@shlingusdingus4174

I get that being overweight can be caused by a multitude of factors and is difficult to bring down, but no one should be accused of being fatphobic when the weight of the rider is or has become problematic. That's perfectly within reason to point out and address because ultimately that affects the animal.

Sophie's weight would be less problematic IF she could ride properly. Unfortunately her weight is causing additional problems because she has no ability to use her body correctly on the horse or ride correctly. Lady is a weight carrier and should be fine - again, if Sophie was not unbalanced and a bad rider.

The elephant in the room is that this girl cannot ride, is too heavy for the horse and the saddle is too small. She should not be jumping if she cannot properly sit a trot or comfortably ride at the canter. Yes, it’s defeating to be over weight and want to ride but if you truly love horses, you need to put the horse first.
@Kitsune1989
@Kitsune1989 22 күн бұрын
And what's worse too is that there ARE horses big enough to bare her weight. She just refuses to ride one appropriately sized. And as you already said. Basics first, THEN the more 'showy' stuff. It took a year before my instructor even let me canter on a line nm under my own control. It took almost 4 years before i was jumping even small jumps, because i couldnt get the coordination down on ground poles to give a proper release and not be left behind had i been actually jumping. Now i have a very firm foundation to fall back on so when i learn something new i learn it quicker as i dont have to concentrate on certain things because they're second nature now. I dont compete anymore after my old school horse died, i havent been able to return to the show ring even 15yrs later. But i still jump and do dressage, just not in front of an audience anymore. More trails now.

It's bigger than just changing her riding too. Sophie's riding is poor in large part because she has no real work ethic. This is why she keeps changing disciplines, as soon as she's asked to do work that's hard she wants to focus on a different discipline that she believes is less effort.

I don't care if people think that I am fat shaming but Sophie shouldn't be 250 to 300 lbs at 15 years old. Her mother needs to work on that before she gets more horses. If she has a medical issue that spend your money at the doctors and get her the help she needs if it is a psychological issue then get her the help she needs and if it is the kind of food that she is eating then fix that. A lifetime of obesity will end her life earlier than you think it is not healthy to be that overweight. She’s going on 16 but she may be emotionally and psychologically stunted if her parents are overbearing and sheltering with their viewpoints. It can take years to break away and develop an independent mindset if all she has is her family and their perspectives. Applying pressure can crack their hold over her or it could drive her further under their influence. If she ever sees any of your’s or other’s videos I hope she’s mature enough to think about the criticism and come to accept it for the sake of their horses. Something that bothers me in particular is I have a hunch she doesn’t have a genuine interest in real horses, or at least not now, which is fine, horses aren’t for everyone, but if she’s being forced into this lifestyle it could cause her to develop a negative association with horses which can foster lack of empathy for them.

There are lots of equestrians who are overweight but have the skills and experience to ensure the comfort and safety of their horses. Being overweight as opposed to obese or morbidly obese are two different things and can lead to life changing and/or life threatening consequences. Until she gets the help she so seriously needs, she should not be involved in any sporting activity that requires the type of exertion that riding horses does. She is causing great discomfort and pain to her horses but she is endangering herself. She is too young to grasp the seriousness of this but her mother is not. At a certain point- if you are responsible for the care and well being of an animal. You need to take responsibility. Lady is SOPHIE’s horse. Not her mom. Not a stable. Her’s. And if she doesn’t put the time and dedication and care into raising a horse she doesn’t deserve one. Being a pet owner is a privilege. Being a horse owner/rider is a privilege. And if you cannot afford for the care and health of your animal you shouldn’t own one. Full stop.

Laura is really irresponsible, and doesn't care about her daughters riding, only for the views and likes. Doesn't care about the horses health, muscles, saddle fit and over all health. And a bonus point, doesn't care about other animals too. The cages are small, dirty. And how can she talk about massage therapist and chiropractors if she can't even clean out the bunnys cages! And not talking even on Sophies riding, doesn't want to chage trainers all bc don't want to start all over again from 0

I also blame the people who continue to watch her videos. If they stop watching she will stop earning money and getting attention (positive or negative) and then hopefully stop putting her horse through such abuse. This person should not be allowed to have animals.

I’m honestly so done with them. It’s an obvious pattern of getting a horse, the “trainer” trying to “help” Sophie which obviously isn’t working because she hasn’t improved at all and it’s been years, and then they just get rid of the horse. That horse could be going to auction or a bad owner. It’s just so sickening to see this kind of behaviour. I’m ashamed to even call them human.

If overweight people sitting on horses is fatphobia, then adults sitting on ponies is adultphobia.

I don't necessarily see anything wrong with adults on ponies. Firstly not all adults are big. Secondly a lot of pony breeds are bred to carry heavy loads and have the bone for it. A highland pony can carry a 12 stone stag down a mountain no trouble and Dales ponies were bred to carry lead, fuel and ore from mines to the coast - to give two examples. I'm not talking about those awful videos where some lump thinks it's funny to sit on a Shetland but people who want to ride and compete their ponies properly. I don't like to see anyone who is obviously too big for their pony (especially weight-wise) but a lot of adults are light enough and a well built pony can take up a lot of leg so the rider looks fine.

I'm not trying to shame but I feel like Sophie is getting worse as a rider, her back isn't straight and it seems like she's not that into horses. Also she looks like she's getting bigger. But maybe it's the jacket. However if your gonna ride.. you need to be healthy and fit as well as your horse. Riding is a privilege not a right.

10 second Google search tells you CWDs have foam panels,as someone who owns a foam panel saddle, my horses back changed and now i can't ride in my dressage saddle because you can't adjust the panels in any way so they just blatantly lied about it

@@coffeeandhorses7991 Laura is all about Laura, her vlogs are just really junk posting, nothing really changes and the girls don't hardly ride much. She just has nothing better to do than keep a menagerie of animals that "stress her out" so she has something to moan about and vlog over, without it there would be no content. She will be lost when the girls grow up enough to do their own thing.

To be honest, I don't think she's able to ride ponies at all, it always seems like they don't buy horses from a legitimate breeder, but from the looks of it, a lot of the horses look like they were ripped straight from pony rides at the county fair to be delivered to those lying swindlers' farm. They're not even good farmers as well, guess how many ducks they neglected and killed. As someone who is both a farmer and horseman (a shepherd who herds sheep on horseback), this is just tragic and excruciatingly painful to watch.

Normally I'd say a 15 year old is old enough to take responsibility for their actions but after seeing dbd video New Years day where Sophie spent 20 minutes trying to take out the wheelbarrow of manure through the door that kept slamming shut and couldn't figure out to put something to hold it open or ask her twit mother to hold it open I question her mental capabilities. A 5 year old would figure it out yet this 15 year old didn't have a clue then you got her dumb mother filming thinking it's funny. Nothing funny about your child at 15 not being able to figure out something so simple as to use the bucket beside the door to hold it open which her father did instantly. Not a lot of intelligence in this family.
