Let’s be real: no other trainer in their area will tolerate them. Their current trainer is a glorified horse flipper. That’s where they got Lady. I do also think Laura believes in her magical make believe world that her horses and daughters are fine and amazing, same with their lame and obese horses. She will just tell you that Sophie is on her “riding journey” and your journey isn’t the same as hers 😂 The horse is a Dutch harness Clyde cross. She was an Amish cart horse who got put in an auction because she was lame when working too much. And yes she is already lame. You can see her head bobbing and having her hindquarters practically collapse underneath her in many vids. They don’t care. They didn’t care when people tried to give them advice about keeping Chino alive. She’s riding in FINNS saddle. Yes, the pony they sold years ago. They’re never going to listen. You’ve just given Laura lots to do because she’ll be reading every single one of these comments 👋

This poor mare is always sweating, I suspect from stress. They have no clue how to build muscles, how to teach a horse to be calm and confident etc it's a mess. Sophie has no idea what she is doing, balances with her hands still, gets left behind constantly and is riding this poor mare without any regard for the basics of warming up, building muscles and cool down. It's all head up and go fast with a death grip on the horses mouth, such fun. After this many years things should be different, it's only gotten worse.

But you can't tell Laura anything even though she will ask for opinions. There have been so many experienced people helping and giving them great advice. But they never listen. Infact Sophie made the comment THAT WE make her life hell. So people just don't watch anymore or give advice. To me Sophie has regressed. She has not improved at all. I watched her schooling show she was the oldest in her class the younger girls placed, she didn't. She got a 2nd place in poles . The younger girls rode so much better. Infact lady was swishing her tail so much you could see she was stressed. I could go on about her posting, posture and hands but I have said enough. It is sad. Sophie should just trail ride.😮

honestly I'm a violin teacher, and from my experience working with difficult parents, it might not be the trainer's fault. Like I'd say the violin is too large, the kid can't reach to play properly, they need a smaller size, the mom says "oh yeah we will go get her a different size," next week they come back, still with the exact same violin, kid still can't reach, mom says "oh yeah I didn't have time, we'll get it next time, so we end up twiddling our thumbs all lesson, rinse and repeat for literally months. Same with practicing. I would tell the parents that they need to practice with their four year old, because she's too young to practice on her own, it just literally doesn't work. I'd show them exactly what they need to do with their kid for 10 minutes a day in order to make any progress, then they go home and they just... don't. After months go by with just endless frustration and so much money wasted by the parents on lessons their kids don't get anything out of, I start to realize the parents don't want violin lessons, they just want super expensive daycare that checks a box for them. I end up just being silly and goofing around with the kids the whole time and hoping they just get some good memories out of it, so that if later in life they want to actually play music, they at least had a good experience. It's so hard because kids learn that they are no good at stuff, when it turns out their parents just needed to take the fantasy in their head of their little kid in violin lessons a little less seriously, and take the practical day to day necesseties a little more seriously.

Thank you for pointing this out. I've been advising for years out of love of the horses, but I guess I'm one of the 'haters'. With over forty years of experience and a high level degree from the German National Riding School it pains me to see how they treat their horses. First of all, Sophie is way too heavy for ANY horse. Just because a horse is big doesn't mean it can carry weight. Watch that mare move with a hollow back and labored hind end movement. She's struggling. What also drives me up the wall is this constant anthropomorphism where they interpret their animals' "love and feelings". As far as the trainer goes (and I use that term lightly and reluctantly): "Outside leg" and "half halt" is about the only instruction you hear out of this guy. He can't even put correct distances between trot poles and/or jumps. And my list of ravings goes on and on, but I gotta take the dogs out............... Keep doing what you're doing in the name of horse welfare. They need any support they can get these days.

I have done that to my students as will. Also there was a 25 cent fine which had to be paid the the following week. Or they had to write a 50 word essay why my instructor made me do and the proper way it was done. And why it is done this way. At the end of the month we all were judge on our riding. It was scored and compared to the months before. Then the real test. How we placed in a schooling show. If we didn't place we could go and talk to the judge and ask him what we did wrong and how to improved. The we, is myself and students.

Keep being a voice Raleigh. I've been teaching riding since 1988. I have very very few students who do not advance into cantering jumps within their first 18 months and I require. 1: Solid stable leg with heels down that the rider can hold in place securely throughout all three gaits. 2. Correct hand position with soft moving hands that can travel all the way to the horses ears and back in 2-point position through all 3 gaits without balance faltering and over small cavaletti at the trot on a lunge line. 3. Solid seat position that doesn't slide or loose it's center through all three gaits I also "Pre-Jump" my riders on a lunge line over Cavaletti with no reins in their hands and work on getting them comfortable holding themselves and their hands without reigns to accidentally tug or yank while they learn and solidify that balance. All of that BEFORE the rider can start jumping anything from a canter. Again...with very few exceptions (I have had a few over the years that took longer) My riders advance to comfortably safely cantering jumps within their first 18 months of riding. 1 lesson a week with a group hack on the weekends I ask them to participate in as well so they're riding under instruction twice a week. Sophie...despite her bodies weight distribution (I have plenty of chubby riders and I am no longer a skinny thing myself anymore) should not have the hand position, upper body issues and weak unbalanced seat she has. I would be upset to see it in a rider that had only been riding for a year with steady instruction but 6 years? 6 Years in my riders are competing and qualifying for nationals. There is no reason for her to ride like she does except she's not getting good instruction and her parents really should acknowledge that and have her best interests at heart...move her to a better trainer. This can't be good for that girls self esteem. I've struggled more times than I can count with riders who were not advancing where they were and had gotten a feeling they were just hopeless, breaking through the mournful acceptance of their "Bad riding" to where they feel good and are motivated and open again to progress takes some real effort...and...access to great horses. Many of my "stuck in place" riders had to spend time riding MY horses not their own in order to break through their issues and realize...they really could be great. My riders switch horses all the time, even privately owned horses, I'll have their rider/owner get off and trade with other riders for exercises....Sophie needs to sit on a horse that will carry her well while she sorts herself out. A true lesson horse. Not a rehab project.

Once upon a time they did a video where they went to a different trainer that was actually good. She made them work and focus on themselves and fixing so much that they were doing wrong. As well as making them take accountability for how they were riding. Gabby was even talking about how she was sore after the lesson because of how hard the trainer worked them. A tip - ride with a crop balanced across your wrists. Also, drop the reins (have them pre-tied) in front of the jump. This leaning on one hand while lifting the other is not going to be tolerated by those jumping horses. Practice with your arms out at shoulder height with your palms facing out, “airplane arms”. Work on legs and balance by balancing on a stair, as sunk as your heels and knees can bear, the balls of your being your only balancing points, they must be flexible. Under saddle, rise up to stand (your knees will not be needed) with airplane arms. Eventually you’ll be able to do that at all gaits. Aim for metal and force free riding. Anyone can work these exercises. Whoever does these the most is going to be the most comfortable rider for the horses to carry. Educate yourself. Do not let anyone just tell you

My daughter started riding when she was 8. We didn't have a horse but we found somebody in 4-H that she was able to share and learn the basics and even do some local 4-H shows. I could tell she was taking it seriously. She caught the horse bug just like I did at her age LOL. She started learning to ride hunt seat. On a Saddlebred. When she was 10 we went to a local Saddlebred farm and she started taking lessons there. She was so used to hunt seat she was hesitant to try saddle seat. After a few months she gave it to go. And excelled! Weekly lessons turned into me saving up to buy her her own Saddlebred. Mind you I was a single mom. Once she started showing on a higher level I started working a second job delivering pizza at Domino's. Sounds silly but I made pretty good money. When she turned 16 she got hired at the barn. She got a paycheck. But if she did extra things she got free lessons. Horses are expensive. I was paying almost as much for board and lessons than I did my rent. People need to realize if you're going to have a horse ride regularly and or show it costs dollars. A lot of those dollars go to good trainers. It makes me sad that Sophie's parents don't feel that she's worthy of that kind of investment.

I'm sorry, but your experience and what's happening here are two very, very different experiences. If these people actually took the time and effort to find an authority meant to actually and really teach them things they need to know, then they'd be much better off. Instead, they're guiding their riding toward different ends in the entertainment sector of things, for views. It's just not the same. The intent is different, the facilities for learning are different. You want somewhere* build all around for what you were meant to learn. *damn phone, edited typo I was trying to be mean, by the way. I'm mainly saying that you're comparing two different ideas. They're not at some upkept learning facility specifically for riding in any sense. I feel like a lot of parents push for their kids to move up too soon. One of my biggest reasons for quitting teaching. I had two sisters and one had been riding longer than the other; I’d only had TWO lessons with them and the mom asked when they could start cantering… I was like first of all, they have only been on these horses twice, second they are at different levels and I’m trying to spend equal time to assess their skills and third the one sister is extremely nervous and I am still just trying to get her to sit a trot properly on a lunge line! There is no bloody way I am letting her canter! I had another girl and she actually told me how much she appreciated me taking the time with her, she had a bad experience at a different barn and was nervous about riding again but she really wanted to get back riding. We went back to the basics, we built her confidence back up, she smiled at her lessons; I felt so bad when I quit teaching there, because we were making progress, but the other coach there contradicted everything I did, we did not see eye to eye and I was not going to let my reputation in our small horse community get ruined by being associated with her. I don’t think that stable is operating anymore and I’m not shocked

My private riding instructor would've had "the hands" situation sorted out in that lesson! When giving my friends lessons, as a joke, i had their favourite alcohol drink out with me and when those hands weren't in the correct position i would start tipping the drink out and believe me that was 1 of the best and funniest ways i corrected things, and because the BBQ would be after, all they had to drink was what was left in the bottle. I always said to pick points around the work area and run ur mental check as the top, maybe leg postion, halfway hand position, etc.. so that way, it wasn't overwhelming trying to check and readjust a whole bunch in 1 area. There r too many instructors like this 1 who either tell u what u want to hear or, in this case, agree with mum and bully a rider as ur keeping in sweet with mum to book that next lesson as mum is being agreed with, and in this case mum doesn't know anything about ridinng except seeing it as a way to put her kids down sadly. I don't want to put this girl down anymore, but she needs to go back to a walk and she needs to work on position and balance, and some work with legs out the stirrups so she sits in the deepest part of the saddle and gets to relax and feel the horses natural movement and learn to go along with that. This instructor is just cashing in on this family and belittling and bullying a student, and mum is posting it for the world to see on jump on teaming heaps of abuse at them. My advice ...get rid of ur dud instructor and get someone who is interested in turning ur daughters into proper riders as no decent instructor wants their name behind someone who hasn't progressed in years as it's a bad refelction on ur instructing and giving u a bad name! And if the girls r unteachable, then any decent instructor will tell u that ur wasting both their time and urs as they don't want to learn and just paddock bash around, so save ur money and perhaps look at getting out of horses and finding a new hobby! Their mother is setting them up to fail sadly 😢

I don’t even watch them anymore. They drive me crazy. She’s it’s not good.

It looks like a lot but it's really not. They divide the class by age though sometimes all are in the ring together and not to be blunt but there are very few riders 12+ riding walk trot classes, her classes are sometimes just 3 kids.

I suspect they are fake competition ribbons. You can purchase those online. She's never filmed the actual competition, has she?

Im sorry what? Did they just say “tie her hands to the browband”?! Wouldn’t that mean she’s still stuck to the horse if she were to fall off?! That’s just asking for injuries!

You have hit the nail on the head. The mother is crucifying her child for the sake of views, as her comments are despicablely cruel. The daughter flops around in the saddle, thus her leg and hands are constantly bounced out of position, a problem which is exacerbated by the horse’s long, hollow back and lameness behind. Years from now, I wouldn’t be surprised if the daughters sever their relationship with the mother, recognizing how much they suffered at the expense of the mother’s video “career”. They will be horrified to discover how many of the points posted by commenters were actually well-intentioned as sound advice, particularly to enhance the poor instruction of their “trainer”. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that he has another partially lame horse to sell them when their current draft horse cross goes lame. And did I hear correctly, that to improve the position of her hands, the daughter will have her hands tied to the.....browband?! Better to tie a narrow band of elastic, such as that used in clothing, to the D rings on the pommel, and have her slip her pinky finger through the elastic loop. That will help to keep her hands up and steady, and the correct distance apart, while allowing for a little give. But the poor horse certainly doesn’t need to have it’s head tied to the rider - it’s back will simply hollow-out even more as it tries to evade her, resulting in an even more upright carriage and jerky pace. And find a better trainer to help your daughters advance!

I feel really bad for Sophie and the horse. My trainer gave me a crop to have underneath my thumbs to help me with my hand posture. It’s obvious that the horse is having difficulty jumping. I have seen green horses that are getting used to jumping with similar issues but you can easily tell that the issue is mental. In the video you can see that the issue is in the body.

After 15 years of riding I've been at 4 different barns and had over 10 different trainers, ive seen the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to trainers. But each one taught me something. I was trotting for 2 years (partially so i was ready to canter and partially because i had a bad instructor who later got fired a few months after i swapped barns) before moving to canter and was cantering for a few months before moving to small jumps. I have also watched as kids are progressed to quickly and are cantering and jumping after only a couple months or riding (and you can definitely tell that they are not ready) i have also taught riding lessons and i understand the pressure that the trainer feels, when the kids want to do something that you know their not ready for but they are begging to do it. I was once that kid wanting to jump and canter before i was ready. But i am now so glad that i was held back. I now have an incredible seat and the knowledge i need to try new things more successfully. But even now, i still have lessons where i go back to basics and walk and trot. The girls trainer should be pulling them back to basics and re capping. Doesnt mean they cant ever jump small jumps as a treat, but they need to re cap basics (preferably with a different trainer) before jumpjng bigger jumps.

I found my current trainer after feeling stuck at one level with my last and have progressed more in 5 months than sophie has in 10 years. Trainers play such a big role.

It sucks to think how this girl hasn’t gotten better in years! I used to take lessons at a barn every week and after 1 year I was moved to the advanced riding course where they gave you difficult horses and took you on advanced trails. After one year of being in a beginner class I got to move on to crossing waters, going down steep hills, jumping on trails and doing advanced work in the arena including the basics in a more advanced manner, mini competitions, games, ect.

Honestly, this has been going on for SO LONG and at this point I think we just need to stop giving them the attention that they’re seeking. The more videos that are made about them the more views and comments they’re going to receive and that’s what’s making the channel blow up more & more.

As someone who usually doesn't agreement with everything you say. I can 100% agree with this video being stone walled by both parent and trainer makes improvement so hard. Changing trainers is a must for horse and Sophie

I feel like Sophie is at an age where she could honestly start advocating for herself. Gabby did and she's been in less videos as of late from what I have noticed. It seems like Sophie is a sensitive child and she takes a lot of things to heart as well as she goes along with the crowd definitely a follower and easily influenced by others. She tried western riding for a while that was not recorded except for small trail rides but ended up going back to English riding and with the same trainer for some reason and that kind of raises some red flags to me.
