What a crazy final set. Can honestly say I've never seen an object ball hop out of a pocket, or an object ball fly off the table on the break in a matchroom tournament. Congrats to Europe who played stellar all week. Hopefully this will motivate USA to work hard next season and come back stronger in Vegas 2024.

The ball flying off the table was nuts. Probably had something to do with the template. The ball coming back out of the hole does happen from time to time, usually when the balls in the pocket get stacked on top of each other. That's why Johnny Archer and some older school players used to always move balls from one pocket to another before they shot at it.

"Comeback stronger next year" well it's not that simple. The quality gap between two teams is widening as the time goes by and it likely will not gonna stop soon. Team Europe are all champions nowadays and they still have many amazing players to choose if they decide to make a change. Meanwhile in USA they still playing Tyler who'd barely pass through 64 in any recent WNT tournaments. Their only hope is Fedor. Ironic.

US players should stop playing pool at the local bars for quick cash and concentrate on playing 9ball. Albin Filler and FSR are all focused on playing 9ball but you have guys like SVB who plays all disciplines of pool all the time, that is the only reason they keep missing simple shots. The patterns in 9ball v 8ball v one pocket are very different and when you don't spend nearly as many hours as your opponent on the same pool discipline chances are you're not gonna beat them.

Day 1 USA should have won at least the team match if not for SVB choking TWICE! Day 2 Fedor should have won 1 single vs FSR cuz FSR scratched and didn't play that well but Fedor couldn't capitalize. Day 3 maybe the single with Sky could have gone his way as he was leading first. Day 4 Woolford could have won if he dropped that 9 that David missed. So overall the score potentially could have been 11-7 to make a much more interesting contest but still Europe winning.

I am wondering if they put a lot of emphasis on their safety play in their practice sessions and the breaks were where they needed the tune-up. (to me, their breaking mishaps lost the most games). Today, they were playing more aggressive in safety/go for the shot situations, and it seemed to work better for them. I haven't watched the entire tournament though, so maybe I am getting it wrong. 🤔.

Outstanding performance by the European squad. Hats off to you, made it look far easier than it should be. As for my American aquad, I think its time to bring in some new blood. SVB played some of the worst pool I have ever seen him play. Really hope next year he isnt just automatically on the team cause of who he is, he's played in enough and has a horrible record as it is. Tyler Styer is another one I wouldn't mind seeing gone, he hasn't ever made me want him on the team with his past performances. Wolford played great for a first timer, pressure didn't seem to faze him much. Sky plays great pretty much every year and he seems to love the atmosphere and doesn't get rattled by the pressure. As for Fedor, he didn't play great but, it was his first run with the U.S. team I believe that had an effect on his play especially in doubles matches. I dont think he's played with the guys enough to have a good amount of chemistry yet. They better do something different cause thats 2 consecutive years they were just manhandled and had their ass kicked by the guys across the pond.

SVB was on the team because he qualified in the rankings-behind Sky I might add. Fun fact, Fedor also qualified in the rankings after he announced his US status. Guess who was third in the US rankings before that happened-Shane Wolford. THAT is the caliber of selection we have to deal with. Every single European player on that team is in the TOP 24 In the WORLD Fargo rating. Wolford and Styer arent even if the top 100. Pool is growing Overseas, and it isn’t in North America, let alone the US. I hear people say “It should be Europe vs North America,” but Pagulayan and Morra barely play anymore and don’t even match Skys Fargo. MAYBE it would be a little closer, but EVERY year more and more young blood Euros are popping up on tour with SO much skill and dedication. USA needs a serious change to ever win another Mosconi.

@@rickwilson478sorry but that's completely wrong, you've missed Filler respectfully shaking hands after every match and even hugs sometimes, and look at the class he showed with Styer last year after potting the winning 9. His antics are often annoying but are aimed at the crowd and he's gracious with players in victory or defeat. He actually laughed at Shane mimicking him and then warmly shook his hand. Watch again. Shane is always classy and I think the pose at the end of that one - it's a mimic of Christiano Ronaldo BTW - was done in good spirit. Funny that Shane doesn't really know how to do it too. It was all good fun, unlike the trauma of the rest of this year's event.

Congratulations, your team really earned the win, and though I don't like Filler's boasting style, I have been commenting that his shooting ability is really impressive and his safety play is, I think , the best. The double lock-up safety.. on the six(?) was perfect, and he just walked away, I think, without even waiting for the six ball to stop moving... he knew right where it was going.

I do it once or twice a month on my home table. The reason is my table has plastic pockets that go to the ball return. With enough back or forward spin on the cue ball it transfers to the object ball sometimes causing it to spin back out. This wouldn't happen on netted pockets

...yeah, and I was surprised that we didn't see Alcaide clear the pocket the next time they showed him shooting an important ball to that same pocket. If Wolford took the extenstion to shoot the 9 ball that Alcaide missed in the side pocket on rack 5, it would've allowed him to walk around the table and be more relaxed. He looked pressured by the shot clock, but had plenty of time to settle if he used the extension. This would've put him 3-2 ahead of Alcaide... with more pressure on Alcaide. Someone was eventually gonna lose it for U.S.A., just wished there were a few more matches.

This has to be a wake-up moment for the U.S. pool community. We CANNOT depend on Matchroom to drive a push in awareness for this sport. I am confused about U.S. pocket billiards leadership with the U.S. aligning with WPA while the best players are committed to the 9-ball tour. We need a unified strategy and a strong pipeline development program to compete! We can do this!

I asked if he wanted to play but they said he couldn’t because he wasn’t 21. 🙄 this kid could end up being a legend but he won’t get a chance to play until he’s old enough to drink? @IronOrchid-HQ... there are two guys who have a KZbin channel I watched last nite, I think it's called "dogging it", and in their Mosconi commentary yesterday, the U.S. fan guy hesitantly said he thought JJ should not want SVB on next year's team, like right at the end of their half hour show and the other guy's reaction was, whoa, you drop that bomb at the end of the podcast? It seemed like they both know Van Boening personally . It's not like the idea is out of nowhere, but then, is there an obvious better choice? It could easily be the same five players for Europe next year, and it would be great to see the U.S. same five beat the odds and eek out a win next year, not like it's impossible as many commenters seem to think.

I can't see the US winning any more Mosconi Cups. The odds now are really against them. I expect four of the US players will be participating in the next 5 to 10 competitions. And as a team against the current and future Europeans they just are not good enough, nor will they get much better. The opportunities and money is just not there for US players. And the situation will only get worse. I applaud Shane Wolford for trying, but if he is the future of US billiards, the outlook is indeed bleak.

Europe has over forty countries and 2.5 times the population of the US. One country versus an entire continent??? Break them up into 3 or 4 regions. Then add Taiwan, China, and the Philippines, each as their own team. Now take those 8 teams and have a Mosconi team tournament. Single elimination, 3 rounds, each match held in a different country. Still could be done at the end of the year, maybe start round one near the end of November.
