I'm not sure that you're 100% correct in your description of how you use that little gadget that fits onto a rest. I've got one and yes, it can be used in certain situations as a spider when you're hampered by other balls. But its main use is when you need to use the rest alongside the cushion and it allows you to position the cue literally above the cushion itself. Or it allows you to slide one of the bottom prongs of the rest slightly under the cushion and it still gives you the height of a spider. You can't do this with a traditional spider as the prongs are vertical and you'd be trying to position the spider with one prong on the cushion and one prong on the table. It's true that such shots are a fairly rare occurrence; since I bought mine, I've only used it once in about my last 5 matches. But for the sake of a fiver, it's definitely worth carrying one around in your case because it will, on occasion, allow you do make a shot that would otherwise be extremely difficult or nearly impossible.

As a keen amateur since the late ‘70s, maybe Steve Hendry has never seen, or has forgotten where this accessory is very useful. I refer to the plastic rest fork slide on extension (that Steve Davis used), and I’ve used since I got one soon after seeing it, main use isn’t as an alternative spider. It’s use is for better cueing when the cue ball and object ball are tight or very close to a cushion and it’s on your wrong cueing arm. The lower fork below the extended fork can fit under the cushion rail and the fork of the extension allows you to cue along the line of the shot. Not often used, but now and again very handy. I keep mine over my cue tip to protect it in its case, which is another use. 5 out of 5 in my opinion 🙂

No need for a glove in the UK. If the heat in the club is too high and my hand starts sweating I just put chalk on my left hand where the cue runs. NOT snooker chalk, blackboard chalk. It works perfectly and fits in my case. It doesn't go on the table or the balls, so being white is not a problem.
@w00llee142 ай бұрын
I use a bit of very fine grit sandpaper for the area of the cue where my bridge hand goes. Has the same effect as chalk on the hand or a glove.
@stressball13242 ай бұрын
@@fatroberto3012 The glove is far more efficient in the long run and very clean. Despite what you may say, blackboard chalk is going to make the table dirty, which means the snooker club owners are going to get annoyed in the long term. Putting the glove on instead tends to be far less problematic, especially those with disabilities.

I have a leather magnetic chalk holder from Temu of all places and it is fantastic. It even came with both round chalk holder and square chalk holder and all of it is made of tooled genuine leather. Also, the magnets are very strong and hold the chalk extremely well. I think I paid around $15-$20 for the three piece set.

Re the tip file, I bought the Peradon one because I lost the one I had for years, which was very good. I cut mine in half to make two and glued a piece of styrene on the end which I shaped, so you do not have to hold the paper.

7:25 I have used a Riley magnetic chalk holder and clip for over 30 years from playing in a league to playing with my mates. I keep it in my cue case and use it every time I play. It clips nicely on to the back pocket of my jeans. I have never used Taom chalk, always triangle for me. Love the portable rest as table 2 at my club has a rest with uneven ends that won't screw in further and it's annoying when you get that rest out and have to twiz it round to the end that's even, this breaking your concentration on the shot. Might have to get one of those cheers for the helpful video Stephen.

I stopped watching after the Mark Williams gadget. To not know what something is and not even use it properly, and then to give it four out of five is a scam. What's the use of watching your analysis, if it's not going to give an honest analysis? It's just you talking, and on top of that you're talking shit. Thumbs down.

You should give that second shaper a second chance. Use your thumb and pinky finger to hold each end, started using one myself couple years ago. Any other way to hold it sucks. Almost similar to racking a 9 ball rack hand shape. Love the content!

As much as I love the ides of a telescoping rest, the only con I can see is where to keep the pieces. The handle fits in a case fine... but the heads won't fit in a case. The magnetic chalk thing though... with that weak magnet... BCE have a line of those things, they're simple black plastic and the magnet is really strong, but, you need a piece of blu-tac in the bottom of the chalk block... and the BCE ones, only cost about £5, half the price of the one Stephen showed. Most people I know that use the magnetic chalk holder, use the BCE one. I think the cost of Taom is the problem. £15... and for that price you can get literally dozens of Triangle and BCE chalks. £6-7 for a cue towel? Stephen's right. Any towels will do as long as they aren't greasy. I have a pack of microfibre towels from Tesco, like, 6 in a pack, and they cost £1 for the bag :D Only little gadgets I carry in my case are two tip-sanders/shapers similar to the Peradon... and a cheapo black plastic cue extension that all my club pals say looks like a d*ldo. The good thing with those sanders as well, is you can replace the sandpaper, which is why I carry two, one with rough paper, one with finer paper. Stephen, you also held it wrong when trying to use it. If you placed your thumb on the other end and as you run the sander/shaper over the tip... basically use your thumb as a blocker at one end of the shaper... and curve the movement at the same time, and it'll put a nice shape to the tip, and a finer sandpaper will just refine afterward. They're good little tools, just gotta get used to keeping your thumb at one end to block the sandpaper from coming out.
