I started in the masonry trade as a hod carrier in 1968. Spent the last 25 years as a foreman, mostly schools and water treatment plants. So I can see elevator shafts are still the pain in the butt they always were. Thanks for the memories! Keep up the hard work, it will eventually pay off.

Looks easy, but as a Union Laborer myself it can be demanding. Just depends on the mason and how fast they go. You do get used to it. It's a fun, but dirty job.

@@jcfpv3454 I stopped masonry early this year....Back in the 90's everyone cut block and brick with out water. People wore those stupid paper masks but the person cutting would always have a silica mustache.( they would always say"It's better than nothing)The mask was basically nothing..... I saw a guy cutting stress lines in a concrete floor with a walk behind saw. You couldn't see him when he was cutting. I asked him where was his respirator and if he knew what silicosis was of course he said he didn't have one and no. I told him to get a respirator and get fit tested for it. Silica NEVER leaves your lungs. It hits the moisture and turns into cement again. ( Not everyone can wear a respirator...a lot of stress on your heart and breathing)... This might help you. www.silica-safe.org/ask-a-question/faq...Hamburg, NY
