Woah. This break down was SO REAL. I felt everything you were saying! You express yourself so raw, you’re the coolest and I love how all your medical equipment is just a really amazing accessory to who you are! You can tell you are literally hurting and that’s heart breaking but literally you convince yourself other wise and that takes strength!! Good for you! 100% you’re a bad ass!

It really is hard with diabetes, its always hit or miss with being okay with it and then feeling overwhelmed. If you’re anxious that could be playing with your sugars too. Mine normally ride high when I’m anxious. I love decorating my pumps with stickers or rhinestones and make them a cute accessory. I’ve had little kids stop me and say hi because I normally have mine showing and they feel seen because they wear them and that really helps me feel more confident.

I really am in awe of your latest podcast, I laughed with you, and shed many tears with you. I want you to know you are valid and every emotion you are experiencing are valid. The emotions you are feeling towards your diabetes is so valid. In a very different way, I relate to you. I was in a car crash that left me with a traumatic brain injury, movement disorder, etc. I still have days where I mourn the life I had before all the medical complications. I have days where I get insecure and feel like a burden. Because living with chronic illness or diabetes IS tough. But the good thing is we are TOUGHER. We still offer the world so much. Be gentle with yourself, Soph. One day at a time 💛.

Soph! It's so brave of you to show the full range of human emotion on your channel as sadness is something most of us can relate to. Grief isn't a straight line, and it will ebb and flow for the rest of your life. What's important is allowing yourself to feel it the way you have been instead of numbing yourself and shutting down. You're no less strong when you're crying than you are when you're smiling. I'm sure that you feel so attached to having "good" blood sugar levels because it feels like one of the few things you can control in such an out-of-your-control situation, but please don't forget that there are things you can't change. You can do absolutely everything right and still have spikes you don't expect, and that is in no way your fault--it's just your body trying its best! I'm so proud of you for putting yourself first and rediscovering who you are as an individual! It's a lot of work, but it is well worth it.
@savannahcollins350

Also, all of the emotions you’re feeling are completely normal and totally okay. You’ve gone through SO much change so quickly and it’s normal to feel overwhelmed, anxious, sad, lonely, etc. Healing and grief are anything but linear, but remember the bad always comes with good. Don’t beat yourself up for having a “bad” day emotionally or feel like there’s a timeline to feeling better or back to “100%.” Once you accept “I’m going to have good days and bad days, and that’s okay”, it will get easier and you’ll be able to almost forgive yourself for not feeling your best all the time. Just be kind to yourself and know that the bad days don’t make you a failure or mean that you’re moving backwards, they are just a part of the healing process that are actually pushing you forwards and fostering so much growth. Overtime there will be more good days than bad, and then almost no bad days at all. You’re doing so great and we’re all so incredibly proud of you and support you fully. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us, and reach out if you ever need a friend or someone to talk to (I’m 26 and don’t live too far from you). You’ve got this Soph! ❤️💕

soph :( i feel you on that breakdown about diabetes. i was 9 when i was diagnosed so i don't really know much of a life without diabetes, but i understand that health anxiety is really terrible. my 11 year anniversary is on the 22nd and i already know that day is going to be hard. i grieve a life that i could have lived and how different everything would be. but some of the things i've learned in my 11 years is that your blood sugar is going to do some wild things. i've found for myself that understanding that so many things affect my blood sugar helps me rationalize why it's doing what it's doing. if i'm excited about something during my day or anxious about something, it goes up. if i get really, REALLY scared, it drops like crazy. when i'm sick with the flu or have a UTI, it spikes. rarely EVER do i have "perfect" numbers. i know that what we have could kill us, but its so rare that being 150 or even 200 will do much to hurt us (not official medical advice lmao). and in terms of devices, i feel that way too sometimes. i started off with a libre 2 a year ago and for the first couple months i felt like the shit. then i started the omnipod a few months ago and having strangers ask me "what's that on your arm? what's that on your leg?" is when the insecurities stared a bit. but this is your story soph!! this is who you and me and so many other people like us are! when i hear you talk about diabetes on your vlogs or see your content with your omnipod out and proud, it makes me feel very seen and validated. i feel like i almost have a friend whose also just like me and we can relate to each other. anyways i know this is long and you likely wont read or see it but i want you to know the majority of people wont judge you for your devices and that it's okay to grieve the life you once had. but just know that you get stronger every single day and you've got so many people in your corner (myself included!!)

I agree with the chores thing. My parents (cubans) forced me to do chores if i wanted to go out, now i’m the type of person that will not do chores unless i choose to do it, but I definitely have a negative attachment to washing dishes but i love folding clothes, i loathe cleaning, that was the one thing i was mainly forced to do and i have such a negative view towards it since my mom would always critique how i would clean, you just had to do it her way or her way. And it was always hard to meet those expectations, so now i no longer clean, im moving out and no longer have to worry about someone forcing me to do something that your mind plays a huge part in it, tell me who cleans when they’re not in a right state of mind. If I feel good and my mind is not stressed and my anxiety is not high then I’ll definitely be motivated, but if not, then i will wallow in my couch.

When I was first diagnosed with chronic illness (specifically A cardiac condition) I grieved my old life so much, and still do at times. But I promise you it gets better with time. You will fully go through an entire grieving process, and even when you get past one phase of the process, you may fall back a little to a previous phase here and there. it’s been 5 years, though I do miss my old self, I’ve learned to love my new self, chronic illnesses and all bc I know it has made me the person I am today and I’m proud of that. I do however still feel like a burden to people, but I cannot tell you the amount of people who reassure me that I’m not, and prove that to me by showing me. Healing (mentally) will come with time my love, and I promise you are NOT a burden. I just want to give you a hug so bad 🥺😭

I was made to do chores by my parents and now that I’m on my own I absolutely hate them and I will procrastinate doing them for as long as I can but I also always thought that if they didn’t make me do chores then I wouldn’t know the responsibilities of being independent and doing house work to keep things clean. When I was first diagnosed I was the classic symptoms and immediately turned to Gatorade, apple juice and water. Then went to urgent care and was told my levels were at 400... 2 days later I went to the hospital and was admitted, I blamed the apple juice for 2 weeks. It was so stupid but I am still struggling (its my 1 month day today since I was diagnosed) seeing your vlogs and seeing you live your life is actually helping Me even if you don't show the bad. 🥰 thank you for vlogging your days good or bad it really does help!!

yes my parents do and have and I have times where I have motivation to clean. I definitely did then to get them done but I enjoy it more now since I do then on my own. i literally love psychology, it's amazing and so interesting

i understand being embarrassed about your medical devices. i feel that way about mine too. but know that these things help you to live and give you a more comfortable lifestyle. and there’s nothing embarrassing about that. i don’t judge my friends with diabetes and i don’t judge you either. i think you’re beautiful. and i am proud of you

I never had to do chores as a kid and I was a MESS as a teen. But now as a young 20s, I’m OBSESSED with staying on top of everything and being super super clean. I agree with your theory! My roommate was forced to do chores- and she avoids until she HAS to 😂

100% agree on the chores theory! my parents never made me do chores growing up and as soon as i got my first apartment i was so on top of all my chores like even more so than most of my roommates
