Hi! I'm planning on applying for the rad tech program next year, so your videos have been very helpful! I have a question about the program. It’s been awhile since I took my anatomy and physiology class, and I’m worried I won’t remember enough anatomy to do well in the program. Do you have to come into the program knowing all the joints, names of the bones, etc, or did you get a chance to re-learn most of it as part of the program? I'm just worried because although I loved anatomy and it’s one of the reasons I want to be an x-ray tech, I’m worried about not remembering enough and having to relearn all of it.
@JuliaKristine3 жыл бұрын
Hi! That's so exciting! When it came to my positioning instructor, we were expected to come into the program with a large majority of knowledge of the bones, joints, etc. since we were required to take A&P 1 & 2 prior to the program. We didn't necessarily need to come in with a ton of knowledge of the organs/their functions though! Of course, every program will be different and every instructor is different! Before starting your program, I would suggest refreshing on positional terms (anterior, posterior, medial, lateral, proximal, distal, adduct, abduct, supine, prone, dorsal, recumbent, etc), as well as medical terminology! I think you will be just fine 😊
@EarthyAlisha3 жыл бұрын

Hi!!! I’ve seen some of your videos and I was wondering if you went to an X-ray school or studied radiology technology. Or is that pretty much the same? I just applied to my community college radiology technology program. Is that the type of school needed to be able to take X-rays and stuff like that? How do you learn ct or mri?
@JuliaKristine3 жыл бұрын
I went to a technical college and have an A.A.S. degree in Radiologic Technology! So yes, that's the program! For me, CT and MRI are considered post-primary pathways since Radiography was my Primary, but there are Primary MRI pathways www.arrt.org/pages/earn-arrt-credentials/initial-requirements/postprimary-requirement Most people around my area get their ARRT credentials and then get a job in MRI/CT and do on-the-job training
@laraebler99633 жыл бұрын
@@JuliaKristine ok cool, so to me it sounds like I might be following the same path you did getting an associates in applied science for radiology technology.... does that automatically mean my primary will be radiography then, correct? I think I want to start off with X-rays and such, but maybe eventually go into mri if that would be possible. Since I’ll have to get my ARRT credentials from my program does that mean I could get hired for mri without extra school or training or do you get trained once hired? Wouldn’t they prefer someone that already specializes in mri rather than someone who needs to be trained? Sorry if this doesn’t make sense I don’t know how I want to word this lol. Thank you for your help though.
@JuliaKristine3 жыл бұрын
Yes! If you're majoring in Rad Tech, your primary pathway will be Radiography. After you graduate, you will schedule your boards exam (ARRT) and after you pass this with 75 or higher, you'll be registered to work as an x-ray technologist. Most people start out with a job in x-ray first, and eventually some kind of get an "in" with the CT/MRI departments. So for example, when I was an x-ray tech at a hospital we helped a lot with transferring patients in CT/MRI, and sometimes they'll see how great of a worker someone is and recommend that they transfer departments and cross-train - I hope that makes sense! Some small facilities also hire on x-ray techs and immediately require them to train into CT. I had quite a few classmates that did this in rural facilities! Otherwise, if you're just blindly applying to CT/MRI jobs with no experience, yes - typically they will be more likely to hire someone who has experience and is credentialed - but you never know :)
@laraebler99633 жыл бұрын
@@JuliaKristine ahhhh ok that clarifies a lot!!!Thank you so much for helping, now I just hope I get accepted into the program and get through it successfully. Thank you so much, I’ll definitely continue keeping up with your channel, congrats on getting where you are at in your career!!!:)

You’re required to pass a venipuncture unit for the program because of exams called an IVP. IVs are rarely started by the rad techs anymore, though. Do you get bored at work? Would you like to work in a place that is constantly busy?
@JuliaKristine3 жыл бұрын
I don’t get bored because I have other tasks too, but I do wish I had more X-rays

@@JuliaKristine thanks for the encouragement do you think this line of work would suit someone with extreme anxiety?? I struggle a lot :(
@JuliaKristine3 жыл бұрын
@@katelynvillegas9306 I have anxiety and take medication to manage it and I do just fine ☺️ sometimes there are higher stress situations, but for me it was almost like exposure treatment! The more I experienced it, the “better” and more comfortable I started to be with those circumstances!

I have a question I hear radiology will take years of someone’s life . Is this true or was it true once lol . My dream job is radiology but everyone tells me don’t do it because it will take years off your life . I’m hoping it’s an urban legend lol

That’s a load of bs and can be said for any career due to stress 😂 now if it’s radiation they’re talking about - that’s just fear tactic. I always recommend people to read this article www.everydayhealth.com/pictures/radioactive-jobs-and-their-cancer-risks/ Pursue what makes you happy! You will be almost fully protected (the reason I word it that way is because no barrier is 100% effective at absorbing scatter) by a lead lined booth or lead aprons when near exposure
