I know this video is a couple of years old but thank you for posting this. Having to choose what college I wanna go to in covid times has been such a pain and seeing this gave me the exact feel for not only the inside of dmac (which I couldn’t see when I visited I had to peer creepily thru the windows) but also the kinds of people I should expect to hang out with! :)

I really appreciate you making this video. I’m quite surprised I haven’t had it recommended to me until now. I’m currently studying game art at Uni but would very much love to work in the animation or filming industry as an artist for those sectors as well as gaming can have a bit of a one track mind while animation film can be more all over the place in terms of inspirations and have sometimes more unique stories. At Chapman do you study different types of animation or is it just one? I’m currently interested in 2D, but I’d love to learn 3D as well but it’s not a necessity for me

I... i don't get it, back then i didn't even have the time to think about going to the gym... it's always getting food after class then on to library to stay the night for a project until morning, skip breakfast, go to class, go home, collapse and repeat.

Very neat! Thinking about switching majors to Animation and Illustration. Is this a difficult set of skills to master? Or do the teachers walk you through it slowly? Also, have you heard if it is difficult to get a job as an animation artist as a graduate?

It is challenging at first but if you have a solid foundation in the arts and are patient you should be fine. Getting a job post graduation all depends on what you accomplish while you are at school. Making good contacts with your professors and classmates as well as internships are extremely important. Also it depends on the quality of your films/reel/portfolio/website. Animation is a super rewarding major though once you start making progress! Let me know what you decide :)

@@AlexGordillo101 Thx for sharing Alex! My Grandson at 15 yrs old Senior in HIGHSCHOOL is about Animation! He Loves to Draw & an Awesome Actor! However next year at 16 yrs old he'll be attending College for STEM COMPUTER SCIENCE (which I think he won't be truely happy at because he eat drink & sleep art and not into Computers like that yikes! I have No IDEA why he wont Pursue what he's a Natural at. Sigh! Oops don't see any Black Guys/ KIDS? But hey. Already he's the Only Black KID in STEM amongst Asians and he's Vice President tehehe! TBH, I'm only interested in 3D animation that doesn't talk about cartoons and stuff, but those CGIs like in AOT that mainly focuses in mature images

Yeah I want to go into 3D animation and I don't really want to work on children's cartoons, I want to work on more realistic and mature animations similar to live action pg-13 movies. I wish there was more animated movies in that category and change the idea that animation is only for kids. I already have ideas for a series that I would want to do once I actually learn and get good at 3D animation.

I really want to go to art college and study animation. But all my family members told me I would starve because the payment is horrible and they overwork you. So my question is... is it true that with animation you can't really earn enough money to make a living..? And my other question would be.. If you got a job would you have to always go to a studio and be present there while working or can you stay at home and do your work and then send it to the people that you're working to? Because where I live, the city is really far from here. And I plan to continue living here but for that.. I would need a job that I can do from home.
