Down Syndrome is a condition in which a person has an extra chromosome. Chromosomes are small “packages” of genes in the body that determine how a baby's body forms and functions as it grows. A baby is typically born with 46 chromosomes but babies with Down Syndrome have an extra copy of one of these chromosomes, chromosome 21. In this absolute documentary, we see the stories of 3 people living with Down Syndrome as they overcome hurdles, strive for independence, and take part in extraordinary events.

Can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed this video. Because of the age differences in Mauve, Laura, and Joe, it’s so interesting to watch their development. Lovely “stars” and parents and Joe’s instructor. All so patient and kind. I was smiling all through the video. Thank you for sharing 🦋🦋🦋

It is a terrible thing the hospital did in the way they told Maeve's mum. I'm a SEN teacher. With proper support of family and school all children can learn and have a wonderful life. How dare the registrar speak to the mum in a way that terrifies new parents and steals joy! I hope the registrar got educated so this doesn't keep happening.

Beautiful and inspiring video. I am so happy that these wonderful people have such an amazing support system around them and are loved. They are proving that although they may have a disability, they are capable of so much more than people give them credit for.

My cousin has Downs, - he’s more athletic than me, he was born before they did the genetic testing in Canada, and the drs told my aunt and uncle to have another child as soon as possible to help him with his development. But I am proud of him and all he’s achieved thus far.

What I love is the understanding now that people with Down’s syndrome can do a lot more than what people used to believe that they could. I’m watching these three individuals and their families, I saw that they are believed in, and supported. That’s awesome.

Looks like the Down syndrome effects vary by individuals. Some higher functioning than the others. Some so much more effected negatively and nearly unable to learn and function near normally. Most are delightful individuals. Very nice 👍 😊

What makes me angry that downs is “ glorified “ mainly because most of the time they are so capable of most things. Going to school with some assistance and manage their life very well!! And that is nothing more awesome than that!! ❤️ But is not all rainbows and unicorns!!, many have serious health issues! Many can’t live alone, never independent . This is people With is a syndrome, they are not accessories! ! Not sweet kitties or adorable purse dogs. They are not happy all the time!!! (happy clappy ) But there getting are next to nothing about people telling about the struggles and hardships!! They are instantly told they are heartless and criticized !! Why?. As I said there is not just sunshine stories! Even if anyone trying to deny that.

I agree, however I feel like this documentary is very honest about the health issues that come with downs syndrome. One of the girls has sleep apnea for instance. I suggest you take a look at a KZbin channel called raising Autumn. It’s run by a mom of a non-verbal girl with downs syndrome and autism. The mom, Audrey, says this constantly. Her daughter is not always happy. People with special needs can be happy, sad, angry and everything in between!

Life without Downs is no different. There are struggles, illness, behavior changes in all people and having children is never all rose and lollipops no matter what.

It seems to me mostly older parents have the Down syndrome babies. In general. Waiting too long to have a baby, or it’s their last baby, trying for a girl or a boy baby. I am guessing of course from my own observations, I don’t know if it’s a fact. Perhaps the older eggs produce such children. Don’t know if it’s the same from the males since their spermatozoa are newly produced. I think it may be so as well, since physically they are also older, their cells are. These downy babies are so loving individuals, in general, so if they are properly educated, they can be and will be productive citizens. Hopefully they do not fall under the evil people who takes advantage of them. I’d worry about that a lot if I was a parent of a Down syndrome child. The world is a frightening place, after all.

Yes, if the mum’s older, the risk of an extra chromosome increases, not only Downs syndrome but also trisomy 13 or trisomy 18.

It's wonderful to see how much these parents love Maeve, but at the same time you can also see that they sometimes have to stop themselves from telling their true feelings. They love her, but they're very careful with admitting how difficult their lives are because of her.
