Funeral directors and all deathworkers are SO IMPORTANT in society! We do not thank these people enough. Thank a funeral director, mortician, embalmer, cemetery operator, and any funeral home staff today

Especially when they kidnap your bank account just because you’ve lost a loved one and that loved one deserves the “best”. That’s code for, you’re emotional so of course it’s ok to rip you off. I’m NOT saying they shouldn’t be evenly compensated but from personal experiences, some people just suck and of course I’m NOT saying that they’re all this way. I just can’t stand it when people, especially “professionals” use your emotions against you in the name of financial gain.

@@jem117 last time I checked it was from anywhere 5,000 to 20,000 depending on how big the funeral is but I'm not much of a specialist on this so I'm probably wrong on this but they do steal your money death is not a cheap business

@@OlinKreutzRules I'm a funeral service operative and I completely agree. We all agree with you. But a vast majority of us in the industry don't have a say in the pricing. That's really up to the owner. We make minimum wage and yet we're the ones removing dead bodies from homes, dressing them, putting them in the coffins, delivering the coffins to different branches, driving the hearses, limosines and pall bearing. Our embalmers, grave diggers, arrangers and a vast majority of our directors have no say in it either. Just the fat cats who sit back in their offices and don't have to lift a finger. So it's a tough job for us but we do acknowledge that families are being charged far too much. We don't like it either.

Ms. Star thank you for taking the time to view this "Day In The Life" with me as the funeral director. There is sadness in my voice and heart! Helping grieving families is humbling every day and does become a lifestyle. The most valuable take away for me from funeral service is to appreciate each day, each person, each breath and every relationship in your life because life is so precious and delicate that it could all change in an instant. Be aware of who you are as a person and always grow mentally and emotionally. Please do not feel content with a normal day to day routines. Be bold and be brave try something new or say hello to a stranger! Life is beautiful and death can be too.

I’m always interested to know what bigger city cremation percentages are. I am a funeral director in a small southern town and we are at an almost 50% cremation rate. I imagine that would be significantly higher in a bigger city. Makes me wonder if this percentage keeps climbing, soon there won’t be any profit for funeral homes unless cremation rates go up to match burial rates. If that doesn’t happen, I think that funeral homes will start closing their doors in record numbers and the state will end up having to take over death care.

I was not sad nor depressed. Once you work in the death care industry for some time it becomes part of who you are. I really am a feeler and can relate to families experiencing difficult losses. In this industry there are certain words you take out of your vocabulary along with tone of voice. I didn't want to be to excitable when working with grieving families. You can say it became a part of my DNA. I thank you for the comment and taking the time to watch this Day In The Life.

She may not be the one actually fucking you over in your time of grief and sadness, but she's 100% there watching it happen, and holding down your arms.... Bottom line here people, it's super expensive to die, and those of us without a plan who don't have one duck in a row, your spouse/family will be paying through their nose at the worst possible time. Can't make the payment? That's okay! Funeral home's will place a levy against your vehicle, home, bank account and make your SSDI/VA/Retirement and or any GOVT. assistances will have a BIG part of it coming to them monthly.
