Near Newport Pembrokeshire here - Phenomenal Spring crop and almost non existent summer crop. My 6 year old son and I love watching your videos. Thanks for making them.

That is some lovely calves you got yourself there. A pleasure to have them and not bad for the freezer either later on 😄 I have just finished extracting my summer honey. I would say that I got roughly 50% of what I got last year, which sounds worse than it is as I also got a spring crop for the first time in many, many years. Adding everything up I estimate that I will still be short of roughly 25% though. With the Himalayan Balsam and the clover giving more or less nothing this year due to poor weather it will be a long haul until the Ivy starts up and the bees will be needing a fair bit of feeding in between, particularly with the weather being as poor as it is. On the positive side I don't think I need to worry too much about swarming for the rest of this season.

i love these day in the life videos, the calves look happy and healthy👍. I Just drove down to an apiary to remove supers halfway through the video, 12 hives and only pulled 9 supers about half full each😥. I did pull the spring crop in May at least, and i've boosted my hive count from 20 to 50ish and grafted all my own queens this year so at least it's not been total right off . I hope there is a great ivy flow this year🤞

Great video, thanks, much appreciated. I never took any spring crop due to plans to relocate and by late June I had an average of 5 supers per 14x12 hive full, with the odd double brood even higher. Last week’s inspections shocked me as I had 2 to 3 supers completely empty, with just drawn comb per hive, the bees were hungry and had eaten loads. I'm now rethinking my harvest strategy, I bought a lot of sugar knowing the price was going to rise so I can feed them through the dearth however, I'm considering leaving more stores than usual. Most of all like most beekeepers I'm playing this by ear and reassessing every inspection.

Sugar and other things have gone up, but honey hasn't. I started to feed my bees 2 weeks ago.

The bee keeping supplies will take off I’m sure. You got to diversify to make enough with bee keeping. It’s a hard day. Satisfying to know your own efforts are paying off.

I had 2 big colonies (I only have 10 hives) so I left a half full super on them and removed the excluder so they could continue to filll it ( feeding as necessary)and then go through the winter as a brood and a half.

Rapeseed sets like concrete. I'm surrounded by it in the spring. Get it off as soon as they are full and put the wet supers straight back on.

Sorry to hear it’s a mixed bag of a year. I’m in the same boat spring crop was best ever but the summer is a write off. Fighting to get queens mated and scrounge honey. Still loads of work to do but bring on 2024 😅
