Josh, I want you to know how much I appreciate when you do these videos that show the good, the bad, and the ugly of your business. I find it extremely refreshing to find people who are putting it out there to show that your work is not all cupcakes and rainbows. People understand the freedom of not having a micromanager trying to talk them into being as cheap of an employee as they can get. People don't understand how much responsibility you have to take to get that freedom. More importantly, they don't understand the amount of self control it takes. Super thankful for these kind of videos and you.

You might be able to donate the trombone to your local school district. Often times they have folks that can repair instruments and then get them into the hands of kids that normally wouldn’t be able to afford them. If it can’t be repaired, it could also be parted out, the case used, etc.

Absolutely great description of reselling I did not quit to resell I was let go and I am doing it for survival and do about 2k gross a month and scratch out just enough to get by and I live in poor Mississippi but feel blessed with the opportunity

Thanks, Josh, for your helpful advice to those thinking of becoming a reseller. You make it look easy and fun, when, in reality, it can be anything but easy and fun. You must have drive and discipline to build a business - of any kind. It would be foolish to think you can quit your day job and dive off into reselling. Not to say it can’t be built into a great job - as you have done. But you need to be careful and look before you leap. So thanks for giving that perspective from one who knows the reality and challenges of reselling. Part time might be a great way to try it out without jeopardizing your financial well-being! Good luck to both you and Haley!

I am retired and needed something to do in our home, so it is part time for me and often difficult to source items to sell. No bins within a 2 hour drive from Central Georgia. Another difficult hurdle is getting a following without exposure, so I am just trying to buy quality items and sell at a reasonable price. Slowly, but surely I am selling items and I am determined I can do this, and succeed just being part-time! I have learned a lot about reselling from the smart, determined couple I watch, you guys! Thanks for all the info! Glad you are home Hayley and hope your mission trip was a success.

I agree completely with your assessment at the end. I resell as a supplemental income to social security. I don’t work reselling full time, and only in the last few months do I feel like I am getting a good return. What reselling does for me is to give me a healthy savings so if I need money for household repairs, car repairs, healthcare, I don’t need to rely on credit cards and accruing debt. And all resellers I know that work it as a full time job also have KZbin and other revenue streams.

Totally agree that going full time is tough. I have been reselling since 1982, when I was in my early 20s. I have done a lot of different things in my reselling adventures. I started off by doing flea markets, having an antique booth, doing antique shows every weekend. In the late 80s I developed, owned & operated a 9,000 sq ft multi-dealer antique mall in a suburb of Minneapolis. I started selling on Ebay in 1998, before anyone actually owned a personal digital camera. I moved to selling primarily vintage on Etsy about 8 or 9 years ago. My husband is a General Contractor so we have always had another income. Heath insurance is a huge expense. Now, our major source of income is our investments. I love being a reseller. It takes a lot of time, effort & hard work.

Welcome home Hailey ! I hope your trip was wonderful, I’m sure it was. Josh I agree that becoming a full time re seller is not easy, especially now that so many people are doing re selling. Part time sounds much more reasonable and using that money to get out of debt, then personally I would use it for boosting my monthly savings. ❤
@brroookkeee2 ай бұрын
Recalling full-time seems very tough! Especially how inconsistent it can be throughout the year and needing a ton of space, shipping supplies, paying taxes, etc. I started re-selling very part-time 2 years ago now and started as a hobby but knew it could make me some money. I save all the profit I make and when I got a little cushion in that account, I started only using the profit money to purchase more inventory! I love how I only source out of that account now and keep building the income slowly. I have 370 items listed currently and a 72 day total. Once it becomes not fun anymore if ever, I’ll stop. I work full-time 10/mo out of the year as an instructional assistant at a school so now is the time I have the most free time in the summer!

The high school might take the trombone. Our hs band teacher fixes the instruments and uses instruments like this that for 5th grade entry band class. My son played the trombone and played one like this until he got to middle school then upgraded. If the band teacher can't fix it, they usually know someone who can.

I'm full time but my situation is different. Our home is payed off and we have zero personal debt. Our ebay store nets 3000-3500 a month right now. My wife watches a few kids that go to our kids school - so that helps too. If i had a mortgage, car loans, student loans, etc....We couldn't do what we do - at least not yet. We would have had to wait until the store was netting 5.5-6k a month. While I will get to that level, its slow and steady.

Finally a reseller telling 100% truth, after fees, after taxes, after gas, after health insurance, after packing materials etc etc did they (other resellers) really make $100 profit on a $5 item. Probably not and that’s why your channel is so important because the truth is the reality of a reseller. ❤ fix the trombone and donate to a school. Just my thoughts.

I absolutely agree that this is NOT sufficient income for a full-time job. It is a side hustle. I really need to start tracking my exact hours, but I'm guestimating I put in 4 -6 hrs a day 6 days a week, but then my Saturdays are always a solid 12-14 hr day doing yard sales, then listing. I make an average of $1800-$2000 a month BEFORE taxes, but after fees and expenses. Not terrible, but there are better money producing options out there. I don't entirely hate it, but biggest problem is I feel stuck. I have over 1000 items in inventory. If I stop listing they DO NOT sell. Took just a 4 day vacation last month, and my sales plummeted to less than half and still struggling. It's a tough business! I do it so I can remain a stay at home mom. Thank you for your candor. Love you two!
@brush4122 ай бұрын
It totally is sufficient income for a full time job lol you haven’t seen Technsports and his group have you? There are thousands of resellers making full time income and bringing their spouses home or are able to stay with their kids.
@rachelh52112 ай бұрын
@@brush412It really depends on the location of the reseller and their current financial situation. As a reseller hobbist, I live in Central CA where the cost of living is higher than most other parts of the country, yet it's not nearly as high as in the larger cites of CA. We also paid off our home quite a few years ago and have no debt. If we were to buy this same home at today's prices, we'd be paying several thousand per month just on a mortgage payment, let alone any other potential debt like auto or student loans. Also, sourcing items worth reselling is very challenging in our area due to the lower socioeconomic demographics and high prices at thrift stores. We have no Goodwill Bins. I'm continually amazed at what Josh and Haley find in their area, as well as the cheaper prices. They also have a lower cost of living there. I just don't think anyone can make the blanket statement that "anyone can make a fulltime living doing reselling."
