Brother Francisco: Thank you so much for these presentations. They bring back many happy memories of my own former religious formation as a Capuchin Franciscan seminarian and later priestly life. As you may know, Capuchins live what we call "the mixed life"--living lives of prayerful contemplation within our friaries as well public lives in our ministries outside the friary. From what I have gathered by listening to other previous presentations, the monks at St. Vincent Archabbey seem to live a similar "mixed" lifestyle. The only exception, perhaps, being that your fraternity lives a more classically monastic life and that your daily public ministries tend to not extend too far from the abbey itself. I look forward to viewing more of your presentations in the future. Happy New Year, Brother, and to all those at St. Vincent Archabbey!

And novices get to know more about the abbey than even the senior monks. Once, while vacuuming the chapter, I found a beautiful, large wall crucifix behind a stall, leaning against the wall. Later, I mentioned that to a senior monks. Turned out, it was a significant gift to the Abbott which, he hung outside of his office; and, it suddenly disappeared. It was missing for several months until, it was found hiding away. Father Abbott was so glad to get it back. A lot of grunt work but, we learned about the house, the Gospel and the monastic way of life. Pax

What an awesome year! As an oblate novice (from September 2021 to November 2022) I was blessed with a full workbook compiled by the Abbess Emeritus of the Benedictine nuns of Virginia Dale Colorado for oblate novices plus twenty four podcasts for oblate novices by Prior Peter Funk OSB. It was awesome! Great formation - the RB is a proven guide for Gospel living. Blessed be God forever!

Very interesting and informative. When going out in the "real" world, do you wear your habits? How do you deal with a member of the community you dislike? What happens to older members, especially those who become feeble of mind?
@allgoodinthebrotherhood17 күн бұрын
@rutha1464 for your first question, check my video where I talk about that very thing! 2) lots of prayer, especially in patience and humility, and then if necessary have an honest conversation. 3) ws have a fully staffed infirmary and care facility within the monastery itself, so elderly monks are taken care

Super interesting! I have a question-a catholic priest at the church my family went to when i was a kid talked sometimes about “retiring” and joining an order (i assumed he meant something like what you’re doing). Would he have had to go through this whole process of applying and then becoming a novitiate, taking the simple vows, in order to take his solemn vows? Or would he have been able to take his solemn vows at a more accelerated pace, as he was already a priest his whole life? Thanks!!
@allgoodinthebrotherhood8 күн бұрын
@audreym2004 if he was accept as a member then he would have to go through the whole process like everyone else. He might have been referring to the idea of going to live in a community after retirement without taking vows. Living in common without becoming a monk. That's happened before.

@lindsey3088 there are monks assigned as helpers to novices call socii, they spent time with me, which was great. I also did spend some more time with the juniors for connecting

As the Superior General of the Fratelli Della Croce, a Benedictine Fraternal Order of Priests, our Novitiate is three years. I’ve been a Monk for 12 years and my election as Abbot and Superior General were a total surprise. When I was a Novice I looked forward to being a Parish Priest and solemn vowed Monk. When I was elected Abbot, I just about passed out. But when I was again elected to serve as Superior General, I knew that this is where God called me.

I can't stand this. Do you really think youre showing yourself and what you stand for with any class and respect ? Do you really think your thumbnail is appropriate ? Youre attitude ? Its all vanity. This isn't supposed to be something "cool." Have a little more respect for what youre representing. Its not just you its many of the "new" channels that are being like this. Believe it or not. The Devil is doing this. He fighting for some detachment to exist in whatever way possible.

I have been a Benedictine Oblate for 30 years. I think the useful thing here is to strengthen these brothers efforts in prayer. This isn’t 1925, and times are different now.

These presentations are helpful and informative particularly in explaining the formation process. Our Creator gives us the heart AND the intellect to worship Him in all forms.The monastic form, discipline of worship, and charism, in most cases, will take a lifetime and is an absolute blessing. @@danielyoung5137 It needs to be 1925. We are regressing in maturity. And that will weaken the underlying structures that hold everything together. Trust me.

@@brjimbo1 I'm all in favor of the content. It's "how" things are being presented. It is childish and quite frankly almost immature. There needs to be more respect if I can give it a word. We shouldn't be chasing the attitudes, personas, temperaments of social media etc. We should be completely detached from that. Just look for videos and presentations from 10 to even 5 or 8 years ago. That maturity was still there. Now ? It's at the brink of not being there at all. And that in my opinion needs to be addressed.
