Day in the life of a Super Yacht Deck/Stew

As “deck/stew” in a super yacht crew, my Day-to-day duties sure seem to change a lot. Here is a day in my life as a super yacht deck/stew (on a chill day in the South of France)

Not every day.. but yes, on that particular day I did. Deck/stew is a unique position that has to be fluid. I am the one most likely to be chosen for random side tasks.

@@anatolyyurkin6635 how much experience do you have using a dishwasher? They are far more efficient and eco friendly. Any detergents or soaps needed for a dishwasher are less than with hand washing. Unless you aren't using any soap when hand washing??? A commercial dishwasher will also heat and sterilize the dishes which is important.

When I worked on a yacht, I would print out copies of us dollars and print them out on card stock I went over with a piece of 600 grit sandpaper to give it that money feel. Then when end of season came and you were on your last nerve, sleep deprived, sore, and just blehhhh...I would take out the pile of money equal to what my tips were at that point, throw it on the bunk and then roll around in it. We'll not really, I did it once and it seemed silly, but our chief stewardess did it and swore by it. I did start drawing though. That was really calming. Our captain had a very similar look to Abraham Lincoln so I would decorate $5 bills as mementos for the guests with modified Abe being the captain, thanking them for coming on board. People would tip me like €20 for a 5 dollar bill. I found that art was really useful in getting people out of slumps. Might help you if you ever need it

Love your work girl! We all know that the best work day is a busy, non-stop day, it goes so fast! But there is always the need for personal quality time. My dream is to own an expedition superyacht, to cruise the world with family and friends but I have a distaste for how the crew are treated. It doesn't seem fair to me! I don't like the separation between "guests" and paid crew. I don't like the cramped living conditions for crew below decks, at least you should have your own cabin. And when you are not working, the boat should be yours to enjoy. You should have a seat at the dinner table, you should be able to invite family and friends aboard for a week or two. I may be a nutter but I think the chef is the most important person aboard but I don't wish for a chef to pander to my needs 24/7. When we go ashore, have a day or two off boat, the boat needs a couple of caretakers but why can't the crew come too. I should be able to look across the table in a cafe, trattoria or taverna, a 5 star restaurant and say to the boat's chef that I like that dish! Make a note! I'd be interested if you would see anything wrong with this.

It varies with each boat and program. This particular program, I was the more underpaid and overworked than any other boat I’ve been on, honestly. There were times I went 6 weeks without a day off

Hey there!! Different boats, different bosses, captains, programs, etc.. they all have different rules and requirements. I’d say go for any position on any boat. Some will avoid tattoos but tons don’t care!

I have yet to work on yacht that had a dive instructor as crew.. that's a great asset to have though! When we were in France and Italy, we would hire a dive instructor to come to the boat for our guests

Deck/Stew is the one person on board who can fill both departments if needed. Deckhand to help with exterior work and stewardess when the interior needs a hand. This boat had me 70% deck and 30% stew during the Mediterranean season
