That’s a shame, but as a woman who has been on the receiving end of many many men who have never been in the airline industry trying to tell me I’m doing my job wrong and/or how to do it better, I reserve the right to use the term :)

Because they are wrong, 99% of the time. Again, if you’ve never been in the airline industry and you’re trying to tell me how to do my job, you don’t know what you’re talking about. And I never said women can’t be the same way, that’s why women are called Karen’s. I’ve dealt with plenty of those too.

Such a cool video to watch! I did not have a job as a gate agent at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport but in the past I worked for Seattle's Best Coffee in the airport and I also worked in the accounting department for host Marriott and my dad worked ramp for Continental so the airport life was big life that pie miss a lot. No worries at all! So you don’t need to do anything until we start to board! Find your gate, maybe verify with the gate agent to make sure you’re where you need to be (the display will tell you where the gate is flying to, what the departure time is, and the flight number....all of this info should match up with what’s on your boarding pass). So just take a seat and relax! You’ll get a plane seat assignment about 40 minutes before boarding time) Then just listen to what your gate agent tells you! :) for first time flyers, it’s usually okay to board when they call for zone 1. As you board the gate agent will scan your boarding pass and hand you your seat assignment. And then you’re good to go! :D it’s super easy and stress free, I promise :) good luck and have fun!!!

Hi thanks for making this! Have been considering this type of position and was wondering a couple of extra things: Can you choose your shift? How long do you go in hours and can you pick part time if needed? I noticed you started in the 5am hour and were still there at noon. If I'm starting that early I'd hope to be off way before that lol. Also in some other videos some people have very specific uniforms to wear for that position and some seem to dress casual like it appears you are here. Are there hard and fast rules about that? Thanks!

When you apply for the job are you applying for a certain airport? or do they put you where the current need is at?
@averageems
@averageems 4 жыл бұрын
You are applying for a certain airport. Usually the only way for you to work in another state without actually residing there is if you’re a flight attendant - they’re usually based out of major hubs like Chicago, New York, Minneapolis, LA and will have you fly to your base airport for work.

Maybe I will run into you at MSP sometime! Was just recently hired as Delta ACS seasonal. I do have a couple questions for you, though. At the time of this video were you not required to wear a uniform? It seems as if your attire is casual and wondered if that was going to pose any issues down the road. My other question for you is.. how is security different than TSA? Am I still required to take my shoes off? Laptops on a belt? I appreciate all your input!!!!
@dannywilder5839
@dannywilder5839 3 жыл бұрын
I just watched your Q&A video and see that you no longer work for said air line! Oops!
@averageems
@averageems 3 жыл бұрын
Hello! I am wearing a uniform. :) They've changed it over the years, but at the time of this video, we had several shirt options to choose from; what I'm wearing in the video was one of them! Now we all wear purple and white. Security is not as intense as TSA. Since you've already been vetted by the airline, you aren't required to take shoes off. You scan your SIDA badge and scan your programmed finger print to verify your identity. Belts are taken off, simply because of the metal buckle. Everything else just goes through the xray scanner like normal, you walk through a metal detector and you're good! Really quick and easy. Good luck! I am no longer an employee, so the chances of seeing me are a little slimmer. :(

@averageems
@averageems 5 жыл бұрын
Hello! Seasonal means you’ll only work during peak times. Usually this means during the summer and then during the holidays. My guess is they’ll start you on gate, as what you do on gate will also translate over to ticketing (rebooking passengers, tagging baggage, dealing with oversold flights). Good luck and definitely let me know how it goes!!

Loved the Chick-fil-A joke.😄 I'm interested in working in aviation and being a gate agent looks fun and challenging, but I've heard the pay is pretty low. Are there ways to get promoted to higher paying positions if you start as a gate agent? And would an operations agent be a step up in pay?
@averageems
@averageems 4 жыл бұрын
So depending on what airline you work for, pay will vary but there’s always room for advancement! Gate agent would go to red coat (delta’s title for supervisor) and then to management. Operations could be considered a step up, depending on experience. I’m not entirely familiar with the ops tower positions and pay rates.
