New to your channel. Great content! I've been an owner/manager of an ALF for 9 years and the manager for 5 years before that. Definitely the most rewarding and emotionally taxing career that anyone could choose! Love it!

New Subie! I’ve basically binged all of your videos😂. Excellent content. I’m about 2 years out from opening my first RALF. Wishing you continued success on your journey! Btw, I’m a DPT and my husband is an RN so it’s really nice to watch someone from the medical field on this journey.

New channel I like. But I have so many questions. I have worked in assistant living. I have seen so much illegal activity its not funny. But you caught men when you said we are not medical. Working in an ALF- Assistant Living Facility has so many Gray areas. To many scopes are crossed. HCP- health care providers/CNA- Certified Nurses Aide. Are allowed to do to many things. Passing meds, wound care. Digital stimulation- It involves moving the finger or dil stick around in a circular motion inside the rectum. Emptying patients colostomy bags, Skin assessments & peg feeding. just to name a few. I could write a book on LAZY nurses. I'm so glad that this channel was created. Look forward to hearing from you.

Do you feel there is a high turnover rate for caregivers and as owners how do we minimize that? Do you think it's better to have only 1 or 2 full time or many that are part time?
@serg_lupescu5 жыл бұрын
There can be. The goal is to treat them right and compensate them for it! Depends on the level of care of the residents and how many residents you have.

Do you provide any benefits for caregivers (insurance, worker's comp)? How many hours and days/week are they working? Do you have back ups if needed?
@serg_lupescu5 жыл бұрын
Yes I do. They work 12 hour shifts through the week. Structured like a hospital. I do have backups if need be.

Can an ALF(Assisted Living) take my Mom's LINK card when they are already getting funded by the state with her SS check? My mother qualified for Medicaid and the state sent her a LINK card for groceries. She has no need for the groceries since she stays at the assisted living place. However, the facility asked for this LINK card stating that this would also go to help pay for her meals. This bit of information was never given to me in the beginning of applying for Medicaid for my mother. Is this common for facilities to do this?
@MrBiggharv5 жыл бұрын
Hey brother would you mind telling us how many of your residents are private pay and how many have a Medicaid waiver/or Medicare ? And also I know it's really personal but I'm really curious as to how much your home makes per year. I'm sure that varies depending on occupancy but maybe just an average if you could. I appreciate it sorry if I got too personal, I'm just really close to pulling the trigger on this thing and I don't know anyone else with a home
@serg_lupescu5 жыл бұрын
All my residents are private pay. Yeah that’s more of a personal question but your home can make more than 100k per year. I made over 100k and I wasn’t always at full occupancy. Hopefully that helps.
@MrBiggharv5 жыл бұрын
@@serg_lupescu thank you for the response I really do appreciate it. I hope I didn't offend you brotha. I was just was curious to see if people will actually private pay. I work in the medical field and most of the geriatric patients that I see can't afford private pay. Thank you again I really do appreciate it. Keep those vids coming. God bless.
@serg_lupescu5 жыл бұрын
You're welcome man! No, you're good. Completely get it, it's a common question that I get. People do pay privately but it just comes down to the area that you're in and doing some simple market analysis. You're welcome! I most definitely will man. Thank you for all the support! God bless you too.

How is board and care different than this? My friends are going to do one here in Cali
@serg_lupescu5 жыл бұрын
Can you elaborate more on that? What exactly are they doing?
@TrueEarth3695 жыл бұрын
They own and operate two home health care businesses and a hospice business. Now they want to buy a 4bedroom house and have two patients per room. They have several patients who are awaiting placement but no where to go. I told them of my plans to do a RCFE and they want to meet with me to discuss it more. Basically they can fill their house & my future house with clients that receive social security income. They are really supportive and encouraging me to do it with them ASAP. (I still see patients for them sometimes). They are calling it a “board and care” or something and that a license isn’t required.. so it may be different..
@serg_lupescu5 жыл бұрын
Oh okay. Yeah my aunt is doing something very similar to do that and it doesn’t require a license.
@TrueEarth3695 жыл бұрын
Ok. They sound very similar. Do you know why one requires a license and one doesn’t?

Where do you go to get licensed for medical or non-medical assisted living? I'm currently a Nurse 8 years and 18 years a cna. I'm in Memphis TN area
@serg_lupescu5 жыл бұрын
The way you do this is based on the state that you’re in. Each state will have different regulations and requirements regarding if you can get licensed as a non-medical or medical facility.

Is your MAR and TAR electronic or do you do paper documentation?
@serg_lupescu5 жыл бұрын
Paper documentation. Electronic can be a lot more convenient but from the ones I’ve seen, there’s still a lot of flaws in them which can be bad for state inspections. But I’ll eventually transition to electronic down the road.

As far as the medications do you pay for the cost of the meds or does the resident/POA?
@serg_lupescu5 жыл бұрын
Jasmine Sparks the residents insurance and than the POA pays for the copay of the medication
@jasminesparks87445 жыл бұрын
@@serg_lupescu Okay awesome! So I am an RN, and I was wondering if a member comes back from the hospital with orders for IV ABT, would you require the POA/ resident to hire an outside home health agency or would you take on the responsibility of administering the medication?
@serg_lupescu5 жыл бұрын
That's great! Now when it comes to IV's, here in the state of Arizona that resident should be going to a Skilled Nursing Facility and not a Residential Assisted Living Home. But in some cases you would have a Medical Home Health come administer that medication. RAL are consider non-medical so anything doing with IV's, etc you wouldn't be allowed to do.

Oh wow! Surprised you haven’t been snatched up yet. Of course! Go on the AZDHS website and look up all the homes in the zip code you want to work in, and call each of them! I’m sure there is an owner looking for a manager.

Great insight, but I have a question. You mentioned in a past video that you used a consulting firm to get yourself licensed. I believe you said it was about 2.5k for the service. We are unlicensed and would like to get licensed, but it seems like there are so many changes in state policies that it's a bit overwhelming to get prepared (e.g. fire sprinkler sytem, emergency generator, etc). In hindsight, do you think you could have got yourself licensed on your own or was the 2.5k expense worth every penny? My trainer for my administrator's cert also consults and "holds your hands" from applying for business license to getting your state mandated assisted living license in hand, but his fee is 4.5k. Worth it? Thanks
@serg_lupescu5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Honestly no, I didn't know what to expect and never have gone through the process so yeah the consulting is and was worth every penny. It is definitely worth it because once you go through it the first time you'll be able to do it on your own the second time and so on.
