It's a day in my life as an Orthodox Jewish mother of four! We start our day with my morning routine which included getting challah for Shabbat started plus making breakfast for the kids. Then I have a short chat with you to catch you up on life before making my bed with fresh new sheets and getting started on our homeschool day plus making the challah. After our homeschool was complete and the challah was baked, I worked on packing up some picnic lunches for us and we headed out to the park for an afternoon of playing with friends in the beautiful Texas weather. Around dinner time we got back in the car to head home and start riding down our day, but I was not done yet :) I definitely needed a break and a reset so I did that and then got ready to head out to a scarf sale (tichel / head cover / hair covering sale). It was so much fun and I got some beautiful pieces. After returning home for the night (and it was a late night for me!) I show you all what I purchased at the hair covering sale and then closed out the video so I could go to bed :) Thank you for watching this day in my Orthodox Jewish life!

Hey Chana! Another great vid. Two things: 1 I’d love to see a dedicated video of you “modelling” your new scarves and the styles you’ll wear them in. 2. Question: Do you ever pray/put intention into your food as you make it? I’m a kitchen witch and pagan so much of my spiritual experience takes place over the stove/ mixing bowl/ chopping board. You’ve shown and talked about some of the blessings over food and before you eat, snd I know so many rituals and traditions in Judaism focus around mealtimes so I was wondering if you ever knead blessings into your Challah, for example!

And to answer your food question, there is no obligation to pray or have intention on our food as we prepare it. That said, I 100% cook with love and want people to feel that love when I cook so if that counts as intention then yes it’s something that I personally do, but it’s not like a legal Jewish requirement if that makes sense

Shelf stable milk is a life saver in my house. We always have a case of those little cows milk ones that you have and also some of the shelf stable almond milk. It took a few years of always running out milk at the worst time for me to figure out that trick!

LOL I'm glad I'm not the only one who makes bread in a big metal bowl. Watching you dump that bag of flour into the bowl I started laughing and went "yup, that's how you do it when you're making more than a couple of loaves." I have the same bento boxes here and we use them a lot between activities and people taking their lunch to work.

Oh yes, I do 5 pounds of flour at a time and that big bowl is pretty much just my challah bowl :) how do you like the bento boxes? I put them in the washing machine and it kind of distorted the shape a little bit. But they still work and we still super love them.

I absolutely LOVE them although the "top rack dishwasher safe" thing is a bit of a misnomer since the plastic ones do warp if you put them in the dishwasher often. We have 25 or 30 of them all told so the kids like to "mix and match" pieces and I'm ok with that so long as all the pieces-parts make it back to the kitchen at the end of the day. It's kind of like the "Snackie drawer" I keep for the grandkids - it gives the kids some choices but not so many they may become overwhelmed. The kids love them too since it means their stuff that is supposed to be crisp (chips or crackers) or dry (sandwiches) don't wind up getting soggy and allows our kids who cannot stand food touching to separate their food so none of it is touching. We have older homeschoolers and part of their education plan is volunteer time at local homes for the aged, the food pantry, local summer festivals, church activities, story hour at the library, etc... which means they frequently need to take lunch with them.

@@reneematlock9657 ya I’ve started hand washing mine because of the warping. Luckily they still fit together though! Because other than that they are really perfect :) love so that y’all have so many and love so much how your older kids spend so much time volunteering!

@@jaroffireflies I started volunteering young and one of the things that we've required of our children since we started "collecting" them (we have 19 adopted or that we have permanent guardianship of and 3 of our own) is that they spend at least an hour a week volunteering somewhere. In the case of the youngest, they volunteer at the homes for the aged from about age 8. With the older ones they get to choose their volunteer activities and they have spread out all over our and now their communities. With 22 between the ages of 8 and 45 that's a whole lot of hands being held out to people who need a hand. I had to laugh when out oldest moved to China a few years ago for his job because they don't have homes for the aged *but* my grandkids have unofficially adopted several elderly "aunties" and "uncles" that they check up on and assist where they can. We made volunteering a part of their education because compassion and love towards others is in short supply these days in many communities so we started with people who have been "forgotten" by our society and moved out from there.

Oh Chana your joy and excitement at being out with friends and other women, your community and spending time for yourself, was so obvious. It made me feel a bit teary, in a good way, remembering how it was for me as a young Mum years ago, going out to sales nights. I have to say that I love all your choices and think that your delight in head covering is a beautiful witness. I dress modestly and in a feminine way and I know that others see that and your channel here does the same on a larger scale. I did laugh at you doing your prayer time with a baby as that was me, this morning with Miss Iris, 4. She was up earlier than I expected! We do what we have to do. You can save the old poof and get it fluffy again if the fabric is in decent shape. It takes a bit of work and a trip to a craft store and buying a bag of pillow stuffing first. You need to hand wash the poof and let it air dry completely, then you can very carefully unpick a seam to remove the current fluff. Pull every bit of the fluff out and carefully restuff with the pillow stuffing. Try not to crush the stuffing, which is way more difficult than it sounds. 😂 Use more than you think you need. Sew the seam and there you have it, one restored poof!

Your lunches are amazing. Such variety and fun. A far cry from my kid's lunches - bologna or P, B & J with a piece of fruit in brown paper bags. Even their teachers asked why I didn't give them something else but that is all they ever asked for or would eat; anything else was brought back home uneaten! The challah was beautiful! I bake a lot of bread, but have never tried a braided loaf - I am not sure I could do the braid. The headcoverings are beautiful! I admit I have a couple (or more, ahem…) of her tichels. She carries such beautiful things.
