Hey guys, I see a lot of comments saying “she does no work” or “show us what you actually code and not other things”. There is a form called an NDA which restricts me from speaking or showing intellectual property of the company I’m working for. Showing such internal tools or code would be grounds for termination of employment. Please understand that even if I showed you my screen I’d have to blur things out. Also here is my latest video about SWE Expectation VS Reality! kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4TUpnWHqtSSbZY

@Jared Dudley Yeah. The coding we did at my university for CS was minimal. If I hadn't had any other experience, I'd know next to nothing about programming even though I was pretty good at every coding class. CS isn't really about coding though, that's what most people don't seem to understand. Coding was actually the easiest part.

You got it all wrong. I've been a developer for over a year in London. I'm telling you 20% is meetings, 30% is programming and the other 50% is staring at your code wondering what to eat and why you code won't work and then noticing you missed a semi-colon or something like that

Actually sounds like a really laid-back and pleasant work environment, that's really nice to see, I'm happy for you on that account. Even though I know it isn't all plain-sailing and kickbacks, as your coding struggles showed. At my 2nd to last job I had to get up at 5am every day, including weekends and I would work from then until around 2-3:30 pm and then leave one job and go to my 2nd job and work till around 7-9pm (as needed) except weekends, then I just had around 8-10 hours at the one job. Then I slink off home, collapse into bed and repeat. I managed this for 3 1/2 years then I got burnt out and changed careers and left both jobs, but then I had to leave my new job last year because of mental health issues following another breakdown. I then spent the end of last year to 2020 as I write now unemployed on disability, as I found I was never as well as I thought I was, but I kept some extra revenue through painting and selling miniatures (Warhammer though not just that) and then I started doing some minor IT course for an entry-level tech job (most likely helpdesk and something like software engineering would be a ridiculous dream since I'm not particularly bright). I'm not sure why I'm telling people all this on the internet, but I saw this video and thought you seemed like a pleasant and charming human being. Things might occasionally be tough, but you come across as resilient, I'm sure you will/are doing well.

To make your package installable via Homebrew, you put it in a GitHub repo and create a release. Then you create a tap, a repo containing at least one formula. The formula is a Ruby file pointing to a downloadable tarball of the package, with instructions on how to build and install it.When a user downloads your package, the tarball is saved to /Library/Caches/Homebrew. It gets unzipped and, depending on the formula, parts of the package are copied to /usr/local/Cellar//. This directory, in the user’s cellar, is called a keg. To make writing formulae easier, you can use variables for directory locations. For example, bin.install foo will create /usr/local/Cellar///bin/foo, use chmod to make sure foo is executable, and create a symlink from /usr/local/bin/foo to foo in the cellar.

@Zirnz
@Zirnz 4 жыл бұрын
Glomo Not even close. The range is $30-$50/hr at uber. Facebook pays their interns $8400/month which works out to be $49/hr if they work 40 hours a week. $38/hr as an intern is a high number; your average Americans in a govt or state job are lucky to get $38/hr.

I am a software engineer too and my personal advice would be: not record snippets of code (in my multinational company this is not a good thing) because you can be "punished" afterwards. The recording of the office is not a problem as long as you don't show sensitive information like papers, code, meeting notes, emails, etc

Lunch break timings and sneaking texts at work. Those make sense in a factory or entry-level manual labor job but feel out of place in a software engineering profession. Most jobs I've heard of don't care what you do or if you take a million breaks as long as the work gets done accurately on schedule.

I love this video and your job looks so awesome! I just started learning how to code :> Quick question tho, do you ever tire out from coding everyday? I know software engineering is a difficult job so I was wondering how you manage to handle the constant work and stress (plus male dominated environment)

MysticSone♡ i don’t tire out because I see it as problem solving! It’s like a puzzle I want to solve. I get frustrated sometimes but coding itself isn’t ever boring. There is a lot of stress especially if you’re in a hyper growth company or a startup, but it’s not too daunting because you set out small goals to reach the end larger goal. Also yes the environment is definitely heavily male dominated but my team is so great!! They do a great job, whether it’s subconscious or conscious, of making me feel valued and my opinion feel important. I never ever feel lesser than and I have also always been comfortable around guys! I always vibe with their demeanor more

@@rajab4187 you'll have to apply? anyway WeWork is a company that provides shared workspaces, so i worked for a company that was a tenant at WeWork, not directly under them :) if you've got your internship accepted then i don't see why you cant apply for a short term visa..
