Awe, Amy what I see is a little boy who is getting so tall and losing his little boy look. Having T1 will make him such a responsible person. He has learned self care from such an early age. It takes such meticulousness. You are all doing a great job! Love the hair!

Loved Andy's guest appearance. Thanks for making these videos. As I personally don't know anyone with type 1, I work in an inpatient behavioral health hospital where pts are and I have learned so much from your videos. Even the latest technology I can understand conversations with them now.

Considering getting my son a pump this summer when school is out, he has been hating the shots lately. Not sure how he will feel with the dexcom plus a pump being on his body. Love your Type 1 Tuesday videos! Henry is such a good kid and you are such a great mom!

I love T1 tuesdays! I have been struggling with food and fitting in lately. Do you think that it is worth eating higher carb meals and then having higher numbers as a result, just you can fit in with Your peers? For example maybe not knowing how many carbs exactly is in a certain meal. Or having something your friends are having that you know is going to rise your sugars? My body is affected at lower highs and now I’m starting to have some increased pressure in my eyes. I would like to know your opinion. Thanks!

I think it's a matter of knowing how your body responds to food. We have really tight control so he never gets crazy of control with food.. Sometimes at parties etc but in general he's pretty good. We feel like it's worth it. I let him have hot lunch lunch and the school snack cart etc. However, next year we aren't doing snack cart but we will still allow hot lunch. I never make sweets and we never eat dessert unless it's a special occasion but that's not just him.. It's all of us. It's tough.

Hi, my son is 11 years old and was only diagnosed in December 2018 so we're still new at this. He will be getting an Omnipod in July so we can get used to it before secondary school. My son's been told to jab before eating then leave it 3 hrs before he has another jab. Do you guys do this even if he's high? And when you say adding your son's temp basal is this adding his carbs? Do you adjust whenever needed? And as I've said before we're still new at this but the last 4 months have felt like forever!! Thanks if you can help clear up a couple of things for me x Jane x

Yes, when we were in shots we had to wait 3 hours between corrections. With the pump you can correct whenever you want. It's so nice. Temp basal means stopping the insulin. When you go on a pump you only use fast acting insulin so you have a small amount of basal running 24/7. If he's dropping, we stop basal. It will get easier. You'll get into a new normal.

Do you subtract fiber from the carb count? That what I was told to do because the fiber hits slower than the carbs.

Years ago we did. That's how they taught us but they told us they don't do that anymore so we stopped.

How do you handle sick days when his numbers are all over the place?

His numbers aren't always all over the place.. We have days that are pretty stable etc. But when we sick with a cold his numbers are usually crazy high so we give one and a half correction the first time or we give a shot with one and a half more interim insulin. When he has the stomach bug that's when it's really hard... And even weeks after.. It's like his body doesn't absorb the sugar so he's low. It's always a guessing game really. Hope that helps a little.
