Love the hustle!! Building out my own van right now - sooo looking forward to maybe one day moving out of my rented apartment for good (probably not in my current van tho🥲). Also super cool that you work at the airport! Used to drive a forklift around Zurich Airport a couple years ago✌🏼

Really nice to see more people making it happen. I just moved into a travel trailer and work full-time+ so I can save money to build an earthen home and farm next year or so. It's tough, even tougher in a smaller space, but not paying rent and bills and getting to live the life we want is so worth it! For me, it is more about living eco-friendly using solar power, recycling greywater, and growing my own food - but I see so much overlap with vanlifers who value life experience, travel, and the natural world too

This lifestyle offers so much! There’s so much freedom and it’s so easy to be environmentally friendly. I love that though this lifestyle is extremely glamorized on social media, it brings a platform for holding people accountable to pick up after themselves!

Frozen water tank issue: I saw a post a few years back on thesamba about insulating the stock water tanks then running a coolant line thru a copper coil into the tank to heat it up and to give you “free” hot water. Slap a valve on it so you can turn the coolant flow off and on. Might be a useful mod for you. Will also give you a but of a heat battery to keep your van warmer.

Nice hanging with friends and showing them the town! Can you split the heater ducting to cover the water tank? Maybe some of that Great Stuff blown into the tank cavity?

I was thinking about doing that. It would be cheap and it would probably work! Definitely worth a try

I've lived in my Vanagon for 6 years. A 'micro studio' (approx 200 sq ft) in Seattle is $1,200 a month. Basic rent for 6 years is $86,400.

That’s not bad for Seattle! About the same as living in a vanagon😂

Do you have to deal with rust issues associated with salted roads there. It is a big issue for old Toyota trucks.

Ive seen some of your other videos where you disperse camp. Do you find that to be the best option for the area or do you stealth camp or meet friends who let you park in a driveway? How difficult is it finding an overnight spot in a town where the billionaires have forced out the millionaires and will get butt hurt if you park within sight of their mansion?
@Sebastianstonum12 күн бұрын
I’ll make a video on this. The good thing here is during the busy seasons (summer and winter) the tourists outweigh the locals so it’s easy to blend in and get away with stuff. Sure some spots aren’t aloud but as long as you aren’t obvious about it or stand out then it’s pretty easy. Luckily there’s 2 dispersed campgrounds that are still open but not for long

Amazing video also pretty inspirational about living in a van to be able to go and travel. Also what kind of camera do you use?

I live in Germany and I live in a small town about 60 km from Stuttgart. My apartment is 48 m2 (517 sq ft), plus a storage room in the basement and a parking space in the garage. All in all I pay 550 EUR, plus I pay an electricity bill of about 40 EUR per month and internet usage is 30 EUR. One EUR is worth about the same as one US$.

That’s incredible! My last apartment in the city was 289 sq ft and all in was over $1000 a month. But I was never there since I was always in the van traveling anyway.

@Sebastianstonum I enjoy watching YT videos that show life in campers. Unfortunately, this is almost impossible in Germany because staying is only allowed in campsites that are designated for that (the exception is probably rest areas on highways that are already occupied by a large number of trucks in transit). Another big problem is registering an address because without it you can't achieve anything. In addition, if you have a registered address where you don't live, it is a violation and can be a big problem.
