I sang this every Thursday night with my fellow Girl Guides at the end of the evening, 65 years ago. It moves me still as I remember old friends and the joy we had.

@highwaymen34 God is nigh (rhymes with sky). But yes the first verse is wrong. Go to TAPS150(dot)org and click on the TAPS150 CD and you can hear some more settings of Day is Done (with the correct lyrics)

This is the original Day is done, gone the sun From the lakes, from the hills, from the sky All is well, safely rest God is nigh. Fading light dims the sight And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright From afar, drawing near Falls the night. Thanks and praise for our days Neath the sun, neath the stars, neath the sky As we go, this we know God is nigh. Nigh is correct. It's an older term meaning near.

I'm sorry, But I heard no lyrics, but the written ones are incorrect, The correct ones would be: Day is done, gone the sun From the lakes, from the hills, from the sky All is well, safely rest God is near. Fading light dims the sight And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright From afar, drawing near Falls the night. Thanks and praise for our days Neath the sun, neath the stars, neath the sky As we go, this we know God is near.
