Hi katia. I have never heard about the rug washing stations before. I think tat's amazing. As for souvenirs, the Moomin cup, salimiaki and I wouls add a puukko or one of those cups carved from a birch burl. p.s. The moomin cup you show is the same one I ordered from Finland. Nuuskamuikkunen is my favorite Muumihahmo. 😀

Lovely to see Helsinki again. And revise my Finnish. (Olin englantilainen mutta sairaanhoitaja Helsingissa monta vuottaa siiten - 1964/5.) Just one point - not a 'rug squeezer' - it's a mangle.

I think you are spot on with the recommendation to buy Moomin mugs, these are not allowed to be exported to the US so it is very hard to get Arabia mugs. When I visited I brough Juhla, Muumi mugs, läkerol, sinnapi and a little bit of Iitala. I liked the section of the video about party foods, American Finns eat a lot of pulla but where I am from we call it "nisu." When I asked for nisu in a cafe, my cousin told me I sounded like an old man. The korvapuusti was a good substitute. Another common Finnish party food in the US is "mojakka" in addition to lohikeitto.

Very enjoyable, thanks. I actually have a set of Fiskars pruning shears, I didn't know it is a Finnish brand. I got them at the big home improvement store(Lowes) after I broke my father-in-laws...as a replacement set. Looked to be a good day for your day out. Thanks again, kiitos.

A few summers ago, after a very sweatty and hot night at the dance floor, me and three friends (mixed company) came to this mattolaituri, took our clothes off and jumped in. Refreshing! 😎 🏊♀ A fairly popular beach on that island, Uunisaari.

Ryijy is very Finnish and can be a souvenir. It is a rug, so you can wash it at matonpersupaikka or mattolaituri. 😁 I liked the video with Heidi very much. ❤ You did not see other celebrities drinking mustapannukahvi at cafe Ekberg, because you two were celebrities. 😎😎

3:18 What if i won coupon for next order in cafe? 13:25 is that coffee made by sauli?
@Poliss95 Жыл бұрын
Why do they ALWAYS ask if you want anything else? If you did you would have already ordered it, except for Kat obviously. 😁 Those wide coffee cups get my goat. The coffee goes cold far too quickly in them. Just give me an ordinary mug. The oldest café in Finland doesn't seem to be very efficient at clearing tables when people leave. Who knows what those cute house sparrows have been walking in? Celebrities DO hang out at that café. The famous Kat and Heidi hang out there. 😁😁 Founded in 1852? That's almost 7 o'clock. 🤣 Now, if a Finnish person came to England, I wonder what would happen if they translated korvapuusti literally? 🤣If they named a cinnamon bun in the UK after what it resembled I suppose it would be called a cauliflower ear bun. If you came to one of my parties you would get cheese and pineapple cubes on cocktail sticks, Ritz crackers, crisps (chips in American), vegetarian cocktail sausages, mini vegetarian scotch eggs, Cheddar cheese and Branston pickle sandwiches, queen cakes. There would also be soft drinks such as Robinson's barley water, Fanta, filter coffee or lots of beer if that's what you preferred. 🍻🍻🍻 No wine because I hate wine. lol Rug washing parties? How very odd. In my flat I use a Vax carpet washing vacuum cleaner. That machine for squeezing the water out is called a mangle. Something from my younger days before we had a washing machine. Not THAT big though. Sea water isn't very good for washing. It limits the effects of detergents. Maybe Heidi should have used the station for washing the bird poop out of her jeans? 😂😂 A Finnish souvenir? It has to be something with Santa or a reindeer on it. 🎅🦌 I read that coal tar in grooming products has been banned in the EU. Now they just put an artificial coal tar smell in them. 60s Doctor Who star, Anneke Wills, wore Marimekko outfits on the show. Moomins scare me. 😲

Asking if you want something else is a tradition of customer service in Finland. This is the way it is.

@KatChatsFinnish Жыл бұрын
When you order you usually just say the number in basic form, but with number 1 you use genetiivi. So the genetiivi of "yksi" is "yhden" which in spoken language often gets shortened to "yhen" :)
