"Day-Time Wife" (1939) is a romantic comedy film directed by Gregory Ratoff, starring Tyrone Power and Linda Darnell. The movie explores themes of marriage, infidelity, and the complexities of modern relationships, all set within a comedic context.
Plot:
The story revolves around a wealthy businessman, Michael Martin (played by Tyrone Power), who is married to his wife, Terry Martin (played by Mary Astor). Michael, despite his success, is emotionally distant and seems to take his wife for granted. His life is complicated when he begins an affair with his secretary, Terry’s younger namesake, Terry (played by Linda Darnell ), who also works for his company.
However, things take a comedic turn when Michael's wife, Terry gets involved in a "scandal" of her own. In an attempt to rekindle his interest in her, she becomes involved in a scheme to make Michael jealous. Meanwhile, misunderstandings and confusion lead to a series of comic situations involving mistaken identities, professional secrets, and romantic entanglements.
The film explores how both spouses deal with their emotions and the misunderstanding of their romantic intentions. The ending sees the couple trying to reconcile, but the process of doing so is filled with wit, charm, and lighthearted humor.
Main Characters:
Michael Martin (Tyrone Power) - A successful businessman caught between his wife and a seductive secretary, unsure of what he truly wants.
Terry Martin (Mary Astor) - Michael’s wife, who is caught between maintaining her marriage and her own evolving sense of self-worth and independence.
Terry (Linda Darnell ) - Michael’s younger secretary, who gets romantically entangled with him, becoming a catalyst for the complications in the plot.
Joe Martin (Jack Carson) - A comedic secondary character who provides the humor and serves as an observer to the romantic confusion.

A good movie. High quality print too - no scratches/blurs topped off by a great audio track. Hard to believe the movie was made 89 years ago. It was nice to see Mary Astor. Can't say that I liked the story; I'm sure many wives would agree. Nonetheless, the acting was superb. Linda Darnell's costume at the nightclub scene was a knockout as well as Linda herself. I always thought she was one of Hollywood's best actresses. Thank you for a wonderful upload.

Love alll of the lamps with prisms & the materials & designs of the couch & dining room set. ✨️✨️ But there's another WEIRD fixture/sculpture on the wall that looks like a mutant something at 23:45!! Very funny and Tyrone, as well as being incredibly handsome, was such a gifted actor. But, roofing contractors do not live in huge, expensive apartments filled with expensive furniture. I wonder why the writer chose this profession rather than a realistic one for someone who lives in a huge apartment and has household staff?

The plot written in the description is wrong. Mary Astor is not in this movie Plot- After Jane Norton (Linda Darnell) inadvertently discovers that Ken. (Tyrone Power), her husband of two years, is dallying with his beautiful secretary , she decides to turn the tables by applying for a job as secretary to philandering architect Bernard Dexter, an associate of her husband. Despite cynical advice from her friend Blanche, a three-time divorcée, Jane stays one step ahead of the amorous Dexter and uses Ken's jealousy to get him to renounce his extra-marital indiscretions.
