Day Trip to Bako National Park - Taman Negara Bako

It has been a while since I visited Bako National Park. The last time I visited it was in 2020 as you can see in this video.
Located in Sarawak, Bako National Park is a must-visit destination in East Malaysia, accessible by boat. From the city centre, travellers can drive or take a bus (for RM1) to the Bako boat jetty and then take a boat to the national park. The boat ticket is about RM30 per way. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the national park. Note that an RM20 entrance fee applies to every tourist entering the national park. I'm not sure how much a private boat costs today, but my sister paid RM200 in 2020. There were only four of us at the time, meaning the price per person was RM50.
Where to get the bus?
If you're coming from the town centre, you can take the bus (it's red in colour) near Kuching's open-air food court. The locals call it 'open-air'. The buses are somewhere there. Before entering the bus, look at the sign that shows the bus route first and ask the driver if the bus goes to Bako. If the bus hasn't arrived, you'll need to wait a bit. From Bako, you can get the bus near the small local restaurants near the jetty. If you don't see the bus, that means it hasn't arrived yet. The bus returns once every hour (from what I remember). I took the bus before. The waiting time was okay.
What can you see at Bako National Park?
Well, a diverse flora and fauna. I was fortunate to come across some of the park's highlights, such as Proboscis monkeys, silvered-leaf langurs, and Bornean bearded pigs. I even saw a few snakes, including the Green pit viper. There are many trails at the national park, so one can easily spend days exploring the park, which means spending the night at Bako National Park is recommended. By spending more than a day at the national park, you won't have to rush and can enjoy the park's night walk. I have done both day trips and overnight camping and they were fun. Would I return? Yes, absolutely.
Update: The Cobra Head Sea Stack collapsed in February 2024, unfortunately.
