Pad Thai you ate looks so good and appetizing. In the past, Thai people including me needed to cook on charcoal stoves but nowadays, most of us use gas stoves due to convenient. When you compare the taste of food cooked on a charcoal stove to a gas stove, you'll find that charcoal gives off a burnt wood aroma, whereas gas does not. But DO NOT cook on the charcoal stove while there is smoke, it will make the food smell too bad. Thank you for sharing your interesting experience of this place.

As a lifelong Buddhist, I find these giant Buddhas and the Buddhist tourism by Thais to be anathema to the teachings of the Buddha. These places are no more religious than Christmas trees. Bigger is not better or more beautiful. The food you got though, that is beautiful.
