And the more amazing thing about him is that in the most recent interview he said that he did not naturally has raspy voice, he just sing that way because they're a rock band so he tried to adjust his voice like, dang maan.

@@MD-rp6jd it's from a magazine interview in Korea released around the day of The Demon comeback. When he was asked about the formation of the band, he mentioned in passing that he didn't naturally have raspy voice, but tried to sing that way because they're rock band and now sing like that is like a reflex for him. I'll try to dig up the translation and put it here if I could find it.

I believe he has it naturally just probably never used it or practiced it since he was more into ballads. If it wasn't natural, it could damage his throat? Anyways, so glad that he's able to practice it and use it now. I really love it. It's 80% the reason he's my bias.

Oh Day6, ranking them is so hard since they excel on different things and are so unique from each other. Wonpil is my favorite vocalist in the group but he's really just too unique in terms of vocal tone and technique and that makes me confused sometimes. I think Wonpil and Jae are pretty equal, thou sometimes I find Wonpil more stable/consistent compared to Jae. Meanwhile Jae's strong fort is his breathy vocals, and his r&b runs. Plus his tone is really attractive. They all have amazing ranges so that's not even a problem for them. Sungjin and Young K thou, they're both really strong vocalists but I find their so difference interesting. Sungjin does so good at belts, he's so open and resonant, really stable, his mix is amazing and amazing vibrato. He has the perfect raspy voice for rock but him singing ballads is just wow. His Duet Song Festival performances made me think he's gonna do so well on power ballads. I've been to their concert and his voice, you can feel his voice resonate throught the whole arena. I guess that's where he can really showcase his belting skills. Young K on the other hand, phenomenal head voice and agility, that guy is insane on how high he can go. A power vocalist. Really stable even if he goes too high and just really a well rounded singer. Wonpil is a mystery for me, his voice sounds like it comes from his face not from his throat. Idk how to explain it lol. I mean he's an amazing vocalist but I can't evem fit him on a genre, probably one of the reasons why I love his voice.

Wow fam u articulated it so well... U said everything I wanted to say. Day6 boys indeed have such beautiful voices. They are amazing amazing Singers. Also I would never be able to rank them at all coz, simply given the fact that they don't have a fixed position of Main vocalist in team since all 4 of dem are main vocals. This can be further proved by looking at how each members shines the most depending on different songs they sing. Eg. You Were Beautiful - Wonpil I Like You - Jae Cover - Young K Like a Flowing Wind - Sungjin P.S - And yes our 5th vocalist Yoon Dowoon. Dowoon is Love. Dowoon is Everything. ❤

About Wonpil's voice he using nasal, it's from nose. He uses nasal very often when singing middle-high note. But I really love his falsetto. I agree that his voice is unique and I also agree with your opinion about Sungjin, Young K, Jae.

I really enjoyed this video! Of course I adore all of their voices, but for me YoungK trumps Sungjin in terms of tonal versatily and range (Sungjin has an amazing voice though). The person behind "Classical Musicians React", Umu also created a video 'Why Day6's Young K is my favorite K-Pop vocalist' where she highlighted YoungK's prominent role in terms of background vocals and harmonising throughout Day6's disocgraphy, and I think it's great how he can harmonise off the cuff with other members so consistently on-pitch in their acoustic radio performances. For me, I also find Wonpil is a little more consistent than Jae? So my personal order is :YoungK, Sungjin, Wonpil, Jae. As you said though, a case can be made for a lot of different orders for Day6's vocalists!

Absolutely it's the group I'm least set in stone of. Like you could place the 4 in any order and there is no way youd be wrong. More down to what each individual values in terms of vocal ability. But no they're all exceptional.

Yep, I also think Youngk is a slightly better vocalist than Sungjin,but not by a huge margin. They are kind of like Mamamoo in terms of ranking. We have a Solar vs Wheein situation with YoungK and Sungjin. Solar/Sungjin have a lot of volume, making their voice seem really powerful. Then there's Wheein/YoungK who have such versatility, fluidity and range. They are also their group's harmonizers.

Before I had put Youngk first, because he has a bigger range that he can play with compared to Sungjin, but it was really cool to hear a more professional and different opinion!

OMG you should totally check out DAY6 whole discography! They have done so much variety of music genres! They're very versatile yet still never fail to maintain their band's color in each song. I fell in love with Sungjin's voice four years ago. Then I started to appreciate Jae's voice and later Young K and Wonpil. Finally I became a strong fan of Dowoon's voice too. I'm a proud Myday for three years now. I've been to three of their concerts and the fun and the energy were incredible. Not only they have amazing voices. They are great composers and performers too. Thank you for this video. I really enjoyed it. It made me feel even more proud of them.

If you haven't seen it already you should have a look at thier Despacito cover. It made me fall in love with Jae's voice ❤️. And we Maydays love it when Dowoon sings. Loved this, very thoughtful and well said. I do love points you make for Sungjin, who isn't as popular choice for best/favorite vocals, because most people often in kpop scene prefer the lighter/higher sound Young K offers and find his versatility in it make him trump the others, so it's nice to see a different angle and how thoroughly you researched them, and enjoyed them. Thank you! Edit: There's few little know videos from Bangkok where Sungjin genuinely goes into a metal level of growl that always blow my mind, especially knowing the smooth highness he can reach.

yours was very well said as well. i first heard of day6 with shoot me and jae's part stood out for me the most. at first. then sungjin came and hit me with all his might and i still can't shut up about how fucking amazing he is and how much potential he has in his voice that we could see if they shifted their style a little bit. the phrase "metal level of growl" reminded me of how i explained sungjin's voice to my friend back then lol in kpop, there is an appreciated tone for vocals like you said and most groups go for it. but sungjin's case is different. after hearing him without the guitar (and therefore without him having to pay attention to it) i realized why jyp didn't wanna lose him to the point where they created a fucking band lol his voice is like some chester bennington level shit, if day6 was more of a frontman band with meteora type of music i'm sure we could see more of him. i know that a bon jovi style would be injustice to the other great three vocals who can slap the moon with their voices but still... i can't help but wonder how remarkable it would be to hear sungjin in the fullest. i listen to band music mostly and i'm used to the frontman/vocal leaving the guitar while singing and picking it up for music breaks and i know it's different for kpop but sungjin IS this type of vocal and that's why i'm curious how it'd be if they worked this way. i also understand why most people choose brian or jae in comparisons, their tones and overall styles suit the audience more i guess. i love them too. but i can see the monstrous capasity in sungjin even when he just sings the bridge. and knowing how laid-back and even loose he is he probably doesn't care what others think and just sings knowing he's a vocal shotgun lmfao i'm pretty sure that if day6 gets more popular internationally among band listeners and not just kpop fans, sungjin will be appreciated more. people already acclaim that he's a vocal master and capable of pulling any style while maintaining his original tone but i just wanted to mention that even though he likes acoustic plays more, he's a hard core rock vocal that is different than main kpop type of vocals and unique not just for his raspiness but this special frontman voice as well. this is something you're born with and like i said, you can see it even in the day6 songs that he's not lead in. he's blending in with day6' style but he still shows himself. for example, when hitting high notes sungjin doesn't even feel like high. you can feel the transition in others but sungjin just feels as powerful and intense as in his normal range even though he's actually hitting the note. brian has the versatility and flexibility that can be used perfectly for ad-libs. but sungjin is like one of those hardest wands in harry potter (great example, i know lol). very rare, very strong and very capable, can't be bended or yielded, and if used right creates magic that other wands cannot even start to describe. even in little moments like the "for the first time" part in first time or the bridge in stop talking, i wanna hit my head to the nearest wall because i can't comprehend how majestic he is. and you can see from the long-ass post that i really can't stop when it comes to praising sungjin lmfao sorry but not that sorry cause he's bob the i'm-gonna-hit-that-one-lADY-in-she's-gone-and-you-peasants-can-suffer-all-you-want-because-it's-the-perfection-but-also-it's-all-you-can-get-from-me-lol-i-don't-give-a-shit guy and i can't- okay bye cheers

Sungjin is my absolute favorite vocalist ever, and for numerous reasons. I first randomly found D6 just before Letting Go through KZbin (thanks autoplay) and heard Congratulations. My back was turned to the computer, so I didn't know who it was and as I had just gotten into kpop in January, I was still learning groups. So Jae starts singing and I agree with myself that he's really good. Then Sungjin comes on. Whoom. I fly across the room to see who it is. From that moment he has been my favorite vocalist (and ultimate bias) because he is just that good. I didn't need to hear more, but my goodness I was proven SO right after listening to the rest of their songs and covers. I don't even need to explain how or why - you already said it all. I just want to say that it makes me so excited and happy whenever I see comments like thise one (which sadly doesn't happen very often (and I can't for the love of me understand why)) because freaking hell, Sungjin deserves the world for so many reasons, and I just wish more people would open their eyes and actually see him, so he can get the recognition he deserves so freaking much T^T

I tried listening in order and when it got to Colors. And dude, I had to check out who sang the chorus and the bridge and watched a live version and I was like wow. But I wanted to stay loyal to Jae. And then, Letting Go and then Goodbye Winter and then I Would, and that was it. I couldn't really escape. I was just so in love with his voice. And then he turns out to be such a great guy who happens to be a tsundere (just happens to be my type)

It was sungjin's voice that made me keep listening to day6 but youngk's what made me stay. Sungjin's voice is really powerful and passionate when he sings and very consistent, maybe too consistent. That's why i like youngk as a vocalist more. If you watch latest fancams of their concerts or any live performances, he adlibs most of his part. It changes all the time. He loves to experiment with his melodies. And his deep lower range is like ugghh.

I really, really, really liked your insight! I thought you'd like Young K's voice more since his voice is versatile and I can see a lot of people that prefers his voice color than the other 4. But I do agree that Sungjin's voice is very powerful! You can feel his emotions every time he sings. And I've seen them live, his voice was the one who really stood out for me bc dude I think you can still hear his voice roar from the upper seats even if he doesn't have a mic with him! This is the first video I watched from you since I love Day6 and I just want to thank you for appreciating their talent! I know it is pretty hard to rank them because I think that since Day6 songs explore different genres and depending on the song I rank them, for example I love Sungjin's voice in 'Rescue Me' and I love Wonpil's in 'I'll try'. I can't even choose a favorite song or album, I'm unable to rank them 😂

i feel like in the latest day6 songs, they aren't utilising sungjin's vocal talent to its full potential, tbh all of theirs. when they do covers of other artists I'm blown away

For me Young K vocal tone might be my least favourite as compared to other members as the others has very distinctive unique vocal tone, but he definitely outshine others in term of vocal technique and his strong voice which make he stand out the most. But personally I feel like most of DAY6 songs are meant for Wonpil and Young K voice, like it fits their genre perfectly. In which we can equally say that their songs aren’t really meant for Sungjin and Jae’s voice. But in their latest song, Zombie is where you can finally hear how they utilise Jae’s vocal to the fullest. But it still surprises me that you choose Sungjin as your first ranking even when they haven’t really fully utilise his vocal. Most of the time he only sings the chorus repetitively and that’s it. And I do believe there’s so much more in his vocal that he has yet to show us and I am very eager to hear that. Some of his covers like Bogoshipda and High Hope, even just a little, enough to hook me up with his voice and it sounded different to what he usually showed us through DAY6 songs. I’m really looking forward Sungjin’s solo with his own genre in future. My rank often changes tho: Sungjin> Young K> Wonpil> Jae Young K> Sungjin> Wonpil> Jae Young K= Sungjin> Wonpil> Jae (final thought) Obviously, as you can see, I also can’t choose between Young K and Sungjin. I would say its a bit unfair to rank them both so I put them at the same rank 😂

Lol.. No offence bt I totally disagree with you like how can u say Sungjin & Jae's voice don't fit Day6 songs. Sungjin literally owns Letting Go, Rescue Me, Like a flowing Wind, Still, Goodbye Winter, Not Fine & so many of their songs. He has the raspiness in his voice dat stands out the most in Rock Ballads & Rock Metal Songs of Day6. Same goes with Jae. He has such a beautiful timbre, smooth & airy voice which goes really well with all of Day6 songs.

​@@lamimwei3646 not really. i think what op means that brian and wonpil are more of kpop vocals. they're superb but most of day6 songs let them shine even more. brian is like a beatles guy in the band, sings and plays well but actually he can do anything he wants cause there's always room for him, he's that flexible. wonpil is an interesting and very capable kpop vocalist, that's obvious. on the other hand, sungjin is definitely not a kpop vocalist, he's frontman material. he can show his true colours with much more hard core rock songs or just any genre if he can be a frontman instead of a "guitarist who sings". and jae has that indie voice, like those artists who pick their guitars and sing their hearts out without any genre or directive. although he's the best guitarist among them, i feel like he's not a band type singer and more of a soloist who's self-sufficient. and sungjin needs a whole fucking band to back his mighty voice and rock n roll the shit out. both blend in with day6' style and work great cause they're great singers after all. but the songs you gave examples of are just closer to the styles they can give maximum of theirs. jae and sungjin still stands out in day6 songs cause they're very unique and powerful but i'm pretty pretty sure that's not all they could show. in jae's case it's easier for him to do the music he wants (and he actually does that as eaj) because since his style is more indie, it's also more achievable. but it's hard for sungjin to show himself fully cause he's not the frontman and he's not in a band like linkin park that he can lead. he was the main vocal for the first albums but even back then it wasn't a lead like you see in other bands such as arctic monkeys or onerepublic, it was a kpop main vocal position where you sing the parts that require more power and technique. and now main vocal position completely disappeared, members lead in the songs in turn by how much it fits to one spesific member (or rock paper scissors lol). i'm not really complaining or degrading other vocals though, they all are extremely good and it would be a waste of talent to just make them back vocals. also different voices and tones make day6 songs much more appealing and exciting. that being said, i believe sungjin belongs to a different league than day6 and pretty much whole kpop scene. maybe i can give hongki as an example, he also had the frontman colour and showed it well with ftisland cause the structure of the band's music was suitable for it. sungjin still kills it in every day6 song (or project lel) but he has a lot more that yet to come. and if we finally get a chance to see it, i'll probably die of heart attack immediately so maybe bob's just protecting us from losing it if we see his ultimum divine form lmfao

Sungjn’s voice in the song Stop Talking ( Entropy album) is amazing. Although I’ve been listening to Day6 since their debut, this song really really made me take notice of him. Perhaps research and rank Pentagon’s vocals. I think they’re amazing and very underrated.

I agree with you!! Jae has my favorite tone and personal favorite voice in like- almost all of kpop lol. Young K is pretty high up there too and there’s nothing to say about Sungjin, he’s just that good. I really like how Wonpil exo executes his high notes tho. Of course our drum is still improving and in the future he’ll be so good, he’s already well on his way!! Literally name a group with better vocalists I’ll wait 🙂

Thank you for doing my favourite band! I hope you liked some of their songs :) I was at their concert recently and Sungjin is such a powerhouse. He almost never hits a false note and he belted for hours as it was nothing. Young K has this quality when he plays live that he is enjoying himself so much and just makes you happy. As far as bands go, I think ranking them would not be a problem, but I want to draw your attention to a seriously talented vocalist - N Flying's Hweseung. Check out his or the group's Immortal songs performances.

I would like to leave my own placement for the boys because I've been stanning for a while now and often listen to many of their live/raw performances, (just my own opinion) Of course or lil' boy Dowoon would be at #5 being the least skilled vocalists, but I wished you showed off some of their clips of them utilising his voice perfectly. Like the harmony in "I'll Try" where they mixed in Dowoon's low range tone into the last part of the song. Though he might not be as skillful as the rest of the boys, his voice is not at all dispensible. Personally, I would not put Wonpil as #4 because watching him perform and me copying his technique has helped me reach notes that were too high for me to hit before, he is normally on pitch and has subtle adlibs that are prevalent in concerts, he knows how to have fun with his vocals, although he does lose his voice sometimes when it gets too high and he has run out of breath, he is blessed with a beautiful angelic voice that can always stay on pitch. I would put Wonpil as #3. #4 would probably be Jae, even though I'm a huge Jae bias and his vocals are incredibly unique, he pushes to much air out of his lanky body and usually goes out of pitch. He adlibs a lot in concerts, alongside Brian (YOUNGK) but Jae's adlibs are very hit or miss compared to Brian's well-controlled adlibs. So I would put Jae at #4. (Under Wonpil because I feel like Wonpil stays on pitch more frequently and with more ease.) Brian IS DEFINITELY NOT #2. NOPE. He is one of the most talented vocalists that is also the main rapper of the group. His low range is stable and deep, his mid-range is controlled and sexy asf, his high pitch is always perfect. He adlibs in every concert with perfect harmonies. I am not joking when I say his range is one of the best in KPOP, check out "She's gone - Jae and Young K" on KZbin. In that video, though they're messing around, you can easily compare Brian's vocals with Jae and a bit of Sungjin. They're struggling to hit those notes, sure, but Brian has such good control in high notes and low notes that he never sounded like he was straining his voice. I often hear Brian's vocals are very much like theatre/musical vocals because his control and fullness in his voice is very clear and refreshing. He rarely falls off notes and always enunciates parts that just absolutely SLAPS. also would like to add that his ability to change from chest-voice to head-voice and use his mix voice perfectly and effortlessly makes his all the more talented. AND HE'S THE MAIN! RAPPER! BTW!. I would bias/bias-wreck him, but damn, such a perfect man absolutely scares the hell out of me. (quick summary for Brian cause I went on a long tangent - best range, best control, best pitch, best adlibs, #1 for sure) For Sungjin~ our leader-nim. I would personally put him under Brian, at #2, because Sungjin: even though he has perfect pitch and a sexy, raspy and unique voice, he doesn't take risks, and his range is smaller than Brian's. In concerts, you would rarely see him ever do adlibs. (not to say that that is a bad thing, but it shows that Brian is more comfortable with his voice and is able to change up the song so his performances never get too boring.) Sungjin has overall extremely good control and good tone but it's the fact that he rarely takes risks during live concerts and in a way too "by-the-book" makes me feel like he is less skilled in his vocal ability. TL:DR ---------- #5 Dowoon #4 Jae #3 Wonpil #2 Sungjin #1 Young K

Fun fact: Jae said that JYPE made Sungjin change his voice to be more raspy and a feature. He use to have more clearer vocals. Just look up predebute clips, he sounds different but still beautiful

I stumbled upon your video and all I can say is: Great job! You clearly knew what you were talking about and I loved it. Sungjin's voice was the one I noticed when I heard DAY6 for the first time. His voice's raspiness is really what makes me stan them tbh. His control is amazing. I wholeheartedly agree with your ranking! I think Wonpil is still having a hard time controlling his voice, especially when he goes into higher notes. It would be amazing if you could check out SHINee. I personally think the ranking goes like this: 1. Young K 2. Sungjin 3. Jae 4. Wonpil 5. Dowoon These are my personal thoughts so it's fine if people do not agree to them. I agree with all the reasons for Jae Wonpil and Dowoon's rankings but I just really admire Young K's wide range of vocals. He is able to sing really smoothly and softly in his low voice while he can also get really crazy with his high pitch voice in other songs as well. I feel like he has the widest range of pitch and can sing whenever wherever without any cracks amongst the other members. His falsetto and adlibs are also my favourites hehe. This is just what I thought !! But again, everybody's voices are awesome. I also really like Dowoon's low voice because it is even lower than Young K's. I feel like if he has more confidence and has more vocal training lessons he can definitely improve. Honestly though, thank you so much for this video because I thought you really talked about both the advantages and disadvantages for all their voices. Also, thank you for constantly repeating that it was a hard decision to make. :))) I hope more people will start to love Day6 after watching this video and all become my days. :)))

I have loved every voice in different ranking depending on the song. I had to see what an expert had to say and was glad to see even you struggled with the ranking. I personally have been partial to Wonpil’s tone these days. I would love to hear Dowoon if he ever uses his voice to its full potential. It would be cool to see how such a low voice can change the songs. The songs where he sings in have always been my favorites because his low voice adds so much to the overall song.

It s just Sungjin's voice is like my 1st❤, fall for it the 1st time I listen to his singing. 😳 Dowoon surprised me when he sing the bridge of the song '365247' - it s so good! He gives a lil bit spanish vibes to it. 💃 Since U mentioned - Jae's tone is probably ur favorite, please listen to his solo 'PACMAN' and 'PILLOWS' DANG! He nailed it! I realized that English song works more for Jae when Day6 rewrite Bigbang's song 'BAD BOY' in English version. And I need more of songs like 'RESCUE ME' and 'NOT FINE', it is just so fit to Sungjin's voice. Please listen to 'SHE S GONE' covered by Young K and Jae when they r doing a karaoke.
