I kind of describe this as being something different. It to me feels more like a collaborative game, as opposed to cooperative. It’s not as simple as “I’m going to do what I’m good at and all of you should do what you’re good at”. You have to work together, help each other out, help people make up for their countries shortcomings. And it just goes, simultaneous actions in a cooperative game is great.

Played this 10 times now. It took me 3 games to grasp what I need to do, but now standard solo is really easy, so I'm adding multiple challenge cards to increase the difficulty. The game is really enjoyable to play though. Creating effective combos is very satisfying 😊

This sounds fantastic, I was very much not in the market for new games, but this one just made it onto my wish list.

Voting isn't enough, imo. People fought and died fighting fascism. We should be organizing. Take off a week on and before Election Day to canvas door to door, make calls and drive people to the voting booths, etc. As a bonus: getting involved with like minded altruistic people is actually more fun than people realize.

People have fought and died *to secure their voting rights*. Is it the end-all, be-all? Absolutely not. And I think Rahdo and this game both show it’s going to take more than one solution, and there may be some concessions along the way. I don’t want to presume your location and political system, but to some degree yes the person who runs the country matters and having a say on that is important. I also firmly believe in ground up approaches - so exercising my voting rights at the municipal level. Making sure that the people in my own backyard are taken care of and that we are building things for the future. This issue is so nuanced that I couldn’t possibly cover all the what-ifs you may throw at me in this comment; I just want to reiterate again that my takeaway from this video - which I don’t think is far fetched - is that it’s going to take a lot of different approaches from different minds to fix this problem. There is no one size fits all, and the game actually takes that into account.

I am so grateful to Matt (and his co-designer) for making this game and putting so much effort into it, as it is the boardgame industry's signature game on climate change alleviation. Great review, Richard - I agree with every word :)

Setting and engine building makes me think of TM Ares expedition : crisis. Will have to watch a playthrought to see if I could prefer this.

Backed this game back in the day when you talked about it on a video and no regrets! Me and my gamegroup love it!

This game seems like a very good addition to my collection. But it also highlights the issue that the board game hobby is already becoming part of the problem instead of part of the solution. What is it, 5000 new games a year on BGG? Although a small amount in the greater scheme of things manifactured on this planet, it is still almost completely unnecessary. Yes, people need some entertainment and board games are a good way to spend time with other people. And yes, this game, for example is good for learning various things, which I appreciate as a teacher. But still, 5000 new games! Add to that issues with China (where most games are produced) in the global politics, and I have started to wonder are we part of the problem?

We're definitely part of the problem: any form of rampant consumerism is!

Maybe I’m just bad, but I’ve played this game a dozen times on easiest difficulty and have only won 3 times. I really enjoy the gameplay, but I can’t seem to grasp winning strategies 🤷🏻♂️

I think it's easy to get sucked into trying to make the perfect engine in this game. But as we need to do in the real world, we pragmatically need to throw everything at the problem. Icons are the engine. Not the cards actions. So build on top of previous cards, often and frequently.

It IS a great game, but could use its thematic ties more if only it was more beautiful and the player boards were thicker.
