Giving magnesium isn't drugging them. It a mineral that every horse requires. If low they can be reactive an anxious. Your doing a great job with penny. So following on from yesterday I’ve started talking to one of the new people at my riding school and she is really nice and I think we are gonna be really good friends, she totally agrees with me on everything that my other friends didn’t agree with me on so I’m really happy that someone agrees with me and 4 people apologised to me which I am happy about, some of them still hate me but I’m just accepting that and as long as I am being nice then I know I’m doing the right thing. Although they still think smacking horses is a way of training and respect they know how I feel and what I believe so I just don’t say anything when they talk abt that Love you guys❤️

Sent you a dm on Instagram with some helpful Info about fitting saddles for walker horses, and western saddle pads that work well with them. And people need to remember she’s still settling in, and to remember the 3, 3, 3 rule. 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months when you get a new animal. 3 days to settle in and decompress. 3 weeks to learn the routine and realize they are staying and start learning to relax in the new environment. And 3 months to feel secure at home and really start showing their personality. I don’t get why people think when getting a new animal that they should be near perfect from the get go, moving to a place and owner is actually pretty stressful on a horse and it always takes them some time to settle in and start relaxing. Your doing the right thing by getting her on a schedule she can rely on as she is settling in, it’s been what about 10-12 days, I bet in another week and half she will be less jumpy towards everything. And mares are prone to going into heat when they go to a bee place. In fact we would load ours up to go somewhere when we were ready to breed them. Because single time after they got home, they would go in to heat.
@DayByDayVlogs4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Such useful information! It definitely can tske a long time to settle in. Fin took 1.5 years to get where he is now. Penny isn't hyper or out of control at all. Its more me that needs to get things situater

I found that my tense mare does much better relaxing on magnesium. In the 70's magnesium and B6 combined were a big push for humans that were feeling anxiety. I know in Michigan low amounts of selenium are in the soil which affects the horses strength in their legs. So unless people are omnipotent about minerals all over the world, do what you think is best where you live and how the horse responds.

Magnesium deficiency is also a big issues in some areas. Where I live the soil is very low in magnesium, occasionally horses do need it supplemented when they dont get enough in there grain/ hay. Its definitely not a drug, if you feed too much they just pee it out. If the supplement affects them then they were low in it.

Most soil in developed countries have the magnesium stripped from it from pesticides used in growing crops.
