something y’all need to work on is recognizing your mistakes in riding and not always blaming your horse. chino refused the jump because gabby was holding him back since she was nervous. you can see her approach to the jump was different from her normal hands forward light seat approach. all i have to say is being able to recognize that you’re the one doing something wrong and not the horse your riding will improve 10x.

I’m seeing some comments about how Gabby should not have given Chino a pat after him refusing and instead given him a kick and forced him over the jump....it makes me sick frankly hearing people talk about horses like they are some machine to serve us only. I think Gabby showed high moral fiber and empathy by taking the high road instead of acting like a petulant two year old a throwing a fit onto her horse. Words cannot describe how proud I am of her for being a true horsewoman....In the world of showing, it can be all too easy to forget why you do it in the first place and start to treat your horse less than good. I’m just very happy of Gabby not having forgotten why she does it🤎

Couldn’t agree more!!!!! They want her to kick and smack with the crop yet when the Olympic rider did exactly that everyone jumped on her? So what is it that people want! Far out horses are real animals and don’t deserve to be hit and kicked cause they are scared and unsure 🥺

She did great taking care of chino and making sure he was ok before she checked on herself. She did great handling that and keeping him calm. I think that she handles that very well and professionally. I think that you just to excited and ahead of yourself when you fell. Most of the time people fall of because they don’t wait for the jump to come to them so they get to excited. That causes the horse to stop at the jump.

She did a good job of reassuring him! It looks like she just tried to fit the 6 in, but didn't have enough horse at the first jump to do it comfortably. Chino seems like he would have preferred to add in. I've learned that it's better to keep your horse comfortable, rather than stick to a set number of strides. A lot of times judges like to see smart, proactive riding!
@illbebold3 жыл бұрын
Gabby did handle this beautifully. She was calm, patient, and forgiving. There was no anger, no frustration, no blaming Chino. She gently asked him to try the jump each time and quietly, graciously accepted when he wouldn't. That final pat and smile when she knew it was over says so much about her character and the love she has for Chino. As much as I am sure she would have been over the moon to go home with a handful of ribbons, I think what she did here is worth more than any of that. Well done, Gabby. I'm proud of you!

Gabby handled herself and Chino very well! This is no place to attack a child, their family, and trainer on what happened or "should have" happened or what they could have done. A learning experience for everyone, that was taken care of how they see fit & by their professional. Chino was moving forward, freely, and happily doing his job as asked. Most importantly she didn't get mad at chino, which I have to say I am really proud of her for that. Alot of girls, even boys get really mad at their horses when something doesn't go to plan at a show. She kept her cool throughout the entire ride, which shows how mature she has gotten as well as what great trainers she has beside her( as well as both of you her parents). At some point through the journey these things can happen and that's ok, just need to take a moment, breathe and move on foward. She's got a great horse as her partner and alot of people should really watch how she handled this situation because a whole bunch can definitely learn from it. Great job Gabby❤

This was a great show for them, despite the fall and not jumping the jump I think gabby really shined in her attitude. I know a show isn't the place to fall but she will have shown a lot of young riders that even if you fall its ok to have a laugh about it and she showed perseverance. I wish there was a sportsmanship prize because Gabby would have won it. Chino looked fantastic in the new shoes and his new bit and even though it went wrong gabby tried her upmost to support him and give him confidence. What happened with Gabby’s first fall at this show is that she was going for the big spot with him and chino either didn’t want to take that distance or he didn’t see a distance coming to the fence their for he stopped. it’s not because he was scared it’s because gabby tried to push a distance that wasn’t their for him. And yes their may have been some of the reason that he was a little scared of it. PS this is no hate in anyway i just wanted to say this😉

The jump was visually scary, with the thick fill, so running up to it like gabby did was not a good idea. She should’ve sat up and chipped in
@kathrynbourgeois90163 жыл бұрын
@@chloe_the_belgian_warmbloo9523 Yes I agree with that statement. Sit up, collect, add a stride and give him a good squeeze a stride or two out from the fence. To be fair though if you look at the jump and the bush, before Chino crashed into it, it was quite far out... intruding into the 'take off' zone, making it wider and scarier for Chino. Gabby did eventually try sitting up but at that point I don't think Chino was mentally able to make it, it already affected his confidence. It is just one of those things to work on, and I feel like Chino is normally such a good consistent hunter, that maybe that is just not something Gabby has had to work on a ton, but hey from a horsemanship perspective, she handled that whole situation so well! So kuddos to Gabby for that! At the end of the day your horses wellbeing comes first, and she handled it, and the disappointment of a fall at a horseshow like a champ!

Handled like a true horse woman! People need to hand Gabby the slack that Gabby gave Chino. He has been lame and did not get any time to prepare like normal for this show. You can’t expect him to be like normal and its lovely to see Gabby understand that she was asking more than usual of him and that he was trying for her. No need to be annoyed at him, this is out of character and it was definitely understandable. If she had done something different would he have gone over? Maybe so, but thats what happened and she handled it well. Some situations you do have to just kick the horse on and get them over it, but this wasn’t that time. With no context this may seem like one of those situations, but Chino, nor Gabby had prepared like usual and stuff happens. You pat your pony and work on what happened at home so you can come back better than ever. Also, barely a fall, she landed on her feet! 10/10 for style on that one Gabby! 🤣

Ideally hunters know their striding and can tell before they get to the fence if it isn’t going to right and shorten or lengthen their horse’s stride accordingly to fix it. When he got to it, no one told him what to do so he wasn’t sure if he should chip but he felt like he was too far away to just jump so he decided to try to stop because he didn’t think he could make it over safely. Most likely, that experience scared him so the next time he wasn’t confident about it because he remembered what happened the last time so his association with that jump is that experience. And I definitely know that Gabby is still learning. Not being great at striding yet wasn’t meant as a slam or a negative at all, I just mentioned it to explain what I believed happened from what I saw and all my years in hunters. Also, I couldn’t tell if Gabby was doing it or not and it may not have mattered but if my horse refuses a fence and I’m going back to try again, I’m sort of expecting them to try to refuse again so I put more leg on and I’m ready for them to try to slow down or wiggle out. So just as a tip, if you get refusals and are heading back for another try, mentally ready yourself for him to try to stop again so the second you start to feel him think about it, you can correct it as needed and maybe avoid a second refusal.

I did see in the third trip that it looked like she added more leg and she tried really hard to get him over and he really almost went. She did a really good job of trying to get him there that time but his anxiety was just a little stronger for him. In that case, I think she did everything she could and he really thought about it but in the end he just still was too unsure

She did a good job the only thing is she should’ve done more with that jump. If he stops you don’t say good boy. You kick him and make him go over it. She didn’t seem to go up to it thinking “you will just over it, get up” but more of “oh if you jump it yoh jump if if not that’s fine too” I would’ve been more in control about that stop

He refused the both times the went up to it you get disqualified after 2 attempts. But I also think she was nervous after that aswell and you don’t want to scare him into it. It will just be something they will have to work on with him

@@Lifewithhorses628 yes I agree but all I’m saying is she should’ve ridden up to it giving him no to option to stop. Then he might’ve gone over it.

Chino looked great. Gabby looked so happy as well. The other day Sophie gave daisy some tomatoes and if you give too many it can be poisonous. Sorry if that seems mean but I don’t want daisy to be sick
