Welcome ! Yes I have to include that. I can’t have parents dropping off whenever they want . It makes things more hectic and kids never get into a routine . It’s disruptive and once their child is in ‘real’ school they can’t drop off whenever ! They need to be there at a certain time or they’re tardy . If they’re tardy enough times they can get into trouble . So let’s start getting these parents into a routine as of now .

This is excellent. Within my policies I go over each one with parents before they enroll and I have them initial next to each policy specifically stating that they agree and understand. That way if in the future they have a problem with something I remind them that we've gone over this policy, the reason why and they agreed to it. I have BOTH parents sign as well.

The sick policy was especially helpful for me! You specified severe coughing - thank you! Was curious how everyone else handled colds. I agree runny noses are so common. It’s going to be a looong winter

Yesss we have had a few runny noses these past few weeks, but there are no fevers or any other symptoms associated with the runny nose so we just keep sanitizer and tissue on hand 🙂

I loved your video it’s so informative.After doing home daycare for almost 20 years it’s easy to have parents take advantage of you the more you give.I’ve never charged late fees and for new parents it will be in my handbook for sure.Or parents that do early drop off simply because they were ready early.So I have a minimum of 3 days pay per week no matter what.You have 5 days,no matter what? I was always concerned with sick kids coming when they shouldn’t be here if parents are paying anyhow.What about if you take a weeks vacation do they still pay.I’ve always struggled with this one. Your correct about it being surprising of the parents that are late with paying.I find it’s usually the more well off parents that are late,my guess is because they have no idea about being paycheque to paycheque.

Yes Tan , I agree . The more you give , the more they ask for / take / expect you to take on . My late fees aren’t limited per week . They can have all 5 days because at the end of the day I’m getting paid BUT , if they are treating it as the ‘hours of operation’ I have a issue with that. What I mean by that’s is if a parent accepts a new job and they get off at 5pm (I close at 5pm) and they are 5 min away from me and they arrive every day after 5pm because they have a new job , I will not accept that because they are treating it as if I close after 5pm . I hope that makes sense . They do not pay when I’m on vacation .

I added some other stuff that I need to add such as: philosophy, mission statement, administrator greeting, staff background, qualification introduction, ratio group size, emergency preparation (where our emergency location will be and drills), I also addressed custody order needs to be on file I also added the DRDP and ASQ. Did you know there's a website to send to parents and they fill it out? All you do is ask parent to email you the results? I didn't know that until this class. My lesson plans I add the scope and sequence, according to the DRDP measures for the class but I don't think I'll do that in my program if I get licensed. I used to do it when I was a teacher in a child care facility. It did help me I was so lost. I was stumped on an employee handbook that sucked up most of my time. Your handbook was a lifesaver!

I’m very curious as to how maternity leave went. How did you go about that? Did the parents respect it? Did you feel like you took enough time? How was it going back to opening with a newborn?

I took 2 weeks off and I do not think it was enough time . I wish I could’ve taken more time , but it wasn’t possible at the time . I take 2 weeks of vacation a year and I used it as my maternity leave , unpaid . I was physically ready to work again just not emotionally ready. I am not having anymore kids , but if I did , I would adjust a few things the next time around .

I should add, I’ve heard some parents are given the handbook to take home and read themselves and others will sit and read word for word with the families.

I do not . I mention what is important to me because my handbook is long and some families don’t have lots of time on their hands .

I'm a child care provider in AZ serving many families for 31 years. I charge $30 per each day if parents don't pay on time, $3 per minute after 10 hours of care as late fee. And guess what? No body is ever late!

I have had parents who refuses to pay or would try to dodge it. And when they get confronted it becomes a whole mess. I had parents who wouldn’t want to follow policies like bringing in a child while they are clearly sick but the child don’t have a fever or symptom because it’s obvious the parent administered medicine to them before dropping them off. How do you go about confronting them and handling the situation. And, how do you go about handling a parent who is screaming at you or giving you attitude.

Hello Andrea , I am pretty sure you have to apply. I don’t know what state you’re in , but each state does have somewhere where you can get the process started . I am in Florida , and we have to go through the Department of Children and Families .

That is completely up to you. Drop in care isn't a steady income . People may come and go faster and only use you when its convenient for them. If this is just something you are doing on the side , then maybe you can solely do drop in , but if you want this long term and if you want to build a stable business, I wouldn't do drop in. I'd focus on getting long term clients.

Yes ! Tuition is due with or without attendance . If they don’t pay , they can not return until their balance is cleared .
