As a daycare provider 10 years I have a few more cons to add through my own experience.... 1) having to ask parents constantly to be paid for the service you offer sucks and you just have to take a loss if they don’t. 2) daycare is not a stable income. One month you are full ratio and making money next you loose half your group ( corona virus) and are struggling to make ends meet. 3) dealing with behavioral issues is tough if parents don’t discipline at home or have different rules at home for child to follow. 4) Parents trying not to follow your policies and procedures in your handbook and then getting mad when you show them the rules. They will leave daycare and give bad reviews. Lol these are some of the things I’ve dealt with!

I ask for posted cheques twice a year! Never a problem since. Also I issue 1 receipt at tax time.

Wow. Thanks for this. I use to leave my kids at an at home daycare and the lady was amazing. She definitely still made us pay full tuition even if kids weren’t present. It was a set price even if they were sick one day. That was in her policy and I understood that. (Her prices were pretty low though lol) don’t get me wrong I still got annoyed about it sometimes but it’s a good way to probably keep a set income.

Yes! I have experienced just about all those cons you listed. In all my 14.5 years of being a licensed in-home daycare provider the worst con bar none has been to ask/remind parents to pay me. Nothing is more uncomfortable or demeaning

Have been open for almost a year now, and I’ve nipped the early drop off and late pick up in butt with late fees. Also burnout is real in my handbook I’ve made clear that I get 2 vacations a year but still the burnout is real.

Yes I agree, that’s why I setup a separate room but yes I did the same in the beginning.

Thats why it's important to have a written consent of who can pick up your child after daycare, and if their name is not on that consent from the start, it's a no-go. However it can be modified later and consents like this can also be shown to the one who argues about a authorized pick-up at a Daycare.

Hi Ashley, You are doing an amazing job and inspiration to so many of us. it’s really tough to work all year long with kids. I only watch teachers kids and follow school hours and holidays. I love to take all school holidays and summer off. If I didn’t have that I don’t think I would’ve survived this long. It’s been 8 years I have been watching only teachers kids. I don’t have strict rules as I never have to deal with early drop off or late pick up or even late pay. I prefer high school or middle school teachers because they pick up their kids by 3:30. Latest pick up is 4pm and no one ever went pass that time. One down side is that I don’t charge for all the days kids miss whether if they are sick or any school closings/holidays.

I have another “CON” to add to the list. You need a back up person in Case If you get sick. Someone that’s qualified to do the job according to licensing.

I have just always told daycare clients I’ll give them as much notice as possible when I get sick, and it’s their responsibility to have a backup person.

I'm a provider in Texas and you have to have boards up on your walls with your license, Fire department info, Evacuation diagram, posters etc . It drives me crazy!!!! I've been a provider for 11 years and I used to have those wash your hand,Don't hit posters on my living room walls.Then when ever I would have a birthday party for my own kids it would look crazy as the years go by I've gotten rid of the bulky changing table.I have plain white walls in my living room. I have a lot of toys and colorful rugs that can be moved in another room during holidays. I love how you have a room for daycare I only have my living room but it's totally dedicated to the daycare. I don't have a couch in at all. By the time daycare is over its time for dinner and bed time anyway 😴

I’m 18 and a babysitter currently! Wanting to start an in home day care one day when I get my own place. I have a few questions How’d you get started? Is income good and able to make a living off of it? What certification and training do you need? Do you have to be open all week and weekends? Do you need and have to go to college and major in some type of child care related majors?
@totstothetop
@totstothetop 4 жыл бұрын
How you get started varies amongst states . You will need to see what your state and county require as far as courses etc . You should then look into where you will be opening your daycare . You can make a living off of it . It is a great job , but it does come with a lot . You don’t need to open all week . You are your own boss so you pick the days and times you operate . In my state , there is no college education needed .

FEES FEES AND FEES !!!! Once someone hears the word 'FEE' , they start to take you into consideration. There are a few people who don't care about paying fees, and that's where you need to decide if you want to just keep them and make the extra money, or tell them its not working for you and let God bring you another family. and aggressive behavior from parents? or...

How about renting or buying a house solely for the purpose of daycare business and hiring a live-in teacher and a hourly cook. The teacher will design the curriculum and your job is admin and marketing.

I have been thinking about becoming a daycare provider. I'm very structured and schedule based with activities, I like to plan ahead. Also, I have a very chilled personality and I'm afraid that some parents might not take me seriously. That's why I'm wondering if it will be good to make sure to explain to parents the rules and have them signed agreements for drop-offs and pick-up times and implement late fees. Also, I wonder if it would be good to hire an aide to take care of cooking and cleaning so I can focus on child care and implementing a learning curriculum. I know it's a lot, I also get overwhelmed by just thinking about it.

@totstothetop

The parents know about the weeks that I am taking off way in advanced . Some parents take the same weeks off as I do from their jobs , and some parents have family or someone care for their children .

Great video, do you think it’s worth it financially?? I’m working on starting my home daycare next year, so I’m saving money to pay my bills for a few months until I start getting clients. So do you know how long it would probably take a provider to find clients?
@totstothetop
@totstothetop 2 жыл бұрын
How long it takes for a provider to fill all of their spots is different for us all. Your quality, hours, rates, what you offer etc all will affect enrollment. Stay dedicated and provide quality care and you will not have any problems.

And I do think its worth it financially. I have a video on my channel on how to start a daycare with under $500. Its a good way to start. I have been blessed to do this for 8 years ( and counting ) and care for my family with my income from being a daycare provider and I wouldn't ever go back and change it.
