Do you consider the AA more capable than the AAA? 2w David Elkins I prefer my 3t to ny 5t. It’s a tad bit smaller but just as capable imo. The 5t has a slight delay for turbo mode that irritates me a tad but that’s a minor not to pick. If all your other gear runs off AA the 5t might be smarter. 1w CinciDan08 I’d also like to hear about your backpack... external aluminum tube frames have gone the way of the dodo bird it seems. I though I was the only old guy that carried one of those. 2w Bravo I actually thought he was joking when he said about they used condms in the army 😂😂😂 1w William R. Flipping coins on what way to go it was fun my son & it worked out. 😎 1w David Elkins hey Nutn. You might like some of the filters from survivorfilter.com. Just another option but one I like. 1w Nathan Hey Nutn. Love this video! Our family experimented with some Sawyer Straws while on hikes this year and really liked them. We had a hike in the Tetons go longer than we thought and we were able to refill all of our water by filling the bags in the stream and then squeezing water through the filter into our mugs. Yes I had to kneel for a while. I just said a few prayers while I was down there.

I would recommend looking into sawyer filters. Got a sawyer mini and it is leagues above the lifestraw in use and portability. Saved me on quite a few long hikes.

Why not the Sawyer Mini for water? seems like a perfect use case for it
@marko11kram3 жыл бұрын
for us, we have the mini with better bags, plus tubing to set up as a gravity feed in one kit, and Lifestraws in the others, Supplemented by the Israeli water purification tabs (Chlorine Dioxide) Oh, and a Hydra Blu Sidekick - pen is in our get home bags. For the collection bags, since filling them is a pia, from our real world tests, we carry a RED (contaminated) collapsible silicone cup to scoop and fill the red caribiner (contaminated) bag, before running it through the Sawyer mini to the clean (blue caribiner) bag

Great Video! Love your stuff. I recently got a couple of your TNP patches. Thanks, they are awesome. Also, you're the first person to mention the chemical taste after having Covid. I had it last December, and I will often have a chemical flavor in many meats and cheeses. I regained my smell, but I'll often have a severe chemical smell near gasoline or exhaust (not like how it should smell) similar to the taste in the meats and cheeses.

I'm putting mine fully together this weekend and I found an awesome saw option. The Coghlans pocket sierra saw! It's a folding and locking saw and 5" closed 8.5" open, and a whopping 1.45 ounces! For $8 think this is perfect for the size of branches you'd make a shelter with. It is also a pull on the cut saw so it will help minimize work compared to the commando saws.

You should look into #36 Bankline, it's tarred mariners line for setting up trotlines. A lot of Bushcraft and Survival guys use it for general utility cordage. I have a whole roll around 500ft in my Bug Out Bag. I use Titan Survivorcord as well, mainly for my ridgeline, but it's 650 paracord that has the 7 strands plus fishing line, a strand that's fire tinder, and snare wire. It's about $20 for 100ft but it's really good stuff.

Great vid as always! How about a couple of weightless coffee filters to use as prefilters to prolong your Lifestraw? One of those cheesy $3 keychain pet lasers would be great for signaling too. Thanks Nutn and Godspeed!
@CrimeVid3 жыл бұрын
I don’t often look at this kind of stuff, but, you cannot see a small low powered laser from very far away, unless it is pointed straight at you. From a mile away what is the chance of seeing that ? it might work if you point it at a small mirror to create a flash (close your eyes !)
@JakeHabermansYouTube3 жыл бұрын
A laser is not acceptable for signaling aircraft. It is extremely dangerous to laser any aircraft and they'd likely not recognize it as a call for help.

Looks more like a storm trooper light! I always prefer a saw for making fire, and usually can get away with out splitting wood as the supply of pine, spruce and juniper is good. But here in Norway my insulated Jerven Hunter bag is my nr. 1 survival item when it gets colder outside.

Why not bring an MSR Helium bivy? Breathable, warmer than any option presented, no setup required, 4-season weatherproof, and just 16 ounces. A great replacement for a tent if you want to avoid the weight. I hike every weekend (often in alpine mixed conditions) and have no problem with the weight.

@@JakeHabermansKZbin Yes, it works in that role but it's a little too small and maybe not quite durable enough for it, at least to do it often. I don't like the carbon steel version of it btw, it does get sharper than the stainless but it rusts twice as easily. A full tang would really help in that scenario, but I think for a survival kit only meant to be used for batoning for a limited time, it would probably be fine, none of mine have actually broken btw, I just feel like they could if I kept batoning with the same one. But for how cheap they are I'd take the risk personally.

I picked one up and in all honesty wasn’t super impressed with the quality, when compared to the older Al Mar knives. Had to take the knife apart and bend the liners straight because they were bent. Causing blade centring to be way off and lock up to be poor. I bought the Honey badger folder, for cheaper than the eagle I might add both made in china and the Honey Badgers quality far exceeds the Al Mar. the Al Mar was 62$CAD I was expecting better quality for the price.
