You have 5 minutes warning to leave your house, grab everything you need to survive for 2 weeks. Could you do it? I doubt it! That's why I made the Nutnfancy Bug Out videos, to help organize your preparation. The result of your efforts will be an assigned "BOK" to every individual in your family. My Bug Out Kit build goes beyond a simple and usually inadequate "72 hr Kit," especially the crap ones you buy. It's a self-contained living system that is primarily wheeled to its use location, having food, shelter, weapons, FAK, tools, toiletries, and more. Building a kit that's high quality is going to cost over $1000 but it will be there for you forever, only needing occasional "overhauls. It will provide high peace of mind for upcoming WROL, sudden economic collapse, earthquake, tornado, volcanic, and hurricane events.
Here I'll attempt to set down some key philosophy and considerations of the Bug Out Kit and bugging out in general; they steer the contents in other parts (see below). For instance you should be reticent leaving your place of residence in the first place and I discuss the realities of bugging out, dispelling some KZbin and forum nonsense on the subject.
Part 1 is the all important Philosophy of "bugging out." Part 2 will show you my current choice for a BOK container; Part 3 will show you the contents. I stress in the subsequent parts that each kit is tailored to each family's situation/locations and each person's needs. For instance, I am now downsizing Mrs Nutnfancy's kit (overhaul). It will be smaller with less comfort items but them's the breaks. She can't haul anymore. You'll see how you too will have to make some real SAWC decisions to achieve the best capabilities that can fit into your man-portable TNP-style BOK system!

FROM TNP PATREON J Wolf: Another great video Nutn, it is important for everyone to consider how prepared they are for having to GTFO. Your other videos on the subject have def influenced by current go bag, and I’m sure this series will encourage more thought and adjustment. Keep up the great work, you have the audience you do because you always keep it real.

Great to see you in comments J Wolf and you're welcome. I will say in Part 2 the BOK, or for that matter my USK too, is never finished. You'll always learn and modify it from time to time. But you can get pretty close with this series of videos I think and it might save you some time. -NUTNFANCY

You think you trained your cats to hunt? Thats cute. Did you teach grizzlies how to catch salmon? Did you teach hyenas too? Or maybe they taught themselves and passed it down genetically. Cats are bron to hunt and kill in teams or solo

@FPS JiveTurkey I'll agree in part. Yes for the knowledge and skills but... redundancy... and one need not make things harder or less comfortable than they have to be. Soooo... a combo of both. Get the naturalist solo-survival skills 'just in case', but get the BOK option sorted too so that if you can have things a little easier, you are enabled indeed. The BOK could be what saves you in a scenario where wild natural sources of food and water are not readily available like saaay out in the hottest of dry, mountainous desert or maybe floating on a life raft out on the ocean, or in northern Alaska, polar-Canada, Siberia... Depends... Sometimes having stuff is a necessity.

You make him sound like a hypocrite. What he means is that you have to prioritize what you pack because the heavier your pack the more water and food you will need and the longer it will take you to arrive at your destination. If you can save 2oz on every tool in your bag that could mean an extra 32 oz of more water you could be carrying.

I really think the prepper/survivalist community can really learn from thru hikers and section hikers on this. I'm not advocating carrying cuben fiber packs, but I've seen dudes carrying three different kinds of knives, in addition to their EDC. And then carry heavy MREs in the original packaging they bought eight years ago.

Andrew Haley 15 hours ago I really like that you stressed the point of not having run and gun shootouts. I live in a very rural area, and that point comes up a lot. I believe the same way you do, I don't see that happening. I have always believed rimfire is the way to go, especially after watching the ruger American 22wmr vid. I don't see having to bug out, but we are prepared for anything. Thanks for awesome talking points, really can't wait for the next chapter.

.22 mag is not much more powerful than .22 LR or .22 WRF. I wish someone would make a survival rifle with either swappable barrel liners (one in the barrel and one on the underside like a musket's ram rod), or a rotatable situation. So you could go with a much better cartridge, like 5.7x28 mm, .22 spitfire, .22 TCM, .22 hornet, or even .17 HMR, or .17 hornet, but also be able to shoot the much more common .22 LR when your couple thousand rounds of one those other calibers runs out. They're mostly all WAY more powerful than .22 WMR/mag or .22 LR, or at least significantly more powerful.
@tylerbuchholz3234
@tylerbuchholz3234 6 жыл бұрын
Chiappa has the M6 survival gun and they have some inserts that go into the shotgun barrel and allow you to shoot some different calibers. Last I looked, they didn't have any exotic liners but they had common ones.
@Snado
@Snado 6 жыл бұрын
22 rimfire cartridges are nice for their usage, but the only thing of concern that should be looked at is something called critical failure rate. Please look into the recorded shootings along with that to make a informed decision before choosing a rimfire as a defensive weapon

“Spiritual things, that’s where you should have your value system.” That’s why I tune into this channel more than most. A realistic (I’m not using the word tactical, I refuse) and universal approach to living well. If it’s good for me it’s good for everyone. If it’s good for me but hurts others then, by definition, it’s not good. Life’s purpose, to live. Man’s purpose in life, to live well. Follow the golden rule using your moral compass and you’ll always be headed in the right direction.

FROM TNP PATREON Taylor O'Neill: Thank you for the dose of reality Nutn! The proudest that I have ever been of the city I live in, Houston, was during and after Hurricane Harvey. I'm so glad that you talk about how terrible WROL will be, and that we should "not hasten the day". I hate how some people fantasize it online. I love Texas because of the people who love Rule of Law and help one another. I read an article recently about how volunteers in Utah have been helping with wildfires. Having lived in other parts of the country, I have to say that I'm so grateful to live in Texas and it sounds like Utah is right up there. Not saying we're perfect, but it gives me hope. How do you feel about your immediate community, Nutn?

1. The average person is unable to survive in the wild for any length of time. 2. Your bug out plan is only as good as the weakest member of your group. 3. The average member of the military is totally untrained in survival skills (The beans and bullets are delivered by your supply chain). 4. In one week, you'll be ready to steal. In to weeks. to kill. In three weeks, to eat another person (not your girlfriend). And, so will everyone you encounter. 5. Trust your neighbors, encourage them to prep, have the "what if" talk with them.

This guy isn't a hunter. Much easier to shoot and eat that rabbit or deer than that human. I don't think i would ever consider eating another human a better option than shooting a wild animal. That rabbit isnt going to shoot back at me. And it's also not another human. A single deer will feed a family for a while if they know what they are doing.

I've watched a lot of "bag" videos and most are non-since. Also, a bug out kit for Florida would be different than a buyout kit for Utah. I have a portable fishing pole in mine with lures to catch local fish. Gotta eat.

A friend of mine went to Indonesia after the tsunami to help with relief efforts. She and her team had to wear a burkas to disguise their identities, and even then her group had to wait till the jihadists left the region. One of the men she met had lost everything - his wife, his children, his home, everything. He was the only member of his family to survive. I'll never forget what he said to her, "I don't understand why you're here, but I'm sure glad you came, and I wish I had more than this smile to offer you." To echo what you've said a million times, that is real life. That is real WROL. That is real bugging out. And it's terrible.

I think that it was great that you led off with the points about don't bug out unless you have to, and the issues of physical fitness and vehicle dependence. We have had real-world bug-outs for hurricanes and tornadoes. The latter being with few minutes' notice. You have to know when to stay and when to go. For us, my wife has medical issues and can't walk any considerable distance, even over flat terrain and carrying nothing. If the vehicles are down or the roads are impassable, that's it. We stay, we make our stand, and we have to prepare accordingly for that.

Dont usually comment, but I love the videos and the honest take on the topics. I was a moderately prepared individual, but 5 years ago I suffered severe spinal damage in a fall at work. I'm currently focusing on returning to the physical point I once was, but I was wondering if you could do a video or at least a few points with your experience, what would be some preparation points for someone with limited physical mobility? nutnfancy I like the real scenario’s people bring out here. In most cases when you bug out it might all start unspectacular. You evacuate because of a natural disaster. Personally I live in a save and remote area. But 60 years ago it was overrun by the red army. In case of a Natural disaster I am prepared to big in and offer space for flooding victims (Oder river). But I do have the Russians in mind ;). All my thoughts do focus on a “grey” scenario. I don’t believe there will be a full law break down if I look at the Second World War occupation might change your law or slowly erode before being enforced. Going full Rambo is not my goal, nor is it an ethical option. Violence will be a last resort. My main focus is on family, community and aid.

Fantastic. Thanks for sharing your years of experience with survival knowledge with us all. I've learned so much from you over the years! To me the GREATEST asset in any survival situation is the attitude of being determined to survive and maintaining confidence. Keep it together mentally, be determined and you'll find a way. Everything else will follow...

Thank you Nutnfancy for your worthwhile contribution to this vital consideration. I have been on-board this mind set since 1965 when I first watch the B&W movie, 'Panic in the Year Zero'. This is a traumatic event situation and your preparations greatly reduced to shock impact. People need to 'google' images of the WW2 refugees and take really hard look at each and every image. A small 20 lbs suitcase and a bedroll was their BOK, a few had an unbalanced wheel barrow, bicycle or hand cart. There are many good contributions here. The wheel barrow does not have balanced load distribution. Gorilla carts are a possibility . BOK Roller-Bag Rolling resistance. The Roller bag is a great concept for each person. Small wheels and an unbalance BOK load makes life harder. The Roller bag do not have balanced - forward/Aft - load distribution and Nutnfancy made this point very well with Mrs Nutnfany's smaller / lighter roller bag. The Deer Drag sling concept attached to your rolling device transfers the forward mobility energy requirement from your arms to your stronger legs muscles. Deer Drag harness, costs about $10- $20. A large Deer Cart can pack a family of four's BOK on a BALANCED load and pulled by one or two people. Again the Deer Drag harness, costs about $10- $20, will assist in the mobility effort. The folding Deer Cart is a worthwhile BOK / child / casualty mobility system; see kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGWXYZtomduKd8k. 'Guide Gear Deer Cart Game Hauler' costs about $70 and can pack flat in to the trunk of a sedan. The 28 inch steel framed bike can carry a 400 lbs load pushed by one person. This is what the Viet Cong did along the Hi Chi Min trail during to Vietnam War, see www.historynet.com/pedal-power-bicycles-in-wartime-vietnam.htm . Giving Aid to Someone. Follow the military system: use THEIR (the casualty's) water, First Aid Kit & shelter items to help them. No kit, then they are SOL. Fools cannot be helped. I have done the roller bag leave home routine twice in two divorces and changed my country of residence. In my new country we had to move to our BOL farm when the local social situations went hostile. You would be surprised that shedding baggage can make you happier; but you need skill sets. I will refer this good advice video to others. Thank you again Nutnfancy and our world-wide crew from Greg in Thailand

I completely agree I with size and weight and everything is disposable . I once got lost hunting with my gear and 870 I walked 10 miles before I found a road than I was another 20 miles to my truck. I’ll tell you what my entire hunting set up changed after that day. I almost left my bag and shotgun. Honestly I haven’t taken my shotgun out since that day.

Always enjoy your philosophy and concept videos. You mentioned disabilities... I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, mostly in my hands and wrists. I can last a couple of weeks without meds before things start to stiffen up enough to hinder movement. But, because of those meds I can get infections, sunburn, and illness easier. So, my focus is on keeping things at home and just having a get home bag. If the streets are impassable for my vehicle then there is likely a lot of dust in the air. I keep a filtration mask, water, hat, and some other items to get me home without getting sick.

FROM godfather USA: Carry your pack in a WHEELBARROW! Small children can't hike very far, put them in the wheelbarrow. Find a water or fuel cache, carry it in the wheelbarrow. Need a barter item, trade the wheelbarrow. Run out of road, ditch the wheelbarrow. Don't own a wheelbarrow, use a lightweight wheeled cargo dolly.

Thank you Nutn for, as always, being the voice of reason. Reason is one of our greatest commodities and we seem to be in ever shorter supply! One viewpoint is that lots of prepared humans are exactly what a center of calamity needs. For as you always say: let us be the sheep dogs, and not the sheep. Only the sheep run away. I stay, help, and do the best i can and if i die so doing - so be it. As a very long-time resident of Hollywood, as a preparedness oriented human - I've spent a good deal of time not only actually being prepared but thinking (fantasizing, if you will) about scenarios that require preparedness. Indeed I've voiced the very question to many: "In what scenario would you actually bug out?" Frankly, I've yet to hear a credible answer that results in any realistic survival or, more importantly, that even credits leaving at all. One possible, realistic scenario is a total grid collapse followed by a society breakdown and total WROL fail - in an urban environment with a lot of people (or perhaps some sort of awful pandemic, ala every Hollywood script written in the last 10 years). But really - if that is so, then isn't it so everywhere else? Where are you going? (and why are you abandoning your friends and also perhaps other family who, no doubt, live in the area you're bugging out of). And, any informed person knows, such events are forecast to last "many months, to many years." So leaving your home where, even the woefully unprepared are de facto infinitely more prepared to survive such events, is short sighted in my view. There is going to be risk no matter what you do - risk is inherent in such situations and we can all agree, there is no perfect choice. You may stay, and eventually die where having left, you may have ultimately lived longer (although is picking meat off rat bones really living?). But if you leave immediately, i believe in the near term - you have elevated the possibility of death significantly in almost scenario imaginable. I could go on for pages, debunking the notion of why hurricanes, earthquakes, grid down, etc, do not = GTFO. imho. When i find out that it's happened even once in all of modern human history (a real, credible story of someone bugging out from a disaster - that made sense) then maybe i'll change my tune. It's your "hunter-gatherer" genes talking. That's not us anymore - and it never will be again. We will either make the successful leap from our current state into a galaxy-spanning civilization, or we'll all die in a fiery ball of scorched earth self-destruction. There is no in between. PS: most of my personal preparedness, besides the sort of obvious, lies in ways to make clean water, an extensive, expensive med kit(s), and cheap, stored long term food.

Smart video. Something to consider is the standard for fitness. 1) Your bug out kit should be light enough to carry or drag for 20 miles in 6 hours or less, if not, it's too heavy. 2) You should have enough energy left to set up camp and do camp chores. 3) If in a group, be able to stand watch. If you can't do all 3, then you have work to do. This is survival, and it sucks.

Another point and possibility to think of for choosing to bug out over bugging in, is as Nutn said, you're leaving a lot behind at your property. If you're planning to return home after your unneeded bug out, you might come back home to a ransacked and looted home. All those supplies, gone. And there's also the possibility that you might come home to find other people... possibly armed people, squatting in your home that you left behind. Now you have a difficult decision to make. Fight to regain your property. Or cut some large losses and leave it behind for them to keep.

Hey Nutn. Thanks for doing this. Last year we had to bug out and were gone for 14days during the tubs fire storm (google it if you don’t know) had 10min to get out of the house which is a lot more then most people had. I had my family of 5, 2 big German shepherds and surprise...my cat all in my f-250. I had worked hard on my supply’s and kit over the years and so much of it went right out the window in the heat of the moment. I had time for some guns, paper work (stuff u don’t think about. took the whole damn file cabinet), dirty laundry hampers and what we ended up needed the most was water and gas. We were separated from help and the rest of our family by fire surrounded in a valley. It’s a long story and I learned a lot and it was very different then I could have ever imagined. If you ever wanna hear the story let me know. Long story short. Gas and water were the most important in the moment. Keep ur tank full and have a good 4x4. Saved our life’s.

And FYI G19 is the only gun I kept on me. And I did need it once but all ended up without anyone getting hurt. But remember how important I said gas is. And when there isn’t any how far people will go to get it.

Nutn, just want to take a few minutes to thank you for yet another great foundational video. I am not in a position to be a patreon patron right now but hope to be able to in the near future. I have been here since around 2008 as a sub and look to your videos as a counter point to my own experiences. I too am a “Don’t hasten the day” individual. My philosophy is much like yours in that I plan for the worst and hope for the best and try to live everyday as if it were my last. Thank you for your service to our country and for all the hard work you put in here for your viewers and more so for your family. They may not realize it now, but when you are gone to your reward they will always have these videos and the memories and life lessons you have imparted to them and to all of us here on your channel. I also would like to thank your family for sharing you with all of us here. The sacrifices they have made not just for this but for your service while on deployments and the moves you have all had to make as a military family, for your different assignments. Thank you again for this video and please do post the rest as your time allows here for those of us who maybe can’t yet afford to contribute monetarily but would love to be able to.
