In my experience, hot dogs are rarely good at chain hamburger restaurants. One of the rare exceptions is Freddy’s, a burger/frozen custard chain based in Kansas, but with 2 locations in New Jersey and a few in suburban Philadelphia. They serve Vienna Beef hot dogs on large toasted buttered buns, which are excellent. Aside from Freddy’s, I’ve found that the best places for hot dogs are the “mom and pop” local places.

I do like the chili cheese dogs at Sonic. Weinerschnitzel too, but I guess theirs is in the name, they're a hot dog chain anyway lol. Sonic though, for being more of a burger/sandwich place, I think they're really good hot dogs for a chain.

Best hotdogs are Frankie's. For my wife's first baby shower we rented their food truck. I had over a half dozen dogs and a burger. 8 and a half years later and I'm still talking about it.

There's a place in upstate NY called New Way Lunch. They are literally the definition of a 'greasy spoon, hole in the wall' restaurant. You'd think that by the clientele, that the food would be an exercise in absolute misery. Their hot dogs, in fact, earned the nickname 'dirt sticks'. However, one taste, and you'd understand why these 'dirt sticks' were once shipped world wide. Apparently, the old owner sold off the business to someone that didn't know how to KEEP the customers he had, and opened a larger restaurant, but lost out on the original (it had been in business for 27 years prior to being sold), and the mystique of the 'dirt stick' was forever lost.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidaze , Sir Drops! I have to say I've been to both the Wallingford and the Naugatuck Duchess spots multiple times but I have never had their hotdogs. I usually hit them up for their breakfast sandwiches which are always bangin'. Sorry to hear they fall shot in this area. Thanks for the heads up.
