Man, I grew up going to Jimmies with my family once a month on Sundays when I was little. It was phenomenal and they had their own house tartar sauce which I never found a better tasting sauce. I know the original owners retired and let their son take it over and I know when that happened it went down slightly but not enough to make it the worst rated. To hear and see it as the worst-rated now blows my mind. How the mighty have fallen.

Well when you pay for food at a restaurant you do expect it to be seasoned nicely. If you're solely eating said meal just for fuel and not enjoyment you wouldn't be ordering expensive seafood would you? You're being far to kind. Paying for a meal out (especially expensive meals like seafood) you should 100% expect it to be seasoned to perfection. That's not to much to ask from a restaurant.

@@astralmindny9055 I agree. When it's fresh and cooked beautifully it really doesn't need much at all. Unfortunately it's hard to find perfectly cooked seafood (in my area at least). I can cook it much better at home so that's just what I do lately. Nothing worse than ordering expensive shell fish and getting chewy rubbery and/or not so fresh (pre frozen & thawed) meat. Icky

Worked at that place for years.. he was spot on with the lobster roll. It’s made from lobster and imitation crab meat soaked in butter.. The fries are cheap low grade potatoes and the shrimp Cocktail is stored in the cooler in a tin with lemon and water until it’s used up and that can sit 1-2 weeks at a time. The corn chowder is also made with the imitation crab meat that’s used in the lobster roll as well. The seafood combo would be the only thing that’s edible being filet and Clams strips get daily delivery but also frozen.

I just told my daughters how awful the food was when I went to Jimmies recently, I was so disappointed! I have always ordered the fried scallops & they used to taste so fresh & juicy, what I was given had a different breading which tasted horrible, it did not taste fresh, was not plump or juicy! I may have missed it but how much for that shrimp cocktail with only 4 little shrimp? Shrimp cocktail is usually served with quite large shrimp especially if you're only getting 4 of them. Plus when you took a bite they sounded hard, chewy and, rubbery. Shrimp can very easily and quickly be overcooked thus the rubbery texture. Such a shame to serve that.

Jimmie’s used to be the spot back in the day, as Daym mentioned. Their lobster roles were the best. I ventured back some years ago and was disappointed with the food. I recognized what you said about the cocktail shrimp taste. Often times restaurants will put shrimp in water with baking soda to kill any bacteria that may have started to form and smell. When they don't rinse them well.....YOU CAN TASTE IT! Just like what you described!!!

A little tip going forward...dip a little tartar with the fork first then stab your fish piece with it! Not being picky just easier than flopping the fish into the little cup of sauce.
