Chris, I love this series and hold deep admiration for the work you have done. Thank you for raising the public lens on how the meat industry functions!

I am writing to Greenpeace and Sierra Club, both of which I support financially, and I'm telling them I want to see Animal Agriculture on their websites or I withdraw my support. I have been a consumer of free range animal products, but no more. If I can't change my ways, I may as well go hide in a hole somewhere. I can do better.

+not2tees I trust neither of these organizations as I've heard over the years that both receive donations from the industries they claim to oppose. These corporations know that opposition groups will spring up. To lessen the impact of their actions, and to keep the public ignorant, they need to infiltrate and/or control the opposition. Let environmental groups blow off some steam, but keep them from harming the industry.

There is an absolute imperative, to immediately reduce meat product consumption. With the end goal being consumption at less than 5% - all of which must be hyper-locally sourced, ethically raised, and of an animal that possessed a natural life #StillSanders

It's too bad that where I live, a vegaterian diet, let alone a vegan diet, is financially hard to maintain for people on a limited budget. :(
@ChickenYale8 жыл бұрын
Really? Rice beans and potatoes are among the cheapest foods in the world. You're probably talking about all the branded processed vegan foods.
@Lexcoaster8 жыл бұрын
Perhaps, but not where I live, which is one of the wealthiest countries in the world. Rice beans and potatoes alone do not make for a varied diet.
@paulspring1058 жыл бұрын
Why do you say this. Have you bothered to Google the health benefits of rice, beans, potatoes, fruits nuts and vegetables? I bet not.
@Lexcoaster8 жыл бұрын
Well, that's your assumption. And it's wrong.
@ChickenYale8 жыл бұрын
Lexcoaster of course just rice beans and potato isn't a varied diet. Fruits vegetables nuts/seeds grains and legumes have all the essential nutrients we need. Where do you think a cow gets her protein from?

I honestly doubt a vegan diet will be easy to spread about. Given the...extreme struggles it entails. I' would say increase the focus on developing vat grown meat, given thats much less wasteful and less destructive on the environment.

I have been a happy, healthy lacto-picso-vegetarian for a long time now. (That's a term I made up for a vegetarian who does not abjure milk products or fish.) My reasons for adopting this diet were that I feel better when I eat this way, and my love of animals. People tell me that if I truly cared about the environment I would give up milk and cheese and go vegan, but honestly, I cannot seem to get enough protein on a purely vegan diet, and there are reasons not to consume too much soy (tofu, soy "milk," etc.).
@paulspring1058 жыл бұрын
All myths, my friend. Soy is protective agains prostate. breast and ovarian cancer. One can easily get enough protein on a vegan diet. Americans eat way more protein than is healthy.
@LendallPitts8 жыл бұрын
Paul Spring What about tofu (soy) and Alzheimer's. Not a myth.
@paulspring1058 жыл бұрын
There are numerous proven health benefits of soy and proven negative impacts of dairy and eggs. The protein myth has been debunked so many times (Look at the increasing numbers of vegan body builders out there) that I'm surprised you hold onto it other than you are addicted to the flavor and fat- I loved cheese too. The soy-Alzheimers connection is only a "hypothesis" from one statistical study that INDUSTRIALIZED and PROCESSED soy products MAY impact cognition. . ( Neglected what other chemicals populations with high processed soy intake may also be eating.)Other studies show just the opposite. Pick your favorite study. Bottom line - if soy scares you, don't eat it. But don't try to claim that eating animal products is compassionate, good for you or for the environment.

we do NOT have an overpopulation problem. we DO have a resource MANAGEMENT problem in that the world's resources are HORDED by few individuals at the top who claim they OWN it all!

It's the WAY livestock is raised, not the amount of animals or the fact we eat them. In fact, very paradoxically, we will need livestock to restore our depleted soils. See Alan Savory's TED talk on this subject. It is sensible to eat way less meat, but they have a place in the diet so don't let stupid industrial ag practices throw you off. Buy local, rotationally grazed and grass fed beef, as a limeted part of your diet or as part of your family and community diet, and you are actually helping the planet in the long haul. Ironic considering this video but nonetheless true.
