First person section is very impressive. Maybe there are other examples of that on nes but I've never seen that technique before. The center marking updating at 60fps while the "geometry" updating only when necessary, while able to slide left to right at 60. It just about convinces. Looking at it again the track might be more like an animation file than polygons

It's a genuinely different take - I can only think of one other racing game which had that side on view (Martech's The Fury released a few years prior). It's a shame Chris isn't still around to talk about why it was canned - particularly as it's so different to the other versions Mindscape published (not just talking about the released NES game, but the other machines…)

@@Arjay82 I mean, isn't that already obvious for any prototype of any game? It was likely upon play-testing, these placeholders turned off the executives behind the projects to have it canceled and reassigned in the first place. In an era when companies could afford to cancel NES games practically on a whim, under Nintendo of America's five-per-publisher policy in the late 1980s no less, making good first impressions while producing games mattered all the more so then. Publishers weren't just competing with Nintendo's own games or even with other publishers, they had to be selective of their own games to produce, manufacture, and put onto store shelves. Throw in a licensed property into the mix, in a post-E.T Atari world, and you have to answer to IP holders and their interests too.

@@OKeijiDragon lol, nothing wrong with the music. The issue would have been how lame it is. The 3d effect is nothing special, I didn't even see other cars. Then for some reason you race 2d like micromachines on a multiple mile long straight track. There was nothing special there. Neither racing style was appealing as they were. The current prototype didn't offer a race track style racing game that was appealing.

I can see why that was not released. That game looks and sounds like a mid 80's game done by someone with fresh ideas but not the knowledge of how to get the most out of the NES in just about every way. Definitely not up to par with most of what was being released on the NES in 1990.
@_PatrickO4 жыл бұрын
The music was perfectly fine, but ultimately is meaningless as that is easily changed. The issue is that he demoed two different racing styles. The 3d one doesn't work the way it was done and the 2d one is lame.

Umm ... I think you should be more understanding of this game , realise that there wasnt so many space like now , this is all the developers got to do magic , and with the velocity thing you say , maybe is because of the space idk .
