Yea the banks on Scioto have definitely been cut out and steeper over the years from all the high water makes bank fishing hard unless u can find a decent sandbar
@BobBob-er1db6 ай бұрын
How far are u from Ohio river?
@Chad-z9y7 ай бұрын
It's cool the scioto river starts up in northwest Ohio as a little drainage creek and winds and turns south to Columbus, nice video
@FirstCastAngling7 ай бұрын
Yea this river is a lot bigger down this area a lot more bends to

Somehow I just found your channel today and subscribed immediately I have to support a local southern ohio guy. Especially one that loves to catfish, I’m in Highland county outside of Hillsboro. I’m definitely gonna share your channel with all my friends and family and get your channel out there for others to enjoy

I fish the Ohio River in my boat most of the time. Wish I could get it up the Scioto , I used to fish a deep bend between Piketon and Lucasville on the 23 side

Northwest Ohio guy here man. I definitely wanna give Scioto a shot. Never catch flatheads in the daytime around these parts. Good job!

Hmmm, I didn’t know there were Blues in the Scioto, knew there is good flatheads in it, fished a couple of different spots down near Lucasville. Anyhow, good deal bud 🤙🏻✌🏻
@FirstCastAngling7 ай бұрын
Yea there’s a lot more bluecats from piketon and down all the way to the Ohio river that’s where a lot of em come from is the Ohio a lot deeper holes down this area to bluecats like the deeper holes and the current
@hensleyshobbies-doug77617 ай бұрын
@@FirstCastAngling - yeah I forgot that the Scioto empties into the Ohio, I got the Scioto and Great Miami River mixed up for a minute
@FirstCastAngling7 ай бұрын
Yea the confluence is down in Portsmouth Ohio I guess everyone has been telling me they don’t catch blues up north not like down here which farthest north I fished the Scioto is Chillicothe there’s some nice spots up in that area if u can get to them
@hensleyshobbies-doug77617 ай бұрын
@@FirstCastAngling - yeah that’s where I fished the Scioto at a couple of different spots, on Rt. 104 in Lucasville, just outside of Portsmouth. I guess that’s why I never thought there was blues in it , never thought about it not being far from the Ohio river, but all I ever really caught was flatheads, well other than the normal channels, drum, etc. But right there on 104 it runs kinda parallel with the river, except for some river bends, and that’s where I fished, near those, the biggest Flathead I caught was around 35 lbs, caught several 30’s and then quite a few between 4-5 lb up to 20, back then I used nothing but livebait unless I cut up a bluegill, chub, or something. And like the Great Miami River the flatheads in the Scioto love the Green sunfish, bullheads, small channels, I think it’s because they stay livelier on a hook longer than anything else, course that’s just my opinion. Hell I haven’t done any river fishing, or fishing in general since the early 2000’s, been a long time but I’m not really able to do all that anymore.

@hensleyshobbies-doug7761 yea my biggest fish out of the Scioto was a 45Ib blue actually I caught it 2yrs ago up around piketon and I’ve caught some 20 plus pound flatheads over the years I’ve always heard people say there 50 to 70 pounders in the scioto never caught any but I believe it cause down in this area there’s a lot deeper holes and more bends in the river with log jams and brush all up in em and here lately for me bluegills have been fire bait for the flatheads in the scioto I have caught one this year on goldfish now last year I was catching them right and left on golds but of course I wasn’t into KZbin at all then but I’m glad to be now and show the world this river and my techniques and tips on catching these catfish

I may have already ask you this in another video I can’t remember. lol I fish the Scioto in Circleville Ohio. Where about are you fishing the Scioto? Not looking for your honey hole lol just town maybe. I can’t catch shit up here.
@FirstCastAngling7 ай бұрын
Your good man I fish around piketon and lucasville area but the only problem is most good places are in farmers fields and a lot of em won’t let ya in there fields to get to the spots I actually got permission from one though like 2yrs ago but other people have permission to fish it and during the summer everyone fishes it out so I’m always looking for new spots myself
@Popscatfishing7 ай бұрын
@@FirstCastAngling yeah I heard that. Where ever I do find good bank spots the fishing sucks or water is only a foot deep. I haven’t been up to Griggs Reservoir yet but wanting to. I also fish from my boat it’s a 16.5 foot Deep v and only place to put in around here is either Griggs, or Hoover, but I love bank fishing also. I hate driving an hour to either one of those just to bank fish a while. I heard down a round chilicothe was pretty good.
@FirstCastAngling7 ай бұрын
Yea ik a spot in Chillicothe that used to be pretty good easy to get to as well unless it’s private property now I used to fish it years ago but it’s over by a park and it’s a boat ramp into the river big open spots and pretty deep there’s 2 big channels that run around a island and yea man a boat makes everything so much easier I got some buddies that kayak the river when the water is low and they catch nice flatheads all the time
