I wish this was ported to consoles but I honestly cannot blame SEGA for not doing so since they need a reason for people to keep going at the arcades. After all, they still are ''the kings of the arcades''.

I very much doubt it I'm afraid. Up until only a few weeks ago, you could still buy the original game on 360 and it's only just been delisted. That's probably the opposite of a good sign that any future ports are on the horizon... 😬

I still maintain that Daytona Championship was reverse-engineered from Sega Racing Classic. If you look at the .exe icon it's a pic of SRC and to my mind it would explain why the "new" course layouts are just mirrors - it's essentially just a mod. I mean, why go to all this trouble with nice new scenery and assets but not make (or port) different tracks? The officially-branded-and-licenced Daytona oval is the wrong sort of fucking oval, Sega, you frustrating bastards! Glad they eventually released it with the H-shifter and sorted out the brutal wall scrape penalty though, shows they have at least a bit of awareness.

I've seen people mention that Daytona Championship was reverse engineered directly from the Model 2 original, but Sega Racing Classics probably makes more sense as it's running on newer hardware. Yeah, very glad the stick wall scrape gameplay was sorted!

@@MrThunderwing I heard a KZbinr say that it was based on DC Daytona 2001 (because of the reused music, of all things), but given the half-baked vibe of the new courses I reckon a reskin of SRC is the cheapest way they could bang this out. Should stop complaining really, given that we've all been playing it for free for years! 😇 With a few changes of the dipswitch settings to always use the original Hornet and to bump the laps back up, plus swapping out a couple of the music tracks for some choice Daytona CCE classics, it's probably as close to a definitive modern version as i'm likely to get (...if only they hadn't originally announced it as Daytona 3 and blew my mind for no reason 🙄).

I was doomscrolling Twitter in bed post-midnight, putting off going to sleep, when I saw that it had been leaked. Immediately leapt out, dashed straight to my PC and downloaded it twice just in case Sega took it down - which they didn't for ages, the jokers. Was well worth being knackered at work the next day though - free new Daytona!

I'd suggest looking up a tutorial on KZbin or with Google to get an idea of how Teknoparrot works and how to find games. The process of running it isn't difficult, but it's not really something you can talk someone through in a KZbin comment.

The default Laps setup on this game is blasphemy! Awful idea. MrThunderWing, can you change the laps amount to the original numbers (Beginner 8 laps, Medium 4 laps, Expert 2 laps) in the menu? I don't remember if it allows you or not.

You can, it's something you can change in one of the games ini files (can't recall which). From what I recall when I tried it (in the original version of Championship) ages ago, it's not an option that lets you set the number of laps for each course individually, it's an option you change that changes the laps in all the stages, so I was able to change the Expert Course to 2 laps, but then it altered the Beginner and the Advanced to a higher number than the default settings of the original Model 2 game.

Yeah, don't know why the game defaults to less laps than the Model 2 original. I did figure out how to change it in the previous version, but I can't remember what I did now...
