Daytona USA Championship Circuit Edition Review - Sega Saturn

Yes. That's right. MORE racing action for the Saturn! I swear the console is just overloaded with racing games!! To be honest, I had to do this to follow on from the original Daytona review last week!

Back in the day, these were awesome.....hard to play today when you can just jump on RCPS3, Modeler or Teknoparrot and play pretty much arcade perfect versions....but I guess if you want a bit of nostalgia feels, would be cool to break these out every so often.

I played through this last night, but i used the Japanese version. It is terrible, the night before i spent a few hours on the original, and it still plays a mile better than this junk. The cars have an issue where they look very small when you're in bonnet view and get close to them. The draw distance is obviously better, but it is still pretty ordinary. The handling is anything but Daytona. It is all wrong, even on the Japan version with the original car. What you said about the high grip cars is pretty close, they seem to spin far too easily and it is hard to stop the slides. The modes are nothing new except for the 2 player split screen, the Japan version has 2 player link up which would be even better if the game was actually Daytona. On 2 player split screen the draw in is WORSE than the original. All the other modes were in the original, holding start on the track select gave mirror mode, and holding start on the car select gave time attack. The original game had the same deal with multiple cars and the two horses. The thing about the original is that if you set up the wheel with gears mapped to buttons so you can do the 4-2-4 and 4-1-3-4 etc you can use the red and yellow car and it handles exactly like the original arcade version. It is a bit harder to pull off, but it does indeed replicate the arcade version very well in that regard.
